Billy Oppenheimer@bpoppenheimer

What is your brain doing when you are doing absolutely nothing?

A neuroscientist wanted an answer to that question.

So she conducted the first brain-imaging study of brain activity when the brain is in a "resting state"—free of inputs/free to wander.

The results are interesting…

The neuroscientist Dr. Nancy Andreasen used a positron emission tomography (PET) scan to study brain activity when the brain is at "wakeful rest"

When you are doing absolutely nothing:

"We found activations in multiple regions of the association cortex," Dr. Andreasen wrote. "We were not [seeing] a passive silent brain during the‘resting state,’ but rather a brain that was actively connecting thoughts and experiences.”

Essentially, Dr. Andreasen demonstrated that the brain defaults to creativity.

When you are doing absolutely nothing, the brain engages in what the researchers termed "random episodic silent thought" or REST.

And during REST, the brain "uses its most human & complex parts."

Takeaway 1: Doing nothing promotes creativity.

Raymond Chandler, Neil Gaiman, Dr. Suess, George Lucas, and many other writers all have/had a similar habit.

They gave themselves two options:

a) You don’t have to write.

b) You can’t do anything else.

@neilhimself explains:

"I go down to my lovely little gazebo at the bottom of the garden, sit down, and I’m absolutely allowed not to do anything…I'm not allowed to do a crossword, read a book, phone a friend…all I’m allowed to do is absolutely nothing, or write. But writing is actually more interesting than doing nothing after a while."

Takeaway 2: REST

Resting, Dr. Andreasen wrote, “allows the association cortices of the brain to converse in a free & uncensored manner.”

This is why ideas come to us in the shower, on walks, and when daydreaming.

A favorite example of this: @Lin_Manuel

had the idea for “Hamilton” on vacation:

"I was on a pool float with a margarita in my hand and had a moment when my brain could unplug. [It was his first vacation in 7 years]. The moment my brain got a moment's rest, the best idea I've ever had in my life walked into it."

“If a plant only gets sunlight, it’s very harmful. It needs darkness too…In the darkness, it converts oxygen into carbon dioxide. We are like that too. We need periods of doing & periods of non-doing.” — Robert Pirsig

US democracy ‘a facade’ – Russian security chief

Washington was captured by corporate interests and is pushing their agenda on the world stage,Nikolay Patrushev has said

The US is not really a democracy, nor does it seek to promote democracy in its relations with other nations, contrary to Washington’s claims, senior Russian security official Nikolay Patrushev said, commenting on the upcoming ‘Summit for Democracy’ hosted by the US government.

Patrushev, who is the secretary of the Russian Security Council, described theUS economy as “dependent on corruption and lobbying connections going to the White House and Capitol Hill.”

Corporate interestshave hijacked the levers of political power in the US and use the country’s international clout to pursue their own agenda, he said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper, to be published in full later today.

Their democracy is a pretty facade for the political system, which serves to hide the neglect of the rights of ordinary Americans.

Washington pursues the same approach in the international arena, where it claims to be the champion of democracy but disregards other nations’ sovereignty, Patrushev said. He believes that this “hypocrisy” will be on display at the Summit for Democracy, which will kick off this week in Washington.

The event will be “a gathering to support a world order in which Washington wants to play the central role forever. Dissenters will be labeled ‘undemocratic states,’” he predicted. The US, which “appointed itself the dictator of the world, will harass the nations whose sovereignties and democracies were undermined,” by Washington.

The reality is that “Washington has long been a leader in violating the sovereignty of other nations, in the number of wars and conflicts it has unleashed,” the security chief said. He called the nations that support this arrangement “vassals” that are constantly “humiliated” in their abusive relationships with the US.

The international event, which is being held for the second time, is meant to promote democracy against what Washington increasingly sees as assertive “authoritarian” states. The US reportedly invited all participants of the first summit, which was held in 2021, including the administration of the self-governed Chinese island of Taiwan. NATO membersHungary and Türkiye were snubbed once again, according to Foreign Policy magazine.

Moscow mulls demanding damages for Nord Stream blasts

Russia continues to call for a thorough international investigation into the sabotage, a senior diplomat has said

Moscow may insist on compensation for the blasts that ruptured the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines last autumn, Dmitry Birichevsky, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for economic cooperation, said on Monday.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, the diplomat said that Russia did not rule out “the possibility of later raising the issue of compensatory damages over the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines,” which directly connected Russia and Germany under the Baltic Sea.

Birichevsky did not say from whom Russia would be demanding payment, nor did he specify in what form or amount it should be.

He noted that after veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh released his bombshell report last month pinning the blame on the US for the sabotage – a claim dismissed in Washington – Russia prepared a resolution urging the UN Security Council to launch an independent international investigation into the matter.

However, Birichevsky claimed that “Western countries are actively sabotaging the work on the draft resolution, claiming that the international investigation lacks ‘added value’.”

Despite this opposition, Russia would continue to push for a “comprehensive and open international investigation,” he said, stressing that Moscow’s representatives should absolutely take part in the process.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov supported a possible push for compensation. He described the claim as “justified,” arguing that the available data “indicate that… such a terrorist attack against critical infrastructure could not have been staged without the involvement of the state and intelligence services.”

In an interview on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he “fully agrees” with Hersh’s conclusions on who orchestrated the blasts. The American journalist alleged that US President Joe Biden ordered the attack because he did not like the German government’s reluctance to send more military support to Ukraine.

Western media, however, has presented another version of events. Earlier this month, the New York Times claimed, citing sources, that a “pro-Ukrainian group” may have been behind the attack on the pipelines while German media reported that a yacht allegedly used in the sabotage belonged to a Polish-based company owned by two Ukrainians.

Kremlin Press Secretary Peskov has dismissed those reports as “a coordinated hoax” meant to divert attention from the real culprits behind the blasts.

This is the reason why the EU and US refuse to allow Russia to investigate the crime scene, if it determined who is responsible those countries will have yo pay billions, and when its proven that Scholz gave the OK to destroy it, he’s out of government forever.

De-dollarization being forced on Russia – Putin

The country would have continued to use the greenback but sanctions prevent it, the Russian leader has said

Russia’s growing use of the Chinese yuan and other currencies in transactions with foreign partners shouldnot be seen as an attackon the US dollar, according to President Vladimir Putin. In a weekend interview with the Russia 24 TV channel, Putin said the decision had been forced on his country by Western sanctions.

“We would use the dollar, but they won’t allow usto do that, so how do we make payments? In a currency that is acceptable to our trading partners. The yuan is one such currency, especially since it is also used by the International Monetary Fund,” the Russian leader stated.

The numerous sanctions imposed on Moscow in response to its military operation in Ukraine include the blacklisting of a number of Russian banks and their removal from the SWIFT interbank messaging system, as well as bans on transactions with Russian financial entities and the freezing of foreign exchange reserves. Therestrictions have stripped Russiaof the ability to conduct a wide range of international transactions in dollars and euros, which has caused Moscow to lose trust in these currencies.

While Russia has been boosting the use of alternative currencies in transactions since last year, earlier this month Putin suggested that theChinese yuan should be used more widely, not only in trade with China, but also in Russia’s transactions with countries in Africa and Latin America.

Putin reiterated that Russia will continue to expand the use of currencies it considers reliable.

“Our partners are happy to agree to settle accounts in yuan with us. Oil-producing countries in the Middle East have said they also want to settle accounts in yuan. We will gradually expand its use, and expand the scope of currencies which we deem reliable. Yes, we understand there are certain advantages to the dollar today, there are certain limitations in the currencies that we use, not only the yuan, but other currencies as well. But every country is interested in strengthening its national currency, and all countries will strive to do so,” he said.

The Russian leader claimed that theUS is “cutting off the branch on which it is sitting”by limiting the use of the dollar depending on the political situation.

“There is the very fact that they froze our foreign exchange reserves. All the world’s countries, I assure you – at least those that have reserves –all came to questionhow reliable America is as a partner. And everyone has come to the conclusion [that it is] unreliable,” Putin added.

(This was Bidan (with the shadow president) and his Admin’s goal, destroy the US economy, destroy the dollar, destroy the wealth of citizens, make people beholden to the government, because China wanted to be “the reserve currency” and rule the world! It’s a replay of what the CCP did to China. This was planned a long time ago. As inept Joe is, he is not in charge. Bidan et al will be the first “useful idiots” put to death by their masters!)

Conscription may be intensified in Ukraine – Zelensky ally

Kiev may need more troops to possibly fight against Belarus, a top MP in the president’s party has said

Ukraine may need to conscript even more people into military service to potentially fight against Belarus, a key ally of President Vladimir Zelensky has told British television.

David Arakhamia, an MP who heads the faction of the president’s Servant of the People party in the Ukrainian parliament, spoke of a potential a clash with Belarus during an interview with SkyNews on Monday. He was commenting on Russia’s announcement last week that it would place tactical nuclear weapons at a facility currently being built on Belarusian soil.

“I think we are facing a real challenge to have a second front opened,” the Ukrainian lawmaker said.

That would mean a real challenge to get even more people to conscript into the army, because we willneed at least eight more brigadesto control the frontline.

However, Arakhamia downplayed his own concerns by saying that much of the border his country shares with Belarus is rough terrain dominated by swamps and forests, which makes it easier to defend. He also acknowledged that despite Kiev perceiving Belarus as “the same aggressor as Russia,”there actually was “no evidence during one year of war … of any Belarussian soldier crossing the Ukrainian border.”

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has allowed the Russian military to use his nation’s territory in its military operation against Ukraine, but repeatedly stressed that Belarusian troops were not participating in it.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the decision to place nuclear weapons in Belarus was a step prompted by the UK’s announcement that it would send depleted uranium munitions to Ukraine.

Ukraine is believed to have suffered significant casualties in the conflict with Russia, in part because Kiev has reportedly beensending untrained soldiersto the frontline as it keeps its more experienced troops behind for an expected counter-offensive.

Ukrainian military officials have already ramped up their mobilization efforts, according to various media sources. Reports have surfaced of conscription officersconducting raids at places where military-age men congregate, such as markets and even night clubs.

Some Ukrainians appear willing to risk their lives to avoid joining the military. Last week, a 23-year-old man drowned while trying to sneak into Romania across the Tisza River. This was reportedly the 14th such fatality this year alone.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian border guard service discouraged draft-dodgers from seeking asylum in the EU, noting in an interview on Monday that if the man had succeeded in his border crossing, “he would have been returned to Ukraine.”

(Brigade or Regiment:Brigades are made up of 2,000-5,000 soldiers, normally split among three to five battalions. The armoured cavalry and ranger forces of this size are called regiments or groups, not brigades. Commanders of brigades or regiments are one-star brigadier generals or colonels.)

Ray Epps' Lawyer Threatens Tucker Carlson: 'You Didn't See What You Saw on J6 Video — or Else'

Victoria Taft

The man seen urging people inside the Capitol Building on multiple videos on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 in 2021, Ray Epps, wasn’t really urging people inside the Capitol, lawyers tell Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. Instead, you’re believing your own lying eyes. And if you don’t hep-to and apologize for stating what’s on video that was captured on those days, then we’ll sue you.

So goes the gist of the letter sent to Tucker Carlson and Fox News from Epps’ new attorney.

The letter from Epps’s lawfare lawyer, formerly of Perkins Coie, to Carlson claims, “the fanciful notions that Mr. Carlson advances on his show regarding Mr. Epps’s involvement in the January 6th insurrection are demonstrably (and already proven to be) false.”

The “proof” suggesting that Epps didn’t do what he was seen doing was not provided. We’d all love to see that. The January 6 Committee’s private meeting with Epps, during which Adam Kinzinger fluffed him and granted him absolution, isn’t proof, actually. And his then-former FBI agent-attorney doesn’t absolve Epps of suspicions that he may have been a government informant of some kind on January 6, either.

This legal howler isn’t meant just for Carlson; it’s a narrative directive to a compliant media from the man who brought you Media Matters. And now David Brock’s other group,Facts First, has a stable of lawyers willing to tie people up in court for yearsin a legal war of attrition. They don’t call it lawfare for nothing.

And it’s working.

The question is, what would one have to disavow about Ray Epps to comply with the Democrats’ “shut up or we’ll sue you” demand?

For one, that Ray Epps didn’t encourage a breach of the Capitol Building the night before the Trump speech and was immediately outed as a “Fed! Fed! Fed! Fed!”

One must ignore the fact that Epps told everyone that he traveled across the country to see President Trump’s speech, but he didn’t. He later claimed he was also concerned about his son’s welfare in coming to the Capitol and thought Antifa would start something. Instead, Epps was at the West entrance to the Capitol Building grounds, seemingly starting something. He is seen on video whispering into the ear of a person who then took down barricades.

Those barricades served an important purpose; they denoted the no-go zone outside the Capitol. When Trump’s speech was over and hundreds of people went into the area, they were suddenly and officially “trespassing.” Ray Epps and the barricade removers helped that happen.

Ray Epps was included on an FBI BOLO announcement and then removed six months later.

Later, the January 6 Committee spoke to Epps and assured Americans he was an ally. So, did we not see what we saw Ray Epps do? Is there another explanation for his activities?

Why did Epps keep urging people to go inside the Capitol when he did not go inside the building himself? If this was such a moral imperative, why didn’t he do it?

There was more evidence to suggest wrongdoing by Ray Epps than many people who were arrested following January 6. Enrique Tarrio, the leader of the Proud Boys, wasn’t even in Washington, D.C., that day and was still arrested.

This week in the Proud Boy trial, we found out that an FBI informant was advising the defense lawyer’s team. The prosecution — the feds — finally told the defense at the last moment before the person was to testify. This was on top of indications that they’d destroyed evidence, but the judge just took their word for it.

There’s bad faith all around by the feds.

The man known as Baked Alaska, who is heard on video calling Epps a “fed,” told Revolver News that he’d been called by the FBI the day before he left to go to Washington. He told them he wouldn’t talk to them without a warrant. Butwhen he got to D.C., Epps followed him. “I then was weirded out by Epps and told him to go away as I walked away from him,” he wrote to the news website. “But Epps kept following me around!!”

His attorney thinks Epps might have been a plant for the feds.

My attorney thinks it’s possible Epps was monitoring me via the feds.” He then says “Epps showed up in a previous video I streamed at the Phoenix Stop the Steal event, walked by, and said something which I don’t remember the interaction at all.”

But the letter sent to Carlson et. al. demanded that Carlson in effect deny what’s in the video and stop asking if Epps is a fed. If he doesn’t, they’ll sue Carlson and Fox News for defamation and invasion of privacy.

Here’s what Carlson said about Epps. Watch the latest video at foxnews.

Tucker should announce on his show he wants testimony from anyone that saw Ray Epps telling people to “go into the capitol”, including any videos taken of Epps those days before J6.If Teter and others plan to sue everyone that says that Epps was involved, they will have to sue potentially 100s or even more eyewitnesses, that saw and or filmed Epps.

This event will never be memory holed
