I have a friend that drove trucks for Standard Oil (iirc).
Remember the gas shortages in the '70s?
During that time he was instructed to take oil and dump it down mine shafts because investigators were en route to inspect holding tank levels.
We have plenty of oil in the U.S. for our needs.
