>A shocking number of train derailments take place in the United States every year: an average of 1,705, or 54,570 over the span of 1990 to 2021
the reason is that when financially strapped railroad companies asked for a half-billion dollars to repair dangerously decrepit tracks,
uniparty congresspersons loudly protested against the bill, saying it would be immoral to spend taxpayer money to benefit a private industry. in the years that followed, congress authorized HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS to expand the nation's interstate highway system, which is a direct subsidy of the private trucking busineses, and indirectly, a subsidy of oil companies.
WHY? because trains move 460 ton-miles of cargo on ONE GALLON of diesel. trucks average less than 75 ton-miles per gallon.
