APPARENT JUVENILE SUCIDE ON SCHOOL CAMPUS
Olivehurst, Ca. – Around 5:40 this morning, a report of a runaway juvenile was made to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department which prompted an area search by multiple deputies. While they were searching, dispatch received a call at 6:54 a.m. from a staff member at Lindhurst High School saying they could see a person hanging from the second story of a school building.
Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased 14-year-old from an apparent suicide and quickly identified her as the runaway who was also a student at Lindhurst High School. This is still an active investigation with detectives reviewing school surveillance and speaking with those close to the deceased. Additional details may be released as they become available.
“I know I can speak for our entire Department when I say we are incredibly heartbroken from this tragedy,” says Sheriff Wendell Anderson. “This will undoubtedly impact our community and I urge anyone suffering with suicidal thoughts to seek help immediately.”
The school district has released a statement that Lindhurst High School classes are cancelled today and tomorrow, however the campus wellness center is open and staffed with grief counselors for anyone in need of emotional support.
