Prominent Pro-Kremlin Blogger Killed In St. Petersburg Cafe Bombing, 15 Injured

Russian state media is reporting that prominent pro-Kremlin blogger and war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky has been killed in blast at a St. Petersburg cafe, which wounded at least six others. The number of injured soon climbed to 15 as emergency services flooded the scene.

Tass news was the first to report the explosion, after which multiple videos purporting to show the moment of the blast began circulating on social media. The location has been identified as the 'Street Bar' café in the historical city center on the Neva River bank, just across from the well-known Admiralty building.

While the cause of the blast is still being investigated, initial reports point to an improvised explosive device having been planted inside the cafe.

Tatarsky was holding some kind of public event there, and given he's a controversial figure, he appears to have been the target of the bombing. According to details in RT News:

A military correspondent and blogger, Vladlen Tatarsky (real name Maksim Fomin), was allegedly killed in the incident, RIA Novosti reported, citing emergency services.

Tatarsky joined the Donbass militias back in 2014 in the wake of the Maidan coup in Kiev. He has since become known in Russia as a blogger and a correspondent reporting on the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Tatarsky also authored several books.

According to Readovka news outlet, the man was holding a recital at the café that was rocked by the blast.

Goodbye Privacy: EU Pushing To Criminalize Use Of Physical Cash

As central banks assert control while making way for their dystopian Central Bank Digital Currencies, governments are moved to criminalize the use of cash.

The European Union is in danger of “criminalising” the use of physical cash with its new anti-money laundering laws, an MEP has warned.

Dr Gunnar Beck, a representative for the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has warned that the EU appears to be pushing for the “criminalisation” of the use of physical cash with its new anti-money laundering (AML) laws.

Politicians in Brussels have long been pondering an upper legal limit on the value of cash transactions within the bloc, with lawmakers detailing plans to ban Europeans from spending over €10,000 in physical tender as part of a single transaction.

The European Parliament however has now voted for such a proposed limit to be dropped down to as little as €7,000 as part of efforts to clamp down on money laundering and tax dodging within the bloc, with officials also voting to see cryptocurrency transactions paying for goods and services that are valued over €1,000 to be banned.

Many within the parliament appear to be justifying the decisions as being an important step in curtailing criminality within Europe, though Dr Beck warns that the limits on cash payments now appear to have gone too far.

In a statement to Breitbart Europe, Beck emphasised that while the AfD welcomed additional efforts to tackle money laundering and terrorist financing, it rejected the parliament’s call for cash transactions to be curtailed.

“While we should focus on money laundering by organized crime and Islamist terrorists, the EU chooses to tighten its surveillance of German savers and pensioners transactions,” Dr Beck remarked. “This is a mistake.”

He went on to claim that the AfD were now the “only party defending cash freedom” in Germany, with the members of other supposedly right-leaning parties from the country allegedly voting in favour of the cash restrictions, despite criticising the implementation of similar measures at home.

The populist representative also expressed concern about the nature of the measures Brussels is looking to pass, with the fact that Eurocrats have reportedly decided to opt “for a regulation instead of a directive” meaning that individual nation-states will not be able to avoid having to implement the anti-cash reforms, even if they want to protect the use of physical legal tender within their own countries.

Meta Announces New Advances in AI Technology, Featuring Robots That Learn From Interaction With Humans

Meta Inc. has announced new developments in AI technology. According to a statement, the company has facilitated new advancements for robots to learn through direct interactions with real-world humans.

The advancements include the performing of “challenging sensorimotor skills.”

The company made the statement in a press release on March 31. In it, the company specified that the new approach involves “training a general-purpose visual representation model (an artificial visual cortex) from a large number of egocentric videos.”

The videos originate from Meta’s open-source dataset. It depicts people engaging in daily routine activities, including grocery shopping and preparing a meal.

Part of the approach involves the training of robots through the development an artificial visual cortex. This would be created by Meta’s Facebook AI Research team (FAIR), who are working to recreate the region of the human brain that converts vision to movement.

In the dataset known as Ego4D, the robots will learn a vast variety of tasks from cooking to sports, cleaning, and craft work. The dataset consists of several thousands of hours of wearable camera video, featuring people taking part in the research, engaging in daily activities which the robots aim to replicate.

“To study the effect of pre-training data scale and diversity, we combine over 4,000 hours of egocentric videos from 7 different sources (over 5.6 [million] images) and ImageNet to train different-sized vision transformers using Masked Auto-Encoding (MAE) on slices of this data,” according to Meta.

The company added in the press release, that its research team has devised a visual foundation model known as “CortexBench.” It features 17 different sensorimotor tasks in simulation, “spanning locomotion, navigation, and dexterous and mobile manipulation.”

“The visual environments span from flat infinite planes to tabletop settings to photorealistic 3D scans of real-world indoor spaces,” the company says.

“Although prior work has focused on a small set of robotic tasks, a visual cortex for embodied AI should work well for a diverse set of sensorimotor tasks in diverse environments across diverse embodiments,” the company added.

One Year Later, Still No Updates Regarding Five Late Term Aborted Babies Found In DC, Advocates Say

March 25 was the first anniversary of the discovery of 115 aborted babies in a toxic waste bin in Washington D.C., five of which were late-term but police have given no updates to the investigation since April 2022, according to pro-life advocates.

When questioned by Republican Rep. Anna Luna of Florida during a House Oversight hearing on Wednesday, members of the D.C. council said they did not know if an investigation was taking place.

As they proceeded to empty the box of the 110 small babies all of our heart’s dropped when we discovered five larger buckets with five full-term babies,” Mark Story, a photojournalist, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

This week was the first anniversary of the discovery of over 100 aborted babies in Washington D.C., five of which were reported to be potential infanticides but police have given almost no information regarding the status of the investigation, according to pro-life advocates.

On March 25, 2022, 115 bodies of aborted babies were found in toxic waste containers from the Washington Surgi-Center in Washington, D.C. by Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), five of them appeared to be late-stage, and looked to have been potentially left to die after a failed abortion attempt, according to Live Action. The bodies were turned over to the police but despite multiple calls for investigation into the clinic and circumstances surrounding the abortions, the city has failed to take any action according to several pro-life advocates that spoke with the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“The horrific wounds on the bodies of these innocent children—some who were nearly full-term, and all may have been able to survive outside the womb—indicate destructive violations of federal law,” Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We demand justice for these children who deserved life and were not protected against these brutal actions. I urge the pro-life majority in the House of Representatives to hold a full investigation on this matter as we demand Justice for the Five.”

Emily Osmet, vice president of communications at Susan B. Anthony pro-Life America, told the DCNF that the lack of concern surrounding the case was incredibly frustrating.

“Why do we have no answers on this? We have no autopsies [and] we have no data,” Osmet said. “Thankfully, yesterday in a congressional hearing, Representative Luna grilled the D.C. authorities on where the investigation stands, but they couldn’t even answer; they had no answer for her.”

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida broke down in tears during the House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday and demanded that the bodies of the five larger babies be autopsied by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine if they were left to die after a failed abortion attempt at the Washington Surgi-Center.

D.C. police initially said they were looking into the situation immediately after the bodies were reported, according to CNN, but have not provided any updates since early April 2022. When questioned by Luna, members of the D.C. council said they did not know if an investigation was taking place.

Calls for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are “pure cynicism” a Kyiv government official claimed Saturday.

Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, has lashed out at suggestions that his country should engage in negotiations with Russia after a number of politicians and trade union officials called for talks to be sought.

Spearheaded by historian Peter Brandt, son of former Chancellor Willy Brandt, numerous officials within the ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD) have called on sitting Chancellor Olaf Scholz to help formulate a peace plan for Ukraine and Russia alongside France, Brazil, China, India and Indonesia.

Brandt’s call for peace has been ridiculed by Makeiev, who attacked any calls for a ceasefire between the warring nations as being a cynical attempt to save Putin from being held accountable for his actions.

“This peace appeal is not an April Fool’s joke,” Die Welt reports the ambassador as saying. “This is pure cynicism towards the numerous victims of Russian aggression.”

He went on to accuse the push for peace negotiations as an attempt to “cover up the crimes of Russia” and its ruling regime, adding that the only way peace could be established is with a full Russian withdrawal.

France Burns: Over 1,000 Police and Firefighters Left Injured amid Anti-Macron Riots

Over 1,000 law enforcement officers and firefighters have been left injured while combatting rioting in France, the country’s interior minister claimed Saturday.

Gérald Darmanin, the Minister for the Interior for Emmanuel Macron’s government in France, outlined the damage caused by ongoing civil unrest plaguing the country.

The senior official also lashed out at the French far-left and its leader, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, openly blaming them for the violent disorder originally prompted by pension reforms implemented by the Macron government.

Speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche, Darmanin expressed fury at the “extreme left” in the country, saying their violence had resulted in hundreds of injuries and arson attacks since mid-March.

“Since March 16, there have been 1,093 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters injured, 2,579 arson attacks, 316 attacks on public buildings and not a word from the far left to condemn this violence,” he said.

Darmanin went on to accuse the country’s militant left wing of “intellectual terrorism” by accusing the police of violently attacking certain protesters, arguing that this is a complete reversal of what is actually happening on the ground.

“When the police use legitimate force, it can obviously be strong, but it is to respond to extremely violent attacks by professional thugs, who are there to destroy property, or, worse, to “kill cops”,” the minister claimed, adding that the vast majority of police in the country do their jobs with “honour”, and that the few who fail to uphold professional standards never escape punishment.

“The freedom to demonstrate is a fundamental right. Almost all of the demonstrations took place without any incident,” he insisted. “But the freedom to demonstrate is not the freedom to demonstrate violently.”

“When violence, thugs and the ultra-left get involved, then it is the duty of law enforcement to say stop.”

U.S. to deliver 800 Hellfire missiles to Poland

The US Congress has cleared the sale of 800 Hellfire missiles to Poland, the Polish defence minister has announced, amid Russia’s more than 13-month-long war in neighbouring Ukraine.

“The US Congress has approved the purchase by Poland of 800 Hellfire missiles, to be used by Polish AW149 support helicopters and ultimately by the Apache machines,” Mariusz Błaszczak said in a tweet on Saturday.

“We are starting price negotiations,” he added.

The announcement came after Błaszczak last month said that the US State Department had greenlighted the deal.

The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in mid-March that the US State Department had authorized the sale of “AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles and related equipment” to Poland for an estimated cost of USD 150 million.

According to the US State Department, Poland has requested to buy 800 AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles and four M36 Hellfire Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM).

Germany to send additional 12 billion euros in military support to Ukraine

The German government has agreed to send an additional 12 billion euros ($13 billion) worth of military support to Ukraine. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag gave the green light on March 29 for the unbudgeted expenditure. The additional funding includes 3.2 billion euros to be disbursed in 2023 and credit lines for the period between 2024 and 2032 amounting to some 8.8 billion euros. “With the money, Ukraine can directly buy armaments with the support of the German government,” three politicians representing the coalition government on the committee said in a statement.

US Jewish leaders launch group to support 'Woman Life Freedom' in Iran

Prominent US Jewish figures announced a bipartisan nonprofit organization, The Jewish Committee to Support ‘Woman Life Freedom’ in Iran (JCWLF).

Founding Members of the JCWLF Steering Group include former US senators Norm Coleman and Joe Lieberman; Conference of Presidents CEO William Daroff; former member of Congress and CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Ted Deutch; Dennis Ross; Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) CEO Eric Fingerhut and others.

“The Jewish community is putting its values to work helping the Iranian people flourish and build a safer, more tolerant world, both for themselves and all people,” Fingerhut told The Jerusalem Post. “I know the Iranian people will one day realize their dreams of greater freedom, and I hope to help them reach that day as quickly as possible."

Ambassador Ross told the Post that "women, life, freedom is the powerful slogan of those in Iran who want the most basic rights.

"They have demonstrated courage in the face of terrible brutality and they deserve to know they are not alone, their calls are heard and they are supported," he said.

What did the new organization have to say?

“The values guiding the JCWLF are reflected in the aspirations of brave Iranians who have expressed their opposition to Iran’s ruling clerics in the months since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was murdered at the hands of Tehran’s so-called morality police,” the group said in a statement.

“The JCWLF’s mission is to connect the American Jewish community with the Iranian diaspora and to support their struggle for a democratic Iran which respects the rights of its people and is at peace with the world.

“The JCWLF will be offering microgrants to individuals and organizations worldwide promoting the Iranian people’s aspirations and demands of the international community,” they added.

In a joint statement, the 19 founding members of the JCWLF Steering Group said: “We have been called by faith and by history to stand with the Iranian people risking life and limb for freedom. We see our values in their vision and know that their cause is just. The JCWLF honors their bravery and supports their commitment to building a future where every community values its people and its neighbors, and where every person’s life is filled with meaning and opportunity.”

Ross told the Post, “‘Women, life, freedom’ is the powerful slogan of those in Iran who want the most basic rights. They have demonstrated courage in the face of terrible brutality and they deserve to know they are not alone, their calls are heard and they are supported.”

Daroff said, “In Iran, the fight for ‘Women, Life and Freedom’ continues, as the country cries out against its oppressive regime. In America, we must continue to show our moral support for the brave women and men who stand up for freedom. Israeli Strikes Hit Syria’s Homs, Wound Five Service Members

A series of Israeli airstrikes hit the central Syrian governorate of Homs early on April 2, in the third such attack on the war-torn country in the last few days.

Citing a military source, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency said that Israel carried out “an aerial aggression from the direction of northwest Beirut targeting some outposts in Homs city and its countryside at 00:35 am.”

Syrian air defenses intercepted the missiles and shot down some of them, the source said, adding that the attack caused some material damage and wounded five service members.

Two Western intelligence sources told the Reuters news agency that the airstrikes targeted the T4 air base in the eastern Homs countryside, and al-Dabaa air base in the southern countryside of the governorate. According to the unnamed sources, Iranian military personnel and fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah are stationed at both bases.

A regional intelligence source also said that an underground research center where Iranian scientists are suspected of developing missile and drone capabilities was also among the targets. Reuters said it was unable to verify the authenticity of the claims.

Two waves of Israeli airstrikes hit positions in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and its outskirts on March 30 and 31, causing human and material losses.

Without referring to the recent attacks on Syria, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised speech on April 2 that Israel is “exacting a heavy price from terrorist-supporting regimes” outside of its borders.

Israel carried out hundreds of strikes on Syria over the past decade as a part of a covert military campaign known as “the war between the wars”. Tel Aviv rarely discusses the campaign. However, it says it is making efforts to prevent Iranian-backed forces, namely Hezbollah, from smuggling advanced weapons and entrenching themselves in the country.

Blinken & Lavrov Hold Rare, Tense Phone Call Over Detained WSJ Journalist

Russia's detention of US citizen and Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich has prompted a very rare phone call between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Given that Gershkovich is facing spying accusations, this makes the case significantly bigger and higher stakes than the prior long-running Britney Griner imprisonment and prisoner swap saga. Any espionage-related conviction would likely bring a prison sentence of at least 20 years, or possibly even life in prison, for the 31-year old journalist.

"Secretary Blinken conveyed the United States’ grave concern over Russia’s unacceptable detention of a U.S. citizen journalist," an official US readout of the Sunday call states. "The Secretary called for his immediate release."

The FSB security service had described that Gershkovich was caught 'illegally' gathering "classified" information on a sensitive government-linked defense company. The White House slammed the accusation and detention as "ridiculous".

Blinken had also used the opportunity of the phone call to once again demand the release of former Marine Paul Whelan. Controversially, he had been left out of the Griner and Viktor Bout prisoner swap (Bout has been dubbed the "merchant of death" given he was a global arms trafficker), which aroused considerable public anger directed at the Biden administration in the US.

As for Lavrov, he alleged the US is seeking to politicize the case of the Wall Street Journal reporter. According to statements from the Kremlin side:

"Blinken's attention was drawn to the need to respect the decisions of the Russian authorities, taken in accordance with the law and international obligations of the Russian Federation," the Russian foreign ministry said.

"It was emphasized that it is unacceptable for officials in Washington and the Western media to whip up a stir with the clear intention of giving this case a political coloring," the ministry added, saying Blinken initiated the conversation.

In the wake of the arrest, the US State Department and its embassies abroad urged all American citizens to not travel to Russia for any reason.
