Also, interestingly the 2nd quote here is at least in part why / how Jews "reject" Jesus (Jews are taught to "be ware of the false prophet" and not given a way to verify a true prophet).
Personally, I think this was intentional on the part of the existing power hierarchy to put things in the New Testament with the intent of dissuading people from following Christ.
