US behind religious crackdown in Ukraine – Moscow
Washington uses Kiev’s policies as a tool against Russia, the Foreign Ministry has said
The US is complicit in the ongoing religious crackdown in Ukraine, seeking to drive a wedge between the nation’s faithful as part of its anti-Russia foreign policy, Moscow’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry commented on the recent decision of the authorities in Kiev to place the abbot of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra – Ukraine’s most prominent Orthodox monastery – Metropolitan Pavel (secular name Pyotr Lebed) under house arrest. The senior cleric is suspected of harboring pro-Russian sentiment and inciting inter-religious hatred, which he denies.
This latest development, the statement reads, shows that Ukraine’s campaign to seize the Lavra “has come to a head.”
However, the ministry claimed that “it is no secret that [Ukrainian President Vladimir]Zelensky’s regime is not independent in its anti-church policy.”
“A split in Orthodoxy, a blow to this sphere of life, is the goal proclaimed by Washington a long time ago,” the ministry stated, adding that the US has created a “perverted mechanism of direct and indirect influence on the confessional side of Kiev politics.”
Activities in this direction are supported by theUS ambassador-at-largefor international religious freedom and the Commission on International Religious Freedom, it added.
The ongoing situation with the Lavra and other churches in Ukraine “is of completely man-made nature and is a man-made incitement of religious hatred,” the ministry claimed.
“Appointed by Washington… Ukraine’s incumbent fully understands his dependence on the US.He is pursuing an anti-Orthodox policy at the behest of the Americans who are solving anti-Russia tasks, once again using the Ukrainian administration as nothing more than a tool.”
The ministry added that Kiev’s religious policies affect not only the Orthodox faithful, pointing to reports of Islamophobia and anti-Semitism in the country.
In recent weeks, the Ukrainian authorities have conducted a massive crackdown on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which is suspected by Kiev of covertly supporting Russia, despite the fact that the church proclaimed its independence from Moscow after the start of the conflict in February 2022.
Last month, as part of the campaign against the UOC, the authorities demanded that the Lavra monks vacate the monastery, citing an alleged violation of a 2013 agreement which allowed the entity to administer the religious site. The UOC refused to comply, dismissing the order as unlawful.

Kiev behind murder of Russian military blogger – Moscow
The Ukrainian authorities planned Sunday’s bombing of a St. Petersburg café, officials have said
The blast in St. Petersburg that killed military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was orchestrated by Ukraine, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said on Monday. It described the murder as “a terrorist attack.”
Tatarsky, whose real name was Maksim Fomin, was hosting a live event with his followers in a café in the city’s historical center on Sunday when a bomb went off, killing him and wounding more than 30 others.
According to theNAK, Kiev used “individuals who collaborated with [Alexey] Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation [FBK]” to carry out the attack. Officials described suspect Darya Trepova, who was detained on Monday, as an“active supporter” of the FBK.
Navalny, an anti-corruption campaigner and opposition figure, founded the FBK in 2011. The organization was labeled by the authorities as ‘extremist’ and banned in Russia in 2021. Navalny is currently serving a prison sentence for an embezzlement conviction. He accused Russian officials of trying to poison him after suddenly falling ill on a domestic flight in 2020. The Kremlin denied any involvement in the incident.
Witnesses told Russian media that the young woman attended Tatarsky’s event and gave him a figurine as a gift shortly before the blast.
A Donbass native, Tatarsky joined the local forces that fought against Ukrainian troops in the wake of the 2014 coup in Kiev. He later built a career as a prominent blogger, covering the Russia-Ukraine conflict on his Telegram channel.
Last year, the Russian authorities claimed that Kiev was behind a car bombing near Moscow that killed journalist Darya Dugina. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky denied that his country played a role in her death.

Russia’s Interior Ministry Monday released a video on Monday showing Darya Trepova, the main suspect behind the murder of prominent military reporter Vladlen Tatarsky, speaking to security forces after her arrest. Tatarksy was killed in a blast in a St. Petersburg café the day before.
In the clip,Trepova admits that she “brought in the statuette that exploded” in the café in the city's historic center, killing the blogger, whose real name is Maksim Fomin, and injuring 32 people.
When asked whether she understood why she had been detained by law enforcement, the suspect said that it was for “being at the scene where Vladlen Tatarsky was murdered.”Trepova, 26, also said thatshe would “tell at a later date” where she had obtained the figurine from.
Trepova was arrested earlier in the day, hours after her name was included on Russia’s wanted list. According to Irina Volk, the Interior Ministry’s spokeswoman, she was detained at her rental apartment in St. Petersburg during a police operation.
Russian authorities accused Ukrainian special services of having orchestrated the blast. On Monday, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said that the “terrorist attack” was staged with the involvement of “individuals who collaborated with [Alexey] Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation,”referring to a Russian opposition figure who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for embezzlement.
The Anti-Corruption Foundation was designated as an extremist organization in Russia in 2021 and subsequently liquidated.
Commenting on the tragedy, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted thatUkraine “very well might have orchestrated” Tatarsky’s murder. “Russia is facing a terrorist regime. This is a regime that supports terrorist activities… and has been behind the killing of people for many years starting in 2014, and that’s why the special military operation is underway,” he said.

Wagner chief declares Artyomovsk ‘formally captured’
Evgeny Prigozhin dedicated the seizure of the key Donbass city’s administration to a recently slain Russian war blogger
The head of Russian private military company (PMC) Wagner, Evgeny Prigozhin, has announced a milestone achievement in the battle for the city of Artyomovsk (known in Ukraine as Bakhmut), publishing a video allegedly taken in front of the town’s administrative building on Sunday evening.
“We hoisted the Russian flag with the inscription ‘Good memory to Vladlen Tatarsky’ and the flag of PMC Wagner on top of the city administration of Bakhmut,” Prigozhin said in the clip.
Prigozhin’s announcement comes just hours after prominent Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky (real name Maksim Fomin) was killed in an apparent improvised explosive device blast in a café in St. Petersburg on Sunday afternoon.
“Legally speaking, Bakhmut is taken. The enemy is concentrated in the western districts,” the head of the PMC added.
The battle for Artyomovsk has emerged as one of the most intense and bloody engagements of the armed conflict in Ukraine, with both sides reportedly suffering significant casualties. Western officials have claimed that the city poses no strategic military value, but Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky pledged to defend it as long as possible after proclaiming the city a fortress.
Kiev’s attempts to hold on to Bakhmut,regardless of the losses, has “almost destroyed the Ukrainian army,” Prigozhin claimed earlier this week. However, Wagner fighters, who led the charge to capture the Donetsk People’s Republic city, also took “a serious beating,” he acknowledged.

Ukrainian church seized after attack on priests
The Khmelnitsky Cathedral will be handed over to the Kiev-backed Orthodox Church of Ukraine after a violent provocation on Sunday
The Holy Intercession Cathedral in the city of Khmelnitsky in western Ukraine has beenseized by supporters of the Kiev-backed Orthodox Church of Ukraine(OCU), after a man dressed in a Ukrainian military uniform staged a provocation at the Sunday service by attacking priests loyal to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
Kiev suspects the entity of covertly supporting Russia, despite the fact that the church proclaimed its independence from Moscow after the start of the conflict in February 2022.
According to the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ), no services will be held in the cathedral until Easter. Representatives of the OCU said on social media that they obtained the keys to the cathedral, and that they are currently conducting an inventory review of the property.
According to local media, the OCU commission plans to submit documents concerning thetransfer of ownership of the cathedral to the regional military administrationon Monday.

Khmelnitsky Mayor Aleksandr Simchishin later said in a Telegram post that the city authorities would seize all land from the UOC, and called for a nation-wide ban on the “Moscow FSB agency in the form of the UOC.” He alsocalled for the UOC priestsin the Khmelnitsky Cathedral to be heldcriminally liable for “beating a soldier,” and for the officers who responded to the incident to be fired.

Swiss banking giant plans mass layoffs after Credit Suisse takeover – media
UBS may eliminate more than 30,000 jobs worldwide, a newspaper writes
UBS Group AG will slash its workforce by between20% and 30%after completing its takeover of rival Credit Suisse, letting goas many as 36,000employees globally, the newspaper Sonntagszeitung has reported, citing a senior manager at UBS.
The newspaper highlighted that some 11,000 employees would be dismissed in Switzerland, although it did not provide any details about which positions would be targeted. Thetwo lenders together employed almost 125,000people worldwide at the end of 2022, about 30% of which were in Switzerland, according to the report.
Last month, the two Swiss banks announced a historic merger, with UBS agreeing to pay 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.24 billion) in stock to acquire its embattled rival in a deal underpinned by government guarantees and 100 billion francs (just over $1 billion) in liquidity assistance from Switzerland’s central bank. The government-brokered deal was aimed at shoring up public confidence in the Western financial system and averting a global crisis after the collapses of two regional banks in the US.
The banking crisis exacerbated the troubles of Credit Suisse, which had been already battling a string of scandals, legal issues, and customer outflows. On top of that, its biggest investor, Saudi National Bank, announced in March it would not be able to provide financial assistance due to regulatory and statutory limits. Credit Suisse reported a 2022 net loss of 7.3 billion francs (nearly $8 billion) and warned that it would incur another “substantial”loss in 2023 before returning to profitability in 2024.
The merger of Switzerland’s two biggest banks is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Last week, UBS announced that “in light of the new challenges and priorities facing UBS after the announcement of the acquisition” it is bringing back former CEO Sergio Ermotti. A UBS statement pointed to how Ermotti, who ran UBS for nine years from November 2011 to October 2020, had “successfully repositioned” the bank following the 2008 global financial crisis and “achieved a profound culture change within the bank.”

Every day last week, after three children and three adults were murdered by a transgender shooter at a Christian school in Nashville on Monday, Joe Biden waxed lyrical about the “joy, strength, and absolute courage [of] transgender and nonbinary Americans.”
Hard though it is to believe at a moment when discretion and sensitivity were needed, the president issued statements from the White House claiming “Transgender Americans shape our Nation’s soul.”
On Friday, four days after the massacre at Covenant Christian School, he issued a proclamation declaring March 31 as “Transgender Day of Visibility” and railed against “MAGA extremists [who] are advancing hundreds of hateful and extreme state laws that target transgender kids and their families . . . These attacks are un-American and must end.”
The White House marked the occasion with a 3,464-word “fact sheet” suggesting “conservative politicians” were driving “transgender youth” to consider suicide.
Never fear, though, President Biden is “standing up for transgender kids and their families.”
But who is standing up for Christian kids and their families?
Must they now fear for their lives because of the hysterical lie, encouraged by the president, that their loving faith is bigoted and hateful toward transgender people?
Ignoring tragedy
Who is standing up for the victims of last week’s horror?
Certainly not the media, which has decided that the real victims are the transgender community, in anticipation of some imaginary backlash from Christians.
“Fear pervades Tennessee’s trans community amid focus on Nashville shooter’s gender identity” was a typical headline from NBC.
Corporate America sang from the same hymn book.
One day after the massacre of three little kids in Nashville, Amazon sent a message to “LGBTQIA+ employees and allies” expressing “support and solidarity during this period of apprehension and uncertainty.”
Biden and his White House just kept pumping out their trans propaganda right into the weekend.
They said not one word about Christians all week, despite the fact that the Nashville shooting appears to have been a hate crime targeted at a Christian school; we can’t yet definitely assert the motive because the killer’s so-called “manifesto” is being kept from us, unlike similar documents in other massacres.
Even when the funerals began for the Nashville victims, the White House didn’t let up.
On Friday, in the middle of Biden’s orgy of trans-pandering, the first of the Nashville victims was buried. Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9, was honored for her, “unwavering faith in the goodness of others.”
“Evelyn made people feel known, seen, but never judged.”
Mourners at Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville, a couple of miles from The Covenant School, wore pink and green “in tribute to Evelyn’s light and love of color,” as her family requested.
The next day, the White House went ahead with a “White House Roundtable Affirming Transgender Kids.”
This was an opportunity for Domestic Policy Advisor Susan Rice to use children as props in a cynical political stunt aimed at demonizing Republicans in red states who have passed laws to protect kids from sex hormones and experimental gender surgery.
In doing so, the Republican legislatures and governors like Florida’s Ron DeSantis are in accord with the most up-to-date thinking in Europe.
Countries like Sweden, Finland, Belgium and England, hardly bastions of transphobia, have cracked down hard on the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery for children, after finding that the interventions have done more harm than good and are not evidence-based.
But the Biden administration wasn’t going to let such pesky concepts interfere with its virtue signaling.
On Saturday, while the White House roundtable kicked off, a different event was being held in Nashville, right next to the scene of the massacre.
There at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, the parents of 9-year-old Hallie Scruggs held a funeral for their only daughter in the sacred place where her father is pastor.
She was remembered as a “vibrant little girl who was well-loved and loved others.”…

Embattled first son Hunter Biden on Sunday popped up at the ritzy Soho gallery where his controversial artwork is on display alongside a slew of renowned abstract painters.
Biden, 53, the subject of an ongoing Republican-led probe on Capitol Hill, was all smiles as he was snapped at the Georges Berges Gallery — smugly quipping that he loved that The Post’s reporting on his art.
He even posed with the gallery owner, George Berges, outside and shook the hand of a Post photographer.
Investigators with the congressional committee have tried for months to get details on the collectors who have purchased Biden’s works, which have been valued at between $75,000 and $500,000.
William Pittard, an attorney for the Berges galley, fired back at congressional investigators last month citing “inaccuracies” in the gallery’s resistance to naming the buyers.
The “Bridging the Abstract” exhibition opening Thursday will feature Biden’s work alongside prominent artists like the late Elaine de Kooning and Helen Frankenthaler, as well as Los Angeles-based contemporary painter Todd Williamson and Japanese-born East Village painter Hisako Kobayashi.

Researcher: Twitter’s Algorithm Reveals Government Intervention Tool

A developer has discovered a U.S. government intervention option and other insights in Twitter’s recently open sourceed recommendation algorithm.
The Post Millenial reports that on Friday, Twitter released a portion of its recommendation algorithm on GitHub, a website where programmers can share and work together on open-source code. Concerns about possible government influence on the platform were raised when developer Steven Tey examined the code and found a mechanism that permits the U.S. government to alter the Twitter algorithm.
Tey revealed his research on the mechanism for intervention, saying, “When needed, the government can intervene with the Twitter algorithm. In fact, @TwitterEng (Twitter Engineering) even has a class for it – ‘GovernmentRequested.'” Tey also provided a direct link to the code on GitHub for public review.
Elon Musk, who purchased the platform for $44 billion, had announced in March last year that Twitter’s algorithm should be open source. He later stated, “Our ‘algorithm’ is overly complex & not fully understood internally. People will discover many silly things, but we’ll patch issues as soon as they’re found!”
Tey discovered that the algorithm also considers a user’s following-to-follower ratio, with page rankings being affected for users who have a high following count but a low number of followers.
In order to track and compare tweet impressions on other users, the algorithm also promotes Twitter Blue subscribers and groups users into categories like “power users,” “Democrat users,” “Republican users,” and “@elonmusk.”
Tey identified elements that could adversely affect a user’s “reputation score,” such as being blocked or muted, as well as factors that influence whether a user’s content will appear in the “For You” recommendations. Additionally, he mentioned how the algorithm and how candidates appear for users to follow are affected by the presidential elections.
Following earlier revelations from the Twitter files, a collection of reports describing internal discussions at Twitter under its previous management, this discovery of the “GovernmentRequested” intervention option is a troubling development. The documents revealed the company’s attempts at content moderation and cooperation with law enforcement, including hiring former FBI agents and working with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
The extent to which the platform may have been influenced or under the control of governments has been questioned in light of these revelations from the Twitter files. Several former FBI agents worked for Twitter, according to a batch of documents that Michael Shellenberger made public. At the time, former FBI Supervisory Special Agent Elvis Chan was the main person behind numerous censorship requests, including those pertaining to Hunter Biden’s contentious “laptop from hell.”..
