Another 4chan ‘Keyboard Commando’ Busted for Threatening Sheriff

YOU’RE GOING TO FLORIDA!

Yep, this one lives with his mother, too.

Another 4chan user has been arrested for allegedly threatening a crusading Florida sheriff—who noted that this suspect, like the last one, still lives with his mother.

Tyler Meyer, 30, was picked up on Friday in San Diego and charged with making a written threat to kill or injure. He will be extradited from California.

“See you in sunny Florida,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood posted on Facebook with a mugshot of the shaggy suspect.

His arrest came just a few days after Chitwood greeted another 4chan commenter, Richard Golden, at the airport when he was extradited from New Jersey for allegedly making similar threats.

Chitwood has become a target of what he calls “keyboard commandos” for speaking out loudly and frequently against white supremacists who have infiltrated his county.

“It’s too bad Mike Chitwood isn’t safe now that I’m planning to kill him,” Meyer allegedly wrote on a 4chan board labeled “Politically Incorrect,” according to the sheriff.

“I’m going to shoot Mike Chitwood. I’m going to kill him by shooting him to death.”

The FBI alerted Chitwood to the threat and traced it to Meyer, who eventually admitted writing it, he said. Guns and ammunition were seized from his home when the San Diego Police showed up.

ANOTHER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN ANOTHER 4CHAN DEATH THREAT AGAINST SHERIFF CHITWOOD

Another out-of-state 4chan user who posted an online threat to kill Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood has been arrested in California.

Tyler Meyer, 30 (DOB 9/9/1992), was arrested Friday by the San Diego Police Department at a home on 30th Street, where he lives with his mother.

Meyer’s anonymous post in the “Politically Incorrect” board on 4chan stated the following: “It’s too bad Mike Chitwood isn’t safe now that I’m planning to kill him. I’m going to shoot Mike Chitwood. I’m going to kill him by shooting him to death.”

The FBI flagged the threat, traced its origin, and identified and contacted Meyer, who was initially hesitant to admit posting the threat. The 30-year-old ultimately admitted writing the post after being shown an image of it.

Multiple firearms, ammunition and electronics were seized from Meyer’s home.

Meyer is charged with making a written threat to kill or injure, a second-degree felony which carries a bond of $100,000. He is in custody in San Diego pending extradition to Volusia County.

Sheriff Chitwood again thanked all the members of VSO, the FBI, State Attorney, Florida's 7th Circuit R.J. Larizza and the San Diego Police Department who worked together on the case.

The sheriff and his family have received multiple threatening or harassing messages following his condemnation of neo-Nazi hate groups and associates who have recently targeted Volusia County and other areas in Florida.

On March 13, a New Jersey man was arrested in New Jersey following a similar 4chan post. The suspect, 38-year-old Richard Golden, has since been extradited to Florida, where he was welcomed by Sheriff Chitwood. Golden remains in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail with $100,000 bond.

A man was arrested at his mother's home in New Jersey after he made online threats to murder the Volusia County Sheriff, Mike Chitwood.

The sheriff's office said the man's comments were made following Sheriff Chitwood's recent stand against a neo-Nazi hate group and antisemitism.

Investigators said 38-year-old Richard Golden made anonymous posts on a 4chan threatening to kill Sheriff Chitwood. Stating, "Just shoot Chitwood in the head and he stops being a problem. They have to find a new guy to be the problem.” Golden continued to post, "But shooting Chitwood in the head solves an immediate problem permanently. Just shoot Chitwood in the head and murder him.”

Golden's posts were flagged by Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), launching a joint investigation into identifying the anonymous user. Golden was later located and found to be living at his mother's house in Monmouth Junction, NJ.

The FBI and local law enforcement agencies in New Jersey were contacted and body cam video shows officers arresting Golden on Monday afternoon.

Golden's mother told investigators that her son stays in his room and is always on the internet. She continued to say he doesn't have a job, rarely leaves the house and is hostile toward law enforcement and the government.

“The anonymous nature of the internet may make people feel they can say anything, but if you make threats or put people in fear we will use all our resources to track you down,” South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said in his own announcement of the arrest. “Yesterday showed that being 974 miles away from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office was no distance too great for the teamwork of law enforcement.”

In a news conference on Tuesday, March 14, Sheriff Chitwood thanked the arresting law enforcement agencies and shared some words to Golden personally.

“I cannot wait to meet him when he gets off the plane,” the sheriff said, “because one of the first faces he’s going to see welcoming him to the Volusia County Jail, the happiest place on earth, is going to be me.”

The sheriff's office charged Golden with making a written threat to kill or cause injury. He was taken to Middlesex County Corrections Center to be held, pending extradition to Volusia County.
