Report: Saudis, Iranians to reopen embassies, ease travel
BEIJING (AP) — Iran’s semiofficial news agency ISNA reported Thursday that Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to reopen diplomatic missions in their respective capitals and in additional cities. There was no immediate official confirmation of the report.
As part of the reported deal, the two sides would also study the prospects of resuming flights between the two nations and facilitating the visa process for the citizens of both countries. Saudi Arabia and Iran are longtime regional rivals, but have moved toward reconciliation as part of a deal brokered by China last month.
If confirmed, the agreement would represent a new step toward reconciliation after seven years of tension. The rapprochement, which was initiated last month, lowers the chance of armed conflict between the Mideast rivals – both directly and in proxy conflicts around the region.
The initial reconciliation agreement was brokered by Beijing in March.
It represents a major diplomatic victory for the Chinese as Gulf Arab states perceive the United States slowly withdrawing from the wider Middle East. It also comes as diplomats have been trying to end a long war in Yemen, a conflict in which both Iran and Saudi Arabia are deeply entrenched.

The differing treatments of Clinton and Trump for transactions that are now nearly seven years old has reinvigorated a raging debate about whether America has drifted into a two-tier system of justice rife with seemingly double standards.
Brett Tolman, a former U.S. attorney and Senate Judiciary Committee counsel, said Wednesday the judicial system appears to be lurching toward a point of political weaponization that may have no return.
"I said earlier that we would not truly appreciate the gravity of the moment we are standing in, in terms of its historical significance," told the Just the News, Not Noise television show. "It'll be many years probably until we do. But the the reason I've said that before is we will start to see now, the political decision making at the highest levels in our in our justice system. And the weaponization is only the beginning.
"It will now be wielded without that sobriety and without that service to the law and the facts. And without the impartiality. So the Lady Justice is no longer blind. The blindfold has been taken off, and whoever wields the sword is the one who is administering justice."

Three ‘Hero’ Marines Intervene in Violent Attack at Chick-fil-A, Snap Suspect’s Weapon in Half
Three U.S. Marines prevented a potential stabbing at a Chick-fil-A location in Virginia last weekend, according to a report from police.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that two men attempted to steal another man’s phone Saturday at the fast-food outlet in North Stafford.
Department public information officer Ryan Wilbur said three Marines heard a struggle between three other males and explained how they intervened.
“On April 1st at approximately 1:41 p.m. Deputy E.E. Donkor responded to a disturbance at Chick-fil-a, located at 25 Dunn Drive,” he said. “Witnesses advised one male was approached by two others. The three got into a brief argument before a physical altercation ensued.”
Wilbur said one of the two males pulled a knife on the victim.

“Three nearby Marines quickly jumped into action and attempted to separate the parties,” Wilbur stated. “One of them broke the knife in half to prevent further harm, and the two suspects quickly fled.”
