‘Secret’ NATO war plan leak triggers Pentagon probe – NYT

Officials say they are struggling to scrub the sensitive material from the internet

A leaked trove ofclassified documents outlining American and NATO war planning in Ukrainehas sparked a US military investigation, the New York Times has reported. The briefing presentation slides, some marked “top secret,” show assessed troop strengths, timelines for arms shipments and ammunition expenditures, among other data.

The files appeared on social media earlier this week, and while the source remains unclear, the leaks haveset off alarms in the Pentagon, which has launched a probe to determine how the documents were obtained, the NYT reported on Thursday.

“We are aware of the reports of social media posts and the department is reviewing the matter,” Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh told the outlet.

Officials said they are working to have the material removed from the internet, but had not succeeded as of Thursday night.FT

One of the documents marked “top secret”provides the “Status of the Conflict as of 1 Mar.,” suggesting the slides are several weeks old. Though they do not describe any specific battle plans, the files offer a glimpse into US intelligence assessments for Russian and Ukrainian troop levels, timetables for training and equipment deliveries, weather data, as well as ammunition expenditures – including for the US-supplied HIMARS platform. The Pentagon has not previously disclosed the rate at which Ukrainian forces are using munitions for the weapon.

Some of the documents appear to havebeen altered, with multiple different versions circulating online showing wildly varying estimates for losses on both sides of the conflict.

Another file lists 12 new Ukrainian combat brigades – which are usually made up of 4,000 to 5,000 troops – noting that the US andNATO bloc are training and supplying nine of them. Of those, the document states that six would be ready by the end of March, and the remaining three by April 30.

If genuine the documents represent one of the most significant intelligence breaches since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and come as Kiev is reportedly preparing amajor counter-offensive against Russian forces. One of the documents shows two possible routes into the Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. It is unclear when the counter-attacks are set to begin, but Ukrainian Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov recently claimed that the two sides would fight a “final” and “decisive battle” sometime in the spring.

Ukraine used NATO ammunition to kill Donetsk civilians – Russia

HIMARS and 155mm guns were reportedly used in the attack that killed nine and injured seven

Over a dozen civilianshave been killed by a series of artillery attacks onresidential areas in Donbass on Thursday, local media outlets have reported. Kiev’s forces used NATO-supplied howitzers and rocket launchers in two attacks on Donetsk city, Russia’s investigative committee has stated.

A strike on a parking lot in the Kalininsky district of Donetsk killed nine civilians and injured seven, according to the authorities. After processing the crime scene, one Russian investigator said the carnage was caused by a volley from amultiple rocket launch system, “most likely HIMARS.”

The US has supplied three dozen HIMARS launchers to Ukraine over the past year, together with long-range ammunition. Another six rounds from 155mm howitzers, also supplied to Ukraine by the West, struck the Petrovsky district on Thursday afternoon. There were no reports of casualties.

Part of Donetsk city also lost power following the rocket and howitzer attack.

Meanwhile, another artillery strike has targeted abus station in Lisichansk.Three civilians were killed, one was wounded, and a passenger bus was damaged, local authorities said. Lisichansk is in the Lugansk People’s Republic, with the nearest Ukrainian position about 20 kilometers away.

Ukraine has repeatedly pleaded with the US and its allies to send more artillery ammunition, citing shortages that hampered its efforts to hold onto key strategic points such as Artyomovsk or Avdeevka, or launch the much-anticipated “spring offensive” against Russian forces.

Ammunition for both HIMARS and howitzers was listed in the Pentagon’s most recent package of “security assistance” for Kiev, of which $500 million would come from the US military’s existing stocks and another $2.1 billion purchased from the American military industry.

(These districts voted to be part of Russia including Crimea, the US, UN and EU are not supporting their rights. Ukraine seems like the plan they have for the US, destroy religion, the constitution, society and the ultimate freedom of states to separate from federal government control. It’s already started here by Bidan calling all MAGA insurrectionists.)

Russian MP suggests swapping WSJ reporter for Assange

Evan Gershkovich and the WikiLeaks publisher are both facing espionage charges

If Moscow decides on a prisoner swap involving Evan Gershkovich, it should ask forJulian Assange’s release from a British dungeon, Russian State Duma Deputy Sergey Obuhkov said on Friday.

Obuhkov, a Russian Communist Party MP, told reporters that some members of the Duma have already proposedoffering political asylum to former US President Donald Trump and trading him for Gershkovich.(Kek-just wait until the media gets a hold of this.)

I say, let’s exchange him for Assange instead,” Obukhov told RIA Novosti.

Russian authorities detained Gershkovich in Ekaterinburg on March 30, saying they caught him “red-handed” in an act of espionage. A Lefortovo court has ordered the Moscow bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal to remain in custody for two months. He is appealing the decision and will face the judges again on April 18.

Earlier this week, the district attorney in New York had the 45th US president arrested on charges of improper business bookkeeping, supposedly related to “hush money” paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels, which they allege somehow improperly influenced the 2016 presidential election. Trump has denounced the charges as a politically motivated “witch hunt.”

Assange has been held in Belmarsh prison in south London since April 2019, after Ecuador canceled his asylum under pressure from the US. He had spent almost seven years in the embassy of the Latin American country, seeking refuge from trumped-up Swedish charges he called a front for US persecution.

After his arrest, Washington unsealed a years-old indictment charging the WikiLeaks publisher under the Espionage Act. He is wanted for the 2010 publication of the notorious 'Collateral Murder' video showing the US military killing civilians, as well as other US classified documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If extradited and convicted, Assange faces up to 175 years behind bars.

Russia and the US last swapped prisoners in December, with Moscow releasing convicted drug smuggler and basketball star Brittney Griner in exchange for businessman Viktor Bout. Washington has faced criticism for not requesting the release of Paul Whelan, a retired US Marine serving a sentence in Russia for espionage.

Bank of America event cut over Ukraine criticism

Speakers at an online conference for clients calledKiev the losing side in the conflict, and criticized President Zelensky

Bank of America (BofA) cut short an online event earlier in the week and apologized, after clients accused it of promoting “Moscow’s talking points,” according to the Financial Times.

Some attendees were aggrieved by criticisms of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and a description of the economic damage his country has suffered, and raised their complaints during the conference, the British newspaper reported on Thursday.

The two-day BofA conference on geopolitics kicked off on Tuesday, but the organizers canceled three sessions discussing US sanctions against Russia and relations between Washington and Moscow, the paper said. A bank strategist phoned clients to apologize for what they heard during the first day, sources told the outlet.

Two speakers were named as supposedly creating an anti-Ukraine tone. Daniel Sheehan, BofA Securities’ senior vice-president for international relations, reportedly referred to President Zelensky “a master manipulator and mimic” and claimed the US government had “serious concerns”about him. A BofA spokesperson told the FT that Sheehan was explaining the views of other people about the Ukrainian leader, and not his own.

Nicolai Petro, professor of political science at the University of Rhode Island, was also identified as having objectionable views. Petro is a scholar of the Soviet Union and Russia, who recently authored a book titled ‘The Tragedy of Ukraine: What Classical Greek Tragedy Can Teach Us About Conflict Resolution.’

His prepared speech, which he shared with the FT, describedUkraine as “the overwhelming loser” in the conflict, due to the economic and demographic damage it has sustained.

“If this is what Russia meant by removing Ukraine’s capacity to wage war against Russia, then it will arguably have won,” he said.

Petro raised Kiev’s intention to become an agricultural superpower as “recommended by the EU and the United States” and argued thatWashington’s interestwas to prolong the hostilities, since it benefited from a “dramatic increase in EU energy and military dependence on the US.”

The newspaper did not identify critics of the event, except for Timothy Ash of BlueBay Asset Management, who had previously expressed his displeasure publicly. In a tweet on Wednesday, he stated that US banks engaged speakers “who so often roll thru Moscow’s talking points.”

An anonymous critic told FT that the conference “was more like Bank of Russia than Bank of America” and “overwhelmingly pro-Russian.” Another one called Petro’s remarks “absolutely shocking [and] straight out of the foreign ministry of Russia”.

FEC Commissioner Undermines Entire Manhattan Prosecution, The Trump-Daniels NDA Is Not an Election Campaign Violation

April 6, 2023 | Sundance |

If the other substantive weaknesses in the politically constructed Manhattan case against Donald Trump do not lead to a pre-trial dismissal, this one should collapse it.The Commissioner of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) explicitly states the payments by President Trump to Stormy Daniels are not an election campaign violation.

WASHINGTON DC – A key member of the Federal Election Commission today rejected the Manhattan district attorney’s indictment of former President Donald Trump as a violation of federal election laws.

“It’s not a campaign finance violation. It’s not a reporting violation of any kind,” said FEC Commissioner James E. “Trey” Trainor. In trying to stretch the lawto make it look like a violation, he added, District Attorney Alvin Bragg “is really trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole.”

In a 34-count indictment of Trump, the first criminal case ever against a former president, Bragg charged that a $130,000 payment made by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels, which Cohen went to jail for in a plea deal, violated several campaign finance laws that splashed onto Trump. [T]he FEC and Justice Department already considered the case and tossed it.

First, he said,Cohen took the blamein his plea deal. “At the end of the day, there’s the person who committed the crime, and there’s the person who is behind bars because of it,” Trainor said of Cohen.

Second, thepaperwork violationin question came well after Trump’s 2016 election, so itcouldn’t have been done to help his election.

Third, it isnot obviousthat the reason for the payment and the reimbursement to Cohen was toinfluence the election, thus failing the “objective standard” of law. “It has to be something that anybody on the street can look at and say the only reason you did that was to influence the campaign,” said Trainor. “There’s alot of reasonsthat he could have done it that aren’t related to him being a candidate for president, and so therefore, it wouldn’t have met the standard as campaign expenditure under federal law,” he added. (It helps the FEC said this, because every constitutional lawyer has said the same)

Epic Panda!

April 6, 2023 | Sundance

This is the funniest thing in months. Take the time to enjoy and laugh folks…Really, take the time.

French President Emmanuel Macron is in Beijing for an official state visit and his geopolitical priority is to break, or at least weaken, the China-Russia alliance. Yes, the western alliance sent diminutive Macron for this task. That is funny enough… but what comes next is buckets funnier.

In order to give power to their position, the brilliant NATO minds decided that President Macron should take European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as a way to express the united ‘western alliance’ message that Macron was intended to leverage in his efforts. Obviously cunning Panda knew the intent, and the way China literally diminished the effort is not only funny in diplomatic action, but also in the optics they present. LOOK:

Upon arrival in Beijing, and customary with keeping good panda face, Macron “was given the full red-carpet treatment this week in Beijing, fêted at a state banquet, and greeted by military parades and firing cannons on Tiananmen Square. When Macron’s plane touched down, China’s foreign minister personally welcomed him.” However, “when European Commission PresidentUrsula von der Leyen arrived, she got the ecology minister — at the regular passenger exit.” [link]

Big Panda is subtle like a brick through a window. lolol.

(Politico) – […]While Macron’s schedule was overflowing, von der Leyen’s was bare-bones. While Macron was attending a lavish state banquet Thursday night with Chinese President Xi Jinping, von der Leyen was giving a sober press conference at the EU delegation’s own headquarters. While state media trumpeted the Sino-French relationship, Chinese social media demonized von der Leyen as an American puppet.

The distinction illustrates the difficulties Europe is having in dealing with China. The EU’s 27 members have an array of opinions about how to approach China — and Beijing knows this. And in the case of Macron and von der Leyen, Beijing sees a greater chance to make headway with the French leader, rendering the EU executive to a somewhat subordinate position.

The strategy was on full display Thursday, as Xi descended the outsized steps of the Great Hall of the People to greet the French president with smiles and a handshake. Below a line of flapping red flags, the two leaders exchanged greetings with a gathering that included some of Macron’s advisers.

Not present: von der Leyen. She would join later for the meetings, walking up the Great Hall stairs in solitude. (read more)

The only world leader who was/is able to diminute Chairman Xi Jinping, was U.S. President Donald Trump.

This entire effort by Macron and Von der Leyen is an exhibition inpainful and slow-moving Panda humiliation. Even Politico had to note the cringe factor that surrounds the diplomatic undressing.

Even if you don’t like Big Panda, and obviously we do not, you still have to give them credit. It really is funny.

Well played, big panda… Well played.

First Thing: Trump most popular Republican despite indictment

Hours after his court appearance, it was clear ex-president’s political calculus remained unchanged.

When the indictment against him was read out in a courtroom in New York City on Tuesday, the former US president Donald Trump gained a new title: criminal defendant.

Americans saw a quiet and tense Trump walk into the courtroom under the guard of both the Secret Service and New York City police department – whose officers stood behind him during his appearance before a judge, as they do with any other defendant, writes Chris Stein. There, he learned he was facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments and “catch and kill” attempts to suppress negative news coverage about his affair with the adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

As unprecedented as that was, it has become clear in the hours after his appearance that the fundamental political calculus has not changed for Trump, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. He remains the most popular man in the GOP, and the break his enemies have long sought between him and the rest of the Republican party seems as distant as ever.

“For those who think this will harm President Trump’s chances at running for the White House in 2024, I have news for you: it won’t,” Kevin Hern, who leads the Republican Study Committee, the influential conservative body that is the largest ideological caucus in Congress..

Remember how Zelensky was telling Xi=“he was ready to meet him face to face and Xi should meet in Ukraine” and his staff said they reached out to Xi’s staff numerous times for meeting and said “he must be busy, we are awaiting a call back to set up a meeting”? Well Xi gave his answer to Macron after a lot of harassment:

From Politico

“Though Macron pressed Xi to use his sway with Russia during his 90-minute meeting, he had little to show for his efforts.Xi agreed to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — but only at an unspecified time.”

Democrat Jamie Raskin Whines He Doesn’t Have a Copy of Hunter’s Laptop

Wendell Husebø7 Apr 2023

(I remember Matt Gaetz put in the congress record, so he can get it there)

Ranking member of the House Oversight Committee Jamie Raskin (D-MD)threw a “tantrum”on Thursday because he has not received a copy of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop after House Democrats were in the majority for two years.

Even though Democrats refused to admit the emails on the laptop were authentic for over a year after initially reported in October of 2020, Raskin is now scolding his colleague Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chair of the Oversight Committee, for not providing a copy to him.

Rather than provide the Minority with equal access to this drive, you have directed usto obtain the information from other sources — including from a questionable public website or from John Paul Mac Isaac, the owner of the computer repair shop that allegedly obtained Hunter Biden’s laptop,” Raskin complained in a letter to Comer.

Raskin is seemingly so anxious to obtain a copy for himself he demanded Comer tell him where and how he acquired the widely available contents.

In a Thursday press release, Comer replied to Raskin’s “tantrum” by suggestinghe should coordinate with the Biden family to come up with a better public relations strategy.

“Instead of throwing a tantrum about the Committee’s oversight, Democrats’ time would be better spent continuing to coordinate with the Biden family to come up with a believable explanation for what the bank records continue to show,” Comer said. “As we continue to work to uncover the truth, we will be undeterred by Ranking Member Raskin’s antics.”

Raskin’s comments come after many Democrats and media personalities deniedHunter’s laptop was authentic. Some even falsely claimed the laptop was Russian disinformation.

“I think it’s broadly known and widely known that there was a broad range of Russian disinformation back in 2020,” former White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed in response to a reporter’s question about the laptop.

While some establishment media news organizations finally admitted last year the laptop was Hunter’s, they have failed to widely report on why the FBI’s investigation into Hunter and his laptop has seemingly dissipated.

In February, speaking before the House “Weaponization” committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said whistleblowers have told his office that FBI personnel at the Washington Field Office “improperly ordered information to be closed by the FBI related to Hunter Biden’s potential criminal conduct in October 2020 — just before the election — even though it was verified or verifiable.”

Hunter’s former businesses partner, Tony Bobulinski, who personally met with Joe and Hunter Biden in 2017 for an hour to discuss “the Bidens’ family business plans” for a Chinese energy deal, handed over intelligence about the arrangement to Thibault. In turn, Thibault reportedly buried the information. The deal included ten percent “held by H for the big guy,” who Bobulinski said was Joe Biden.

CBS’ O’Keefe: Biden Afghanistan Report Was ‘Ready for Weeks’ and Dumped Before a Holiday Weekend

Ian Hanchett7 Apr 2023

On Thursday,CBS News Senior White Houseand Political Correspondent Ed O’Keefe stated that the release of the Biden administration’s Afghanistan report on the Thursday before a holiday weekend is “the definition of a news dump.” And the report “has been ready for weeks, if not months.”

O’Keefe stated, “This is a twelve-page watered-down,neutered cleansing of what [are] two otherwise classified, far more detailed, lengthy after-action reviews done by the Pentagon and by the State Department that will not be released to the public, because they are classified.”

He added, “What’s telling is that this — we are led to believe — has been ready for weeks, if not months. Versions of this have been to the secretary of Defense and the secretary of State. They have then been passed up to the National Security Council, which, in essence, serves as the super desk for all things international or foreign relations in the administration and they’re the ones that wrote thiswatered-down public report— if you want to call it that.

And they’re releasing it here on the Thursday before a holiday weekend, in the midst of the Catholic and Jewish high holidays, when thepresident literally was leaving the White Houseas the report was released, and whenreporters were given just ten minutesheads-up before they came out for that briefing, which meant that we weren’t necessarily able to give it the fullest review that would lead to better questions.

And now, the State Department and the Pentagonpress corps at least won’t have a chance to askpeople in public about this until next week. Fine, that’s their decision.

The other thing is thatCongress isn’t in session, and they’re the ones that have been asking for this. … It’s the definition of a news dump.”

(When CBS says this, you know no one is buying its Trump’s fault)
