America First Legal: Biden White House was Involved in Mar-a-Lago Raid on Leading Political Opponent President Trump

On Monday America First Legal revealed that the Biden White House involved in the unprecedented raid on former President Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago in August 2022.

The DOJ and Biden White House then lied about their efforts.

America First Legal reported:

Today, America First Legal (AFL) filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the National Archives and Records Administration’s (NARA) Office of the Inspector General to obtain records related to the Biden White House’s “Special Access Request” for President Trump’s records located at Mar-a-Lago.

On August 8, 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an unprecedented raid of Mar-a-Lago on the ground that potentially classified records existed there. According to press reports, Biden Administration aides were “stunned” to hear of this development.

However, new NARA records obtained through America First Legal’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Mar-a-Lago raid further confirmed that the FBI obtained access to these records through a “special access request” from the Biden White House on behalf of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

It appears that the Biden White House and DOJ coordinated to obtain the Trump records and perhaps create a pretext for the law enforcement raid by way of a “special access request.”

What this effectively means is that there are substantial discrepancies between what the Archives has told Congress and what appears in its internal communications. For example, Acting Archivist Debra Wall told Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) on August 16, 2022, that NARA “had not been involved in the DOJ investigation or any searches that it has conducted.”

This stunning revelation suggests that NARA was misleading Congress about the White House’s role in the shocking raid of President Trump’s home, and the fact that the Biden White House was acting “on behalf of” the DOJ raises significant legal concerns.

The special access statute authorizes special access requests to an incumbent president only when the records in question are needed for “the conduct of current business” of the White House. Providing documents to the DOJ for purposes of a criminal investigation is not the “current business” of the White House.

Accordingly, America First Legal is demanding NARA turn over records related to the Biden White House’s involvement in the politically motivated raid of President Trump’s home.

Syria Episode Shows How Contractors Still Used To Fight America's Wars

It’s become increasingly apparent that official data on US military personnel deployed in so-called war zones overseas may be understating the actual number. Likewise, active duty military casualties account for only a portion of the American deaths suffered in Washington’s various overseas crusades in the last 20 years.

The principal mechanism for that statistical deception is the Pentagon’s growing use of "civilian contractors," like the one killed in a drone strike targeting US military on a coalition base in eastern Syria last week.

According to the Congressional Research Service in January, at the end of 2022 there were approximately 22,000 contractor personnel working for the DoD throughout Central Command’s area of responsibility, with a reported 7,908 contractors located in Iraq and Syria.

When most people hear that term used, they assume that the individuals involved are support personnel providing food, transportation, and other services to the military. This is true.

But in many cases the contractors are substituting for armed security — mercenaries if you will — and they can suffer casualties at a rate similar to troops who are officially members of the U.S. armed forces.

In 2017, U.S. Army General John Nicholson, then Commander of the NATO Resolute Support Mission and United States Forces – Afghanistan, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Pentagon had to “substitute contractors for soldiers in order to meet the force manning levels” in Afghanistan.

As of October 2018, there were over 25,000 contractors in Afghanistan. Of them, 4,172 were private security contractors in Afghanistan, with 2,397 categorized as armed private security contractors.

The peak of contractor use, of course, was during the Global War on Terror, when the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan, said in its final report in 2011 that there was an "unhealthy over-reliance" on military contractors by DoD, Department of State, and USAID.

LEAKED DOCS: New Chinese Hypersonic Missile Has ‘High Probability’ Of Penetrating US Defenses

The People’s Republic of China flight tested a hypersonic missile still in development that has a “high probability” of penetrating U.S. air defenses, according to leaked documents from the Department of Defense (DOD).

The PRC conducted a test flight for a Dongfeng-27 missile, designed to carry hypersonic glide vehicles, on Feb. 25, according to the DOD document reviewed by the Daily Caller. The DF-27, a successor to the DF-17 still being developed, is aimed at enhancing China’s ability to strike targets beyond the Second Island Chain in the Pacific, and has a “high probability” of penetrating U.S. ballistic missile defenses (BMD).

The classified documents were initially leaked online last month on various social media platforms, the first of which is believed to have been a Minecraft group on Discord. They were subsequently scrubbed from social media, before resurfacing in media reports in recent days during which time they were acquired by the Daily Caller.

The developmental DF-27 flew for approximately 12 minutes and covered a range of 2,100 kilometers (about 1,300 miles) during that timespan, according to the intelligence briefing reviewed by the Daily Caller.

Relatively little is publicly known about the DF-27. A 2021 DOD report for Congress claimed that “sources indicate a ‘longrange’ DF-27 ballistic missile is in development” that could possess a range of 5,000-8,000 kilometers (3,100-5,000 miles). The People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF) began fielding its first hypersonic weapons system, the DF-17 in 2020, according to U.S. intelligence. It was among the first hypersonic weapons systems in the world to become operational.

Video clips and photos of the DF-27 system have been spotted at PLA military parades and in training material during the past two years. The DF-27’s extended range and ability to penetrate U.S. air defenses would open up a number of targets in Hawaii, Alaska and Australia, although it still would not be capable of reaching the continental United States, The Diplomat reported.

The Second Island Chain referred to in the DOD intelligence briefing is the Eastern boundary of the Philippine Sea, and includes Japan’s Bonin Islands and Volcano Islands, the Mariana Islands, which includes Guam, the Western Caroline Islands and Western New Guinea. It is considered the second maritime boundary of containment for the U.S. against China.

MSNBC’s Wallace: Not One Republican ‘Doing a Single Goddamn Thing to Protect Democracy’

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace said Monday on her show “Deadline” that not one Republican is doing a “single goddamn thing to protect democracy” while discussing Tennessee state lawmakers expelling two members from their House seats.

Wallace said, “This is a Republican problem. The Democrats haven’t done anything wrong other than maybe not fighting like Republicans. The corruption of the party that you and I were a part of is also a story that gets short-shifted. We sanitize that too. It’s corrupt from the top to the bottom, from east to west. Not one Republican condemned the Tennessee Republican majority for what they did. Not one Republican who thought that bringing democracy to Iraq or Afghanistan would make our country safer, which was — I know it’s unpopular now—that was the position of Mitch McConnell and every elected Republican. Not one of them is interested in doing a single goddamn thing to protect democracy here in America, here in Tennessee. Not one of them. And I actually find it more chilling that not a single Republican condemned what the yahoos in Tennessee did than what the yahoos in Tennessee actually did.”

Pompeo: We Should Do ‘Everything We Can’ to Help Taiwan Including U.S. Troops

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday on FNC’s “America Reports” that the United States should do everything we can to help Taiwan, including sending using U.S. troops.

Pompeo said, “You have to convince the Chinese Communist Party there are real costs for bad behavior and if their president who says, ‘Gosh, a minor incursion into Europe might be OK, or they see a president abandon Afghanistan where we have 13 killed, those are the things the Chinese leadership will see as appeasing, and puts American lives at risk.”

Co-host Sandra Smith said, “Senator Lindsey Graham suggested this as far as troops in Taiwan.”

On “Fox News Sunday,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said, “Strategic ambiguity is not working. China, after Afghanistan, believes the store is open, that you can go in and take whatever you want on Biden’s watch. I would be very much open to using U.S. forces to defend Taiwan. It’s in our national security interest to do so.”

Smith said, “Are you on board with that as well, U.S. troops on the ground to defend Taiwan?”

Pompeo said, “We often think about Taiwan in isolation. Think about this. Japan will almost certainly get drawn into this if there is an invasion in Taiwan. Also, we have a security guarantee to support Taiwan, Article 5 in the NATO agreement giving the Taiwanese the tools to make sure the day never happens. We did for four years. But push comes to shove. The United States has to be all in to protect Taiwan, Japan, Australia, South Korea.”

Smith said, “So, to be clear, that’s a yes.”

Pompeo said, “Yes, we should do everything we can.”

Shadow Attorney-General Julian Leeser quits Liberal frontbench to support Voice to Parliament

Shadow Attorney-General and Indigenous Australians spokesman Julian Leeser has quit the Liberal frontbench, making way for him to campaign for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Key points:

Julian Leeser has spent the last decade campaigning for a Voice to Parliament

He says he's been unsuccessful at convincing his Liberal colleagues to support a constitutionally enshrined Voice

Mr Leeser was absent when Peter Dutton announced the Liberal policy last week

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton last week announced the Liberals would not support a constitutionally enshrined Voice, with the Liberal leader vowing to actively campaign against it in the lead-up to the referendum.

Mr Leeser has been a longtime supporter of an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

"Over the past year I have had many respectful discussions with my parliamentary colleagues about the Voice. I have listened to their views and they have heard mine, but ultimately I have not been able to persuade them," Mr Leeser said in a statement.

He was absent from the press conference where Mr Dutton announced the Liberal policy, which the leader said was to allow for Mr Leeser to return to Sydney for Passover.

While frontbenchers are required to follow party policies, Liberal rules allow for backbenchers to adopt a different position.

"My resignation as a frontbencher is not about personality, it’s about keeping faith with an issue that I have been working on for almost a decade," Mr Leeser said.

Hundreds of feds flock to Big Tech – media

US tech giants have hired 248 employees from the FBI, CIA, Justice Department and Homeland Security in just 5 years

Four of the largest social media platforms in the US are reinforcing the ties between Big Tech and Big Brother, hiring 248 ex-government employees, according to a Daily Caller investigation into hiring practices at Google, Twitter, Meta, and TikTok.

Google was the most enthusiastic in its hiring, picking up 130 ex-agents from the FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department, the outlet reported on Sunday, based on research using LinkedIn.

Meta, which owns both Facebook and Instagram, welcomed 47 former government employees into its ranks, while Twitter absorbed 46 – including 20 from the FBI. TikTok took in 25 ex-feds, despite the Biden administration’s recent ban on using the app on any government device.

Claiming that “the revolving door” between the tech industry and government has been a “feature of DC for as long as I can remember,” former US deputy associate attorney general Reed Rubinstein told the Daily Caller that the alliance between the two should nevertheless leave Americans “concerned.”

“The integration of Big Tech and the national security state… really it’s dystopian, it’s terrifying. They have enough data to show that power, which is immense, will be abused,” he said, warning that “right now, there is no effective check on it.”

Tennessee Dem reinstated to House after storming state Capitol

All 36 members of the council voted to reappoint Jones as an interim representative for the 52nd District.

On Monday afternoon, Justin Jones, a Democratic Tennessee state representative who was expelled for leading an anti-gun protest into the state Capitol last month, was reinstated to the House.

According to The Hill, the Nashville Metropolitan Council voted unanimously to reinstate Jones. All 36 members of the council voted to reappoint him as an interim representative for the 52nd District.

Speaking with MSNBC on Sunday, Justin Jones, a now former Democratic Tennessee state representative who was expelled for leading an anti-gun protest into the state Capitol last month, claimed that his removal was due to a "white supremacist system."

"We’re in the midst of a third Reconstruction here in Tennessee that hopefully will have national implications," Jones told MSNBC's Al Sharpton. "But what it means is that this White supremacist system being led by Speaker Cameron Sexton is an attempt to divide and conquer us. But in reality, you see we, the Tennessee Three, we continue to stand together."

During the protest, which took place after a transgender shooter killed six people, including three children, at a private Christian school in Nashville, Jones and fellow Democrat Justin Pearson were expelled for violating House rules. A third Democrat, Gloria Johnson, was spared expulsion by just one vote.

"Though their vote was racist, though their vote was to expel the two youngest Black lawmakers, their attack on democracy hurts all of us, whether you’re Black, brown or White, it's an assault on all of us" Jones continued.

The three led protestors to the House floor to demand stricter gun laws, using bull horns to address the House floor. Republicans said the three Democrat lawmakers were engaged in "disorderly behavior" and said they "did knowingly and intentionally bring disorder and dishonor to the House of Representatives through their individual and collective actions."

Despite the controversy surrounding their removal, Vice President Kamala Harris met with The Tennessee Three after their expulsion, while President Joe Biden invited them to the White House. Although they were expelled on Thursday, Jones could return to his seat on Monday as Nashville's metro council seeks to reappoint him, according to Fox News.

Brazil: 523 victims of slave labor rescued in 2023

The information was disclosed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment

Brazilian authorities this year have rescued 523 victims of slavery-like working conditions in the whole country. The information was disclosed this week to Agência Brasil by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

In the state of São Paulo, the first case of the year, still under investigation, was registered on January 26. According to the Labor Prosecution Office (MPT), 32 workers from the sugar cane production chain were found in this condition.

The workers' accommodations were in "terrible conditions of hygiene and comfort," as detailed by MPT. "There were old mattresses, torn linings, old stoves and refrigerators, bathrooms in precarious conditions of hygiene, and exposed electrical installations," the office reported.

What is slave labor?

The current Brazilian legislation classifies as slave labor any forced activity—when the person is prevented from leaving his or her place of work—performed under degrading conditions or exhausting working hours. Also subject to complaint is any case in which the employee is constantly and ostentatiously watched by his or her employer.

A report written by the International Labor Organization (ILO), Walk Free, and the International Organization for Migration, released in September 2022, points out that around 28 million people worldwide were victims of forced labor in 2021. Most cases (86%) occur in the private sector, and almost one in eight people who were subjected to this type of violation is a child (3.3 million).

The Labor Prosecution Office has a channel available on its website for registering complaints of crimes that violate workers' rights. The notification can be made anonymously.
