Satan was clearly given ownership of this world. He holds the scroll of ownership. That is how he could offer the world to Jesus.
What he didn't understand was that a perfect, living, sacrifice would revoke his ownership.
Jesus performed the ultimate hail mary by being the first male heir, highly educated and exceedingly pleasant and perfect in every way voluntarily becoming a sacrifice to Satan in order to free everyone from eternal bondage.
Had satan truly understood what he was doing, he would not have gone through with it, unless he too was looking for forgiveness and a way back to God's side.
Perhaps the only remaining evil in this world is within humanity. Maybe satan himself got tired of all of this eons ago and is still bound by his word too.
