TRAILER TRUCK OVERTURNS AT MERGE POINT OF I-79 AND I-70 IN PA…. A TWO-FER
I-70 and I-79 share a stretch of roadway about 3 miles long. all traffic on I-79 from both the north and south must merge onto I-70. a trailer overturned on a high ramp at the merge point of the southern segment of I-79 with I-70 westbound, and the trailer rolled over the barrier and dumped its contents onto the ramp for westbound traffic on I-70 to merge onto I-79 southbound. both those ramps are completely closed pending removal of the dangling trailer and the debris below. the northbound traffic on I-79 is completely stopped and prevented from merging with I-70 in either direction (west or east). the scene is a clusterfuck, and likely to remain so for a long while, because PA troopers have a penchant for "thorough" investigation of accidents with zero regard for getting traffic moving again.
a major traffic hiccup on two of the region's major commerce routes, with a lot of distribution hubs in the area.
