The FBI defense that it needs the ability to conduct warrantless "defensive" FISA 702 queries for Americans' communications for reasons like this is ripe for abuse.
Here's a few of the litany of examples of foreign influence fears serving as basis for surveillance abuse….

This article is muddled and premised on a common misunderstanding of the classification system. Clearance level does not equal access to classified info. At the system’s core is need to know. The government must determine 1) if info is properly classified & 2) who needs to know.
