I work in a niche department in our defense structure responsible for ensuring accurate forecasts regarding seismic activity. I work closely with the USGS to create heat maps of dates in which seismic activity is most likely to happen so that our defense apparatus can sway some resources to and fro in the event of a cataclysmic event resulting in a massive loss of life.
I won’t get into the specific data, there isn’t much point in it. Seismic activity exploded along the west coast USA. The fault lines present, the Juan De Fuca and the Cascadia are making moves that are giving myself and my peers reason to panic.
We’re anticipating a major quake anywhere from a 7.3 all the way to a 9.0 or 9.2 in the coming hours or just a few days. We can’t tell now if there will be a tsunami until buoy data is received and unfortunately that occurs post-shake.
I would implore all readers to prep and to even stay at a family member’s home at least 75+ miles away from the coastline. The shaking will be intense, so further is better however I understand some may not have the opportunity.
Even at 75 miles from the coastline, which is already miles away from the fault lines, you will experience shaking and destruction as if you were in a 5.0. Minor building damage and major masonry building damage. Don’t be beer brick buildings or concrete structures.
