Sounds like an excuse to put people through some bullshit to forcibly adjust their path in accordance with some authoritarian's view of existence they perceive everyone else was persuaded away from for the sake of justifying an endorsement of a deterministic, conceptualized, idealistic outcome.
I don't know if cheering or jeering is the correct response, but respecting the effort is seems appropriate. It's certainly commendable from an idealistic perspective. Having said that, a Libertarian would feel raped and discarded at such a realization.
