The republican did not switch over to racism to attract whites. The people switched because it matched their economic and religious values which was beneficial to them. The racism lie is all tied to this. That's the cointelpro that has been run on black people since the 60's.

Just like blacks had started slowly swapping to democrat in the 30's because of the new deal. It benefitted them. The above lie cemented their stay.
