2,000 rounds of ammunition reported missing at VA campus near Aspinwall
Pittsburgh's Action News 4 confirmed Wednesday that cases of ammunition intended for VA police are missing at the Veterans Administration O'Hara Township campus near Aspinwall.
"VA Pittsburgh received a pallet of police training ammunition April 10. Within an hour of receipt, VA Police noticed that two cases, consisting of 2,000 rounds, were missing from the order," Shelley Kay Nulph, Public and Community Relations Manager for the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, said.
"They immediately notified VA's Office of Security and Law Enforcement and Office of the Inspector General and initiated their own internal investigation. The VA Police also contacted the manufacturer and shipping companies, who are conducting separate internal reviews," Nulph wrote via email.
The VA says the investigation is ongoing, so they do not know if the ammunition was lost or missing in transit or taken from the VA location, also known as the H.J. Heinz III campus.
