Hunter Biden’s Lawyers to Meet with DOJ Officials Next Week as Prosecutors Consider Charges

Hunter Biden’s lawyers will meet with DOJ officials next week to discuss the criminal investigation into Joe Biden’s son.

Hunter’s lawyers are scheduled to meet with US Attorney from Delaware Davis Weiss (a Trump appointee) and at least one other DOJ official, CNN reported.

According to reports, prosecutors are considering bringing misdemeanor and felony charges against Hunter Biden for tax crimes and false statements related to a gun purchase.

Lawyers for Hunter Biden are scheduled to meet next week with US attorney David Weiss and at least one senior career official from Justice Department headquarters to discuss the long-running investigation into the president’s son, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

The Hunter Biden legal team had reached out to Justice officials in recent weeks, asking for an update on the case. As is routine when lawyers request a status update, they were invited to meet next week, according to one source familiar with the meeting.

Weiss, the US Attorney in Delaware who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, is overseeing an ongoing criminal case into President Joe Biden’s son.

After prosecutors narrowed down the possible charges Hunter Biden could face last year, there haven’t been any public developments. According to sources familiar with the investigation, prosecutors are still weighing whether to bring two misdemeanor charges for failure to file taxes, one count of felony tax evasion related to the overreporting of expenses, and a false statement charge regarding a gun purchase.

The Feds are mishandling the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, according to an IRS supervisor who is seeking whistleblower protection.

In 2020 Hunter Biden revealed that he is under investigation by the feds over his taxes.

“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” Hunter Biden said in December 2020. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”

Hunter Biden is also under criminal investigation for making a false statement in connection with a gun purchase.

Oprah Winfrey has amassed an impressive collection of Montecito real estate over the last two decades.

But the media mogul’s latest headline in the luxury community is not about a house, but a wall — one that neighbors fear might reroute flooding onto their properties during the next rainstorm.

After months of heavy rainfall and flooding across the community, a boulder wall was installed along San Ysidro Creek, which runs along Winfrey’s estate, to protect the property from flooding and creek erosion, according to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk.

It’s a reasonable precaution; Montecito has long been prone to weather disasters, including a 2018 mudslide filmed by Winfrey that killed 23 people, a number of whom were swept into San Ysidro Creek. Earlier this year, the area was evacuated when a storm swept through the community.

But residents fear that the wall could redirect the creek, pushing floodwater onto other properties during intense rainfall.

“You can’t alter creek canals and not expect there to be results,” Sharon Byrne, executive director of the Montecito Assn., said in an interview with Noozhawk. “Don’t change the creeks. They are going to shift and move on their own.”

The wall was reportedly installed by Jimenez Nursery, which obtained a permit to build it on Feb. 1, a few weeks after the area was evacuated. The permit sought to reconstruct the creek bank after the flood and replace boulders that had either eroded or washed away.

This month, a group of officials and inspectors met at the wall to analyze the project after a complaint was filed with the county. John Zorovich, a deputy director for the Santa Barbara County Planning & Development Department, told SF Gate that an investigation was ongoing.

The wall was built on Winfrey’s Santa Rosa Lane property, which she bought at auction for $28.85 million in 2015. At the time of the sale, the 23-acre estate known as Seamair Farm held a ranch-style home built by prolific architect Cliff May as well as equestrian facilities such as a stable, barn, riding rings and a horse trainer’s house.

The property was an expansion of “the Promised Land,” Winfrey’s famous main residence that she picked up for around $50 million in 2001. The 42-acre spread centers on a 23,000-square-foot Georgian-style mega-mansion overlooking the ocean.

72-Hour Ceasefire Declared In Sudan As Death Toll Surpasses 400

One of Sudan’s two warring factions, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has on Friday declared a 72-hour ceasefire following almost a week of fighting to take control of the country.

But there are reports that despite the truce declaration, armed clashes have persisted north of the capital of Khartoum. The other side, the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), had not immediately confirmed whether it recognizes the ceasefire.

Fighting broke out last Saturday, and is fundamentally a power struggle between rival generals representing the two factions, and has largely been confined to the capital, but threatens to engulf the rest of the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) meanwhile announced a fresh death toll Friday, saying at least 413 people are confirmed killed and 3,551 wounded or injured.

The situation has continued to deteriorate over the past days, also as the Pentagon said it is moving troops in place in the region in preparation to execute a potential emergency evacuation order. US diplomats and embassy staff are still said to be sheltering in place.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has also said it can't deliver urgent aid due to lack of security guarantees and potential for its workers to be subject to violence.

"Our urgent priority is to get medical assistance to more hospitals and to work to make repairs to their water and power infrastructure. We are ready to deliver more supplies as soon as there is a pause in the fighting," the president of the ICRC Mirjana Spoljaric said.

The ceasefire offered by the RSF appears to be because of Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the formal end of Ramadan, and began Friday.

Dozens of former intelligence officials signed an October 2020 letter published by Politico that claimed a bombshell New York Post report about emails from a laptop supposedly abandoned by Hunter Biden “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”

Twitter locked multiple accounts, including the New York Post’s and the personal account of McEnany, for sharing the Oct, 14, 2020 report, citing a “hacked materials” policy. Documents released to journalist Michael Shellenberger by Elon Musk show that the FBI contacted Twitter about the potential for leaks involving Hunter Biden prior to the New York Post’s report.

“If you’re a Republican, you don’t not get that treatment, you get a fake dossier made, you get FISA surveillance authorization and safeguards circumvented and get people spying on your campaign spied on and you get the media buying hook, line and sinker,” McEnany continued. “If you didn’t believe there was a deep state, believe it now after this story came out. It’s not just a term pedaled in the deep, dark holes of the internet. It’s real.”

The Daily Caller News Foundation confirmed the authenticity of one of the emails in October 2020. The Washington Post and New York Times confirmed the authenticity of the data in March 2022 in articles about investigations into Hunter Biden by the Department of Justice.

The allegations contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a "senior political appointee," who has now been identified as Garland.

The whistleblower's claims also involve "failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case," as well as "preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected," according to a letter from attorney Mark Lytle.

The White House has dismissed the claims, referencing the independence of the Department of Justice. "The president respects the rule of law and the independence of the Department of Justice," press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said when asked about the claims.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Friday it was “bizarre” that House Republicans want to rescind unobligated coronavirus aid funds to the Treasury Department.

Jean-Pierre praised Biden’s management of the pandemic but said the pandemic is not over. “But we are in a different place,” she claimed.

“It is bizarre, after the progress that we have seen, for Republicans to be asking this,” she said about returning taxpayer funds to the Treasury.

On Wednesday, House Republicans launched a plan to raise the debt limit with spending cuts. The bill would increase the debt limit by $1.5 trillion and cut spending by $130 billion. As reported by Breitbart News, the proposal would:

Biden has refused to negotiate with Republicans while condemning the plan.

“Folks, you got to ask yourself, what are MAGA Republicans in Congress doing?” Biden questioned the proposal. “Why are they doing this? What is the purpose.”

Supreme Court Protects Access to Abortion Pill

The supreme court protected access to the abortion pill mifepristone

The Supreme Court on Friday protected access to a widely used abortion drug by freezing lower-court rulings that placed restrictions on its usage.

The legal challenge quickly reached the Supreme Court after U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk, a Donald Trump appointee based in Texas, on April 7 revoked FDA approval of mifepristone. abortions.
