The difference in Godfather III between the movie and the actual books, is that "Sonny" never had a child; but in the movie adaption of Godfather III, Vincent Corleone is found to be the illegitimate son of "Sonny".
The book=never had a son
The movie=had a son
Francis Coppola and James Caan were classmates at Hofstra College. Coppola produced all three Godfather films and Caan played the part of "Sonny" Corleone.
