Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
39They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.
43Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
47He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Then the Jews panic, about losing their stolen power. Just like they are today, it's the same battle raging on, not against flesh and blood, but against powers, principalities and rulers.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
Jhn 11:46
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
Jhn 11:47
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
Jhn 11:48
If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
