it's a false sense of security
but at the same time, (they) can't prosecute you for being on a vpn doing questionable stuff because it would bring to light (their) abilities
they can however monitor everything you do, every keystroke you make, they'll be watching you
and eventually you fuck up and that's how they get you
also remember every time there is an "ip hop" you make yourself vulnerable as it disconnects from the vpn service but maintains you ip address for upcoming connection…..
been trying to warn you idiots for a while now, but still some are dumb and get caught and make it too easy….and honestly 7 out of 20ish are just dumb leo's
