True habbening.

Anon does a lot of genealogy work, thus, a lot of reading of historical events. In the not so long ago past, lynch mobs, who took the law into their own hands, were not uncommon.

Anon has read of two cases where the mob dragged the jailer out, surrounded the jail, and set it ablaze, burning to death the prisoner(s) inside.

I don't condone any of that, BUT, I understand the frustration.

Yesterday, anon witnessed a virtual lynch mob in action and it was an incredible (kind of terrifying) thing to watch.

The story goes:

TEXAS - Professional angler, married with kids. Apparently, has a habit of contacting underage females (as evidenced by the several who came forward later), and ask if he can meet up and "cuddle," stating it will "only take about 10 min" and "nobody will have to know - just between you and me."

Yesterday, after being told that the girl he had just contacted was 15, and that her parents were out of town, he gave her the "cuddle" spiel. What he didn't know was that he was actually communicating with underage girl's mama, who told him to come on over.

After professional angler drove 60+ miles in anticipation of his 10 min., he pulled up into the driveway, only to find mama sittin' on the porch, waiting for him.

Professional angler (PA) FREAKED, and hightailed it out of there, and mama jumped in her truck and took off after him.

High speed chase ensued into next county.

Cop sees PA running for his life, and pulls him over for speeding. Mama pulls up behind him, jumps out, and proceeds to show cop all the stuff this pervert had sent to her 15 y/o daughter, and pervert's plan to "cuddle" with her.

Since it happened in the neighboring county, cop didn't have jurisdiction, so he called the sheriff's dept. of the county in which the incident occurred - and that sheriff's dept. REFUSED to send an officer out to take a statement, and/or arrest pervert.

The officer, who stopped pervert for speeding, let pervert go home.

Irate mama, who was LIVID, went home and jumped on fb with the whole story. Many, many, enraged parents began virtually gathering, and decided to do what law refused to

do: hold PA accountable.

Mama's post is shared over 7k times in just a couple of hours.

By noon, every sponsor who sponsored PA had been contacted and all had dropped him. PA frantically took down all his professional angler, and boat, business webpages. By late afternoon, word of the frenzied mob has reached the ears of the local DA. DA immediately sent out an investigator, who downloaded all evidence from mama's phone, and had pervert in jail by suppertime, leaving the "refuse to do anything" Sheriff's Dept with egg on their collective, useless faces.

In less than 24 hours, PA had been utterly destroyed professionally, and taken into custody.

True story.

I don't condone taking measures that devastate a criminal's family members when they had no fault in the crime, but if law had carried out their duties - if law favored victims over criminals - none of the above story would have happened.

There is power in numbers,

and the powers-that-be are terrified of them.
