Yesterday, April 27th, 2023, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at

a private residence on Hwy 190 East in Newton, Texas near Newton High School. The

search warrant was to located evidence relating to the after-prom shooting that occurred on

Sunday, April 23, 2022. Arrest warrants were also issued for four suspects in connection with

this crime. All suspects are charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a firstdegree felony and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a second-degree felony.

Cheston Hartsfield, 19-year-old black male of Newton and Tracy Hickman, 19-year-old

black male of Newton were located in Deridder, Louisiana, and are currently in the

Beauregard Parish Jail. An extradition hearing will be held soon, prior to their transport to

the Jasper County Jail. Cameron Hartsfield, 18-year-old black male of Newton was located in

Tyler County by Woodville Police Department and was transported to the Jasper County Jail

this morning, where he awaits arraignment. Tyler Porter, 19-year-old black male of Newton

was located by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Jasper County Jail

where he awaits arraignment. We are continuing the investigation and encourage anyone who

has information to reach out to us. We want to thank the Jasper County District Attorney’s

Office, Jasper Police Department, The Texas Department of Public Safety, The Bureau of

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Beaumont Police Department, Woodville Police Department, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, The Texas Rangers, and the other agencies

that have assisted in this investigation. We would also like to thank the citizens of Jasper and

Jasper County. The communities have pulled together in support of these victims and all the

children effected by this senseless violence. Everyone has also provided support for the law

enforcement working tirelessly to find and arrest these perpetrators. We could not do what

we do without their support. Lastly, Sheriff Newman would like to thank his team. The

deputies and investigators who leave their families to protect all the citizens in this county.

They have put in countless hours in this investigation, and they are appreciated for their hard

work.
