Ex-Russian president calls for ‘complete’ dismantling of ‘Kiev regime’
Only a crushing military defeat will “calm down” the Ukrainian leadership, Dmitry Medvedev has said
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called for the “complete dismantling” of the “Kiev regime,” as well as for inflicting “mass destruction” on the country’s military personnel and hardware.
Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chair of Russia’s National Security Council, made the remarks in a Telegram post on Friday, commenting on an interview Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recently gave to several Nordic media outlets. He summarized Zelensky’s comments as consisting ofdemands for more weaponsfrom Kiev’s Western backers and promises of a successful counteroffensive, including an attack on Crimea, while also warning that the conflict may drag on for “decades.”
While the interview appeared to be“contradictory” and “delusional,” even such statements should not be underestimated, Medvedev warned.

To successfully foil Kiev’s plans, Russia must inflict “mass destruction of personnel and military equipment” during the much-hyped Ukrainian counteroffensive and inflict a “maximum military defeat” on Kiev’s military, Medvedev said.Ultimately, the “Nazi regime in Kiev” must be “completely dismantled” and demilitarized throughout the entire territory of “former Ukraine,” he added.
Apart from that, Russia must pursue those who manage to flee, and seek “retribution”against the “key figures of the Nazi regime, regardless of their location and without statute of limitations,” Medvedev stressed. Anything short of that would not suffice, the ex-president believes.
“Otherwise, they will not calm down, andthe drug-addled nonsensecan turn into reality and the war will drag on for a long time. Our country does not need that,” Medvedev said.
The ex-president has repeatedly warned Kiev against any attempts to seize the Crimean peninsula, which broke away from Ukraine in the aftermath of the 2014 Maidan coup and joined Russia after locals overwhelmingly supported such a move during a referendum.
Last month,Medvedev issued a nuclear warning to Kiev, cautioning that any attempt at a “serious offensive” targeting the peninsula would be “the basis for the use of all means of protection, including those provided for by the fundamentals of the Doctrine of Nuclear Deterrence.”

Ukraine has restricted use of the ‘Z’ and ‘V’ symbols in personalized license plates, the country’s Interior Ministry announced on Friday.
The two letters are commonly associated with the “Russian aggression” against Ukraine, the ministry asserted, explaining the measure. While the letters were not subjected to a blanket ban, they cannot be used from now on as standalone symbols on a plate or as a substitute for similar-sounding Cyrillic letters in words.
The ‘Z’ and ‘V’ letters originally appeared as tactical markings used on equipment by various groupings of Russian troops at the start of hostilities between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022. Their use as symbols subsequently went viral, surfacing on assorted merchandise and memorabilia related to the ongoing military operation.
However, Ukraine hasabstained from targeting another symbol linked to the hostilities – the letter ‘O’ – which has been commonly used as a tactical marking as well, becoming easily as common as the ‘Z’ and ‘V.’
The inaction against ‘O’ presumably stems from the fact that it’s effectively impossible to distinguish a Cyrillic letter ‘O’ from its Latin counterpart, which would further complicate enforcing such a rule.

Biden green-lights deployment to Mexican border
The US president signed an order allowing active duty reserve troops as needed to fight international drug trafficking
US President Joe Biden issued an executive order on Thursday authorizing Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to deploy active duty reserve troops to the US-Mexican border as needed to fight the illegal drug trade.
“The authorities that have been invoked will ensure the Department of Defense can properly sustain its support of the Department of Homeland Security concerning international drug trafficking along the Southwest Border,”Biden wrote in a message to Congress accompanying the order.
The measure is a response to the White House’s declaration of a national emergency in December 2021 regarding International drug trafficking. The president blamed “drug cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and their facilitators” for bringing “illicit drugs and precursor chemicals” and “drug-related violence” into American communities and imposed sanctions on senior cartel figures.
A growingnumber of Republican politicians including former president Donald Trumphave called for a military solution to the cartel problem. A group of 20 Republican congressmen last month introduced a bill that would designate the Gulf Cartel, Cartel de Noreste, Cartel de Sinaloa, and Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion as “foreign terrorist organizations,” echoing a similar bill from the Senate that would label nine such organizations as terrorists and put together a task force dedicated to dismantling them. The attorneys general of 21 US states had previously petitioned the Biden administration to designate cartels as terrorist organizations.
However, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopes Obrador has argued the fentanyl crisis killing tens of thousands of Americans per year is the result of societal weaknesses north of the border and Chinese fentanyl being shipped to North America. He excoriated the US Drug Enforcement Agency earlier this month for infiltrating the Sinaloa cartel without his government’s knowledge, warning such actions put Mexican and American lives in danger.
Also on Thursday, the State Department unveiled a new migration policy seeking to compensate for the rollback of Section 42, a Trump-era public health order that allowed Customs and Border Patrol to turn back many of the migrants who arrived at the US’ southern border. Already facing a record 2.76 million illegal crossings last year, Customs and Border Patrol fears being overwhelmed by as many as 13,000 crossing attempts per day.

The National Guard airman accused of leaking a trove of secret Pentagon documents amassed a collection of weapons and “had regular discussions about violence and murder” with his online friends,US prosecutors have claimed in court, arguing that the suspect should remain jailed while awaiting trial.
Teixeira appeared in court in Massachusetts on Thursday, where a judge declined to issue a ruling on whether the 21-year-old should be held behind bars or released on house arrest. Teixera is charged with espionage, with the government accusing him of sharing classified Pentagon documents with his gaming friends on a Discord server, from where they leaked onto the broader internet earlier this month.
Prosecutors are arguing that the defendant is a flight risk and a threat to national security. As it is unknown how many more files Teixera is in possession of, they claimed in a court filingon Thursday that “hostile nation states” could “offer him safe harbor and attempt to facilitate his escape from the United States.”
Teixeira’s defense lawyers ridiculed this argument during Thursday’s hearing, calling it “little more than speculation,” according to the Associated Press.
However, the prosecution also claimed that the former national guardsman is still a threat, as he owns a “high-capacity AK-style weapon,”and “had regular discussions about violence and murder” on his Discord server. Late last year, the government pointed out, Teixeira made a social media post stating that he would like to “kill a [expletive] ton of people” in the name of “culling the weak minded.” He also, they claimed, talked about converting a minivan into an “assassination van.” (More lies)

North Korea hasaccused US President Joe Biden of being senileafter he threatened to annihilate the DPRK in the event of a nuclear attack, denouncing the US for its “extreme”and “hostile” policies.

Senior North Korean official Kim Yo-jong, the sister of leader Kim Jong-un, issued a harsh statement condemning Washington and Seoul on Friday, singling out comments from Biden following a meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in the US capital this week.
During a joint press conference alongside Yoon, Biden said a nuclear strike by North Korea would “result in the end of whatever regime” is in power there, stressing the need to “reinforce extended deterrence and respond to the advancing DPRK nuclear threat.”
Kim suggested the statement was a sign of “the man’s senility,” warning that Biden’s “threatening rhetoric” would someday prompt a response from Pyongyang.
“It may be taken as a nonsensical remark from the person in his dotage who is not at all capable of taking the responsibility for security and the future of the US, an old man with no future,as it is too much for him to serve out the two-year remainder of his office term,” she added.
The North Korean party official also cited the creation of the new Nuclear Consultative Group (NGC) by the US and South Korea, which is intended to “strengthen extended deterrence” and enhance cooperation on nuclear planning.
“The formation of a ‘Nuclear Consultative Group,’ the regular and continuous deployment of US nuclear strategic assets and the frequent military exercises” by Washington and Seoul have created an “environment in which we are compelled to take more decisive action,” Kim said.
As part of the stepped-up military coordination between Washington and Seoul, Biden and Yoon announced that the US would deploy nuclear-armed submarines and bombers to the Korean Peninsula, hoping the move would deter future weapons tests by the DPRK.
North Korea has carried out an unprecedented number of missile launches in recent months, saying it would continue to advance its capabilities in response to continued US and South Korean military drills in the region. Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned such exercises as rehearsals for an invasion,though US officials insist they are purely defensive.
