The bible is interesting because it talks about stories that demonstate a relationship between the supernatural world and human reality.
There is a supernatural spirit world that we don't understand. Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Scientist) tried to explore this with spiritual guided healing but the rules of this relationship are very confusing and easy to mess up. It doesn't help that demons can take on fake identities including names like Jesus and Yushua or other bible names to perpetrate evil, so when you think you are asking for God's help you can get a wrong number. Catholic exorcism is sort of right too except they don't finish the job properly and the demon spirit just goes right back in.
Demonic possession does have physical symptoms other than voices in the head, for example persistant neuropathy can be a sign of possession.
The demon spirits that pester humans are a fairly minor level of evil that has persisted in the world to this point.

The angels were tasked to assist (most) human souls and they do intervene if they can, but now they are currently working to change the world to create a place where people aren't needing constant devine intervention because being an angel is a tedious thankless job and they will deserve their time in the sun too.
