some times there is a 'consent decree' in such cases which basically absolves the perpetrators of horror on the public from any further obligations, and prohibits anyone who becomes a class member of the class action from having anything more to sue about, also sometimes it prohibits anyone else form sueing for the same thing (though I may be wrong about that).
I remember years ago Verizon 'settled' and the settlement involved wortheless voucher, which were essentially coupons for their service worth a tiny amount.
and absolved them of further liability for I think it was . . . well I'm not sure what it was (privacy).
coupons for their service was the settle ment, less than a 5th of one months service, something they would give away anyway to entice people to sign up.
and the lawyers got a windfall.
