well they are more technically using ancient pagan symbols that they do not understand or care about and are too lazy to actually research things, just like a majority of the people who are in any cult. The people are just as easily manipulated. So yes many current so called christian practices have their roots in ancient pagan practices.

The idea in christianity that causes this problem is called Sola Scriptura. This has allowed the Bible to be the only source for all debate, the problem is that the answers are usually found in other texts but just like dinosaur bones the devil put them there to challenge faith. All cultures have partaken of that war and blood shit, no one is innocent, and that is part again of the problem with a majority of so called holy people is they are just as broken and flawed as everyone else. But again group think allows this to fester.
I think you are mostly spot on. The issue with all faiths is that if you can create loopholes in things that I would suppose be absolute like killing but hey we just don't like the way they look so it's fine we need their land anyways. I will admit I have a hard time with this idea that some deaths are justified and some good and some people are beyond redemption and healing, and then I remember what we fight and there is a blood lust there because I do not know what to do with these folks or what ever you want to call them that have done things to the world that so much pain exists. These are all very hard topics that need to be thought upon and what our role in this new world will be as captors or liberators. Replace one bad idea for another. I don't want a theocratic society for the exact reasons you mentioned there is no clear cut answer and I will be damned if I will follow someone knowing only part of the story. You can not argue with someone of any faith that says their ideas are infallible because of god. Hard thoughts you are having as well.
