It's not about the golf business as much as it's about real estate. Golf courses add tremendous amenity and value to residential land around golf courses, particularly lots which have frontage on the course. The premiums developers garner from the sale of golf course lots more than compensates for the cost of golf course construction which makes the golf course business essentially free.
