Russia warns of ‘retaliation’ for Ukrainian attack on Kremlin
The authorities have accused Kiev of targeting Putin’s residence with drones
Russia reserves the right to retaliate“anywhere and anytime it deems necessary” in response to the drone attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence, the Kremlin has said.
Officials said two Ukrainian drones attempted to strike the Kremlin early on Wednesday morning, but the raid was thwarted.
The president was not hurt in the “terrorist attack,” and the Kremlin complex did not suffer any damage, Putin’s office said.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti that the Russian leader was not in the Kremlin when the raid happened. He added that Putin was working at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence near Moscow on Wednesday.
The attack took place as Russia prepares for Victory Day celebrations on May 9. The centerpiece of the commemoration of the victory against Nazi Germany and its allies in World War II is the annual military parade on Red Square, just outside the Kremlin walls.
Putin and other top officials, as well as foreign guests, will attend the event. Peskov said the parade would take place as scheduled.
(Ukraine just crossed a line there is no coming back from, wait and see, it won’t be long. Especially since Putin early on vowedhe had no intent to capture or kill Zelensky. They just violated the rules of the special military operation that were set out in the beginning, this was not a war for Russia but a mission.)

Videos purport to show Ukrainian drone attack on Kremlin
Two drones targeted the Kremlin residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Moscow has said
Purported footage of a Ukrainian drone strike targeting the Kremlin on Tuesday night has surfaced on a local Telegram channel.
The video shows plumes of white smoke rising into the night sky over the Grand Kremlin Palace, a 19th century building serving as the official working residence of the Russian president.
No sound can be heard in the video but witnesses claimed on Telegram that they heard at least one loud blast resembling “thunder rumbling.” People on the Kremlin embankment also reportedly saw sparks rising into the sky over the Kremlin wall.
An unverified video circulating on social media also shows a fire on the roof of the Senate Palace, the president’s second working residence in the Kremlin. Flames can be seen rising near the top of the roof.
Another unverified video published on Telegram purported to show the moment one of the drones struck the Senate Palace. The footage shows the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) approaching the building at a low altitude, before blowing up right over its dome. The blast appeared not to have dealt any significant damage to the building, as even the flagstaff with the presidential banner remained in place after the attack.

Kiev has denied responsibility for the strike. Ukraine “does not have any information about the so-called night attacks on the Kremlin,”President Vladimir Zelensky’s spokesman, Sergey Nikiforov, told journalists.
In late March, however, the head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council,Aleksey Danilov, claimed on Twitter that Ukraine possesses “dozens of models”and “thousands of UAVs,” including those with a range of “more than 3,000 kilometers.”

Moscow bans use of drones
Restriction comes after two Ukrainian drone attacks launched overnight targeting the Kremlin
Moscow’s authorities have banned the unauthorized use of drones, the Russian capital’s mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced on Wednesday. The measure was introduced shortly after an unsuccessful Ukrainian attempt to attack the Kremlin residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Writing on Telegram, Sobyanin said that the flying of UAVs in the Russian capital would be prohibited starting from today, with an exception being made for drones used with the authorities’ approval.
“This decision was taken in order to prevent unauthorized use of UAVs, which could hamper the work of law enforcement agencies,” the mayor explained, reminding his audience that anyone who breaks this rule could face administrative and criminal liability.
The announcement was made as the Kremlin press service reported that overnight Kiev forces attempted to strike Putin’s residence by using two drones. The service noted that the Russian leader was not hurt by what it described as “a terrorist act,” with the UAVs being neutralized by electronic warfare measures. Neither did the drones cause any other casualties or damage, it added.
Since the start of the conflict more than a year ago,Kiev forces have repeatedly resorted to drone attacksto target Russian civilian and military infrastructure facilities, including those located far from the countries' border.
In late AprilUkraine claimed it was behind the attack on an oil terminal in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, which destroyed four oil tanks, according to local authorities. Kiev stated then that the raid was meant to lay the ground for a much-talked-about Ukrainian spring counteroffensive.
That same month Russian media reported that a drone, allegedly of Ukrainian design and carrying about 17kg of explosives, crashed not far from Moscow after running out of fuel.
