Matt Rosendale didn't need to talk to Trump. Matt knew the plan. By this time, he was counting numbers in his head to figure-out, who'd get to cast the last needed vote. When MTG was handing the phone, Rosendale already knew what he was doing.
After that call and before the next vote, Rosendale actually stepped away from the chamber to be absent when his name was called. This action resulted in his fellow Montanan, Ryan Zinke, getting to give the "vote", which gave McCarty the Speakership. It was a big favor Matt did from Ryan. Didn't everyone get that!
