#OTD in 1975, the commissioning ceremony for USS Nimitz (CVN-68) was held in Norfolk with remarks from President Gerald Ford. Ford served on an aircraft carrier during WWII and his namesake USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) was commissioned in 2017.
