The protests erupted Tuesday over a bill that would ban gender modification procedures for minors.

SB 14 had already passed the Senate and was being heard in the House. Both SB 14 and it’s companion bill, HB 1686, filed by Rep. Tom Oliverson, R-Cypress, had already received hours of testimony and debate.

Hundreds of people came to the capitol expressing their support for the bill and sat quietly in the upper gallery of the House chamber. After hours of waiting in the chamber, the bill was brought to the floor and proceedings were disrupted. Eyewitnesses described their experience to The Center Square.

Michelle Evans, legislative director for Texans for Vaccine Choice, who was in the House upper gallery, said, “After being in the gallery for more than six hours, SB14 was finally laid out. Almost immediately, chanting started throughout the gallery and two known trans activists on either side of our group joined in on the disruption. Banners were then unfurled and the Speaker called for the gallery to be cleared, not just the protestors, but everyone,” she told The Center Square.

She posted a video on Twitter depicting the incident.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in the Netherlands on Thursday for a surprise visit to the city that is home to the International Criminal Court, which has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy’s visit to The Hague, which hosts the ICC and the United Nations’ top judicial organ, the International Court of Justice, came a day after he denied that Ukrainian forces were responsible for what the Kremlin called an attempt to assassinate Putin in a drone attack.

On a visit to Helsinki on Wednesday, Zelenskyy told reporters: “We didn’t attack Putin. We leave it to (the) tribunal.”

While Zelenskyy’s visit to the ICC was not officially confirmed, the court’s staff on Thursday raised a Ukrainian flag next to its own flag outside the building.

Ukraine’s Air Force Command said early Thursday that Russian forces attacked multiple Ukrainian regions overnight with Iranian-made drones. Air raid sirens sounded across Ukraine overnight and explosions were reported in the southern city of Odesa and the capital, Kyiv.

The head of the private military company Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said on Wednesday that the Ukrainian forces had begun their counterattack in Artyomovsk (known in Ukrainian as Bakhmut) and are threatening to overwhelm his undersupplied troops.

Wagner forces advanced more than 200 meters on Wednesday, sustaining 116 fatalities and leaving less than three square kilometers of the Donbass city in Ukrainian possession, Prigozhin said in an audio clip shared online.

However the PMCs leader then announced that the Ukrainian military has “…begun its counterattack,” with “…unlimited manpower and ammunition.”

Meanwhile, he painted a dire picture of Wagner’s own situation, saying “ammunition shortages are acute” and his troops have enough rounds remaining “for just a few days.”

The Russian Defense Ministry is refusing to issue artillery ammunition to Wagner, “ignoring our every request,” Prigozhin claimed.

Wagner forces have been at the forefront of street fighting in Artyomovsk, known by Ukrainians as Bakhmut, a key rail and road junction in Donbass. Kiev has funneled tens of thousands of soldiers to the city, even as Wagner and other Russian troops established fire control over all the supply roads, leaving the Ukrainians half
