After months of calls, requests, and demands for her to resign, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is stepping down. Her resignation is effective June 1.

Gardner, the city’s first African American chief prosecutor, tweeted her resignation letter to city residents at 3:44 p.m. In the letter, she drew a connection to her presence in power and the Missouri Legislature’s efforts to take over both the circuit attorney’s office and turn control of the city’s police force back over to the state.

The circuit attorney had faced legal battles on numerous fronts via Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s drive to remove her from office and indirect criminal contempt cases, and a dwindling roster of prosecutors in her office due to resignations. It’s a situation at least one St. Louis judge dubbed a “rudderless ship of chaos.”

US presidential candidate condemns Kremlin drone attack

Washington needs to stop the “deranged” escalation of the Ukraine conflict, said RFK Jr.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday denounced the drone attack targeting the Kremlin, which Moscow has blamed on Washington. The Democrat challenging President Joe Biden for the presidential nomination also reminded Americans how his uncle helped prevent nuclear war with the USSR.

“Imagine how we would respond if Russian-backed forces launched a drone strike on the Capitol. We must stop these deranged attempts to escalate the war,” Kennedy tweeted.

“After successfully defusing the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John Kennedy warned against ever again forcing Russia to choose between national humiliation and nuclear war. We should heed his advice,” he added.

The 1962 standoff almost resulted in a shooting war between the US and the USSR, involving atomic weapons. It was resolved when Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev agreed to a withdrawal of Soviet nuclear missiles from Cuba and US missiles from Türkiye.

RFK Jr. announced his presidential candidacy last month, somewhat leveraging his family name as the nephew of President Kennedy and son of his brother Robert. He outlined his position on US-Russia relations in an interview published on Wednesday, arguing that Washington has repeatedly lied to Moscow and trampled its “red lines.”

Kennedy also accused the US establishment of sacrificing hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian lives in a proxy war against Russia, while condemning the Russian “invasion” and noting that his own son had volunteered to fight for Kiev. Washington needs a leader who can think like JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis and “put yourself in the other guy’s shoes,” he said.

Two drones were disabled by Russian air defenses while attempting to strike the Russian president’s residence early on Wednesday. President Vladimir Putin was elsewhere and no one was injured in the incident. Kiev has officially denied any responsibility.

The Kremlin described the incident as an attempted assassination and said Russia reserved the right to retaliate against the perpetrators at a time and in a manner of its choosing. On Thursday, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed Kiev’s denials as “laughable” but said the true culprits were overseas.

“We know full well that decisions to carry out such terrorist actions are made not in Kiev, but in Washington,” Peskov told reporters.

Turkish opposition is gay – Erdogan

Ahead of a crucial election this month, the incumbent president argued that only his party can protect family values

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused his political rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, of being “LGBT,” ahead of next week’s elections. Erdogan’s government views LGBT ideology as an American and European “religion,” alien to Turkish morals.

“We know that Mr. Kemal is an LGBT person,” Erdogan told a rally in the city of Giresun on Thursday. “CHP is LGBT, IYI party is LGBT, HDP is LGBT,” he continued, listing off the political factions in Kilicdaroglu’s six-party National Alliance bloc.

“As the People’s Alliance, we are against this,” he declared, referring to his own political bloc. “Family is sacred to us. A strong family means a strong nation. No matter what they do, God is enough for us."

Erdogan has accused Kilicdaroglu and his allies of being pro-LGBT before, and made the same speech almost word-for-word at a rally in the town of Rize on Wednesday.

Kilicdaroglu is not an outspoken supporter of gay rights, but has promised to reinstate the Istanbul Convention if elected.

Signed by 45 countries plus the European Union in 2011, the convention aimed to strengthen legal penalties for violence against women, but Türkiye withdrew in 2021, stating that it had been “hijacked by a group of people attempting to normalize homosexuality.” This was likely a reference to the treaty’s listing of transgender women, who are biologically male, as women.

“They are trying to…ungender the whole of our society under the name of LGBT,” Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said of Kilicdaroglu and his allies in February. “If Kilicdaroglu wants to ungender himself and his colleagues, let him do so,” Soylu continued. “Family is important for us, woman is important for us, man is important for us.”

In a radio interview last month, Soylu claimed that the “LGBTQ” designation “includes the marriage of animals and humans.” He went on to describe LGBT ideology as a “religion,” and LGBT activists as “completely under the control of America and Europe.”

Kilicdaroglu has largely avoided personal attacks on Erdogan and Soylu, instead making heavy use of pro-Western rhetoric in his speeches. The 74-year-old former civil servant has promised to immediately restart EU accession talks if elected, and to implement reforms demanded by Brussels.

International art trafficking operation leads to 60 arrests and over 11,000 objects recovered

LYON, France – Law enforcement has arrested 60 people and recovered 11,049 stolen artefacts as part of a major international art trafficking crackdown across 14 INTERPOL member countries.

Codenamed Pandora VII, this operation was led by Spain (Guardia Civil), with the support of Europol and INTERPOL.

This iteration of the annual Pandora operation consisted of an operational phase which ran between 13 to 24 September 2022 and saw thousands of checks carried out at various airports, ports and border crossing points, as well as in auction houses, museums and private houses.

Two cyber patrol weeks were organized in the course of Pandora VII, in May and October 2022 respectively, with over 8,495 checks being conducted online and 4,017 stolen goods seized.

Some 130 investigations are still ongoing, as a result of which more seizures and arrests are anticipated as investigators around the globe go after those spoiling and destroying cultural heritage.

Operational highlights

Pandora VII led to the recovery of the following stolen artefacts, among others:

77 ancient books in Italy which the Italian Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage seized from an online marketplace. The books had been stolen from the archives of a monastery.

A Roman marble bust of a woman which was recovered by the Civil Guard in Sevilla, Spain. The sculpture is believed to represent Salonia Matidia, the niece of the emperor Traian.

3,073 ancient coins, seized from an online sales platform by the Polish Police Service. An additional 117 Dacian and Roman coins were also recovered by Romanian law enforcement after an archaeological site was looted.

48 religious sculptures and other religious artefacts were recovered by the Portuguese authorities. These objects are believed to have been linked to a series of 15 robberies carried out in churches across northern Portugal between 1992 and 2003. An additional 41 religious and liturgical objects (icons, altarpieces mouldings, etc.) were also confiscated by the Hellenic Police after a house search in Greece.

13 archaeological artefacts (jewellery, among other things) from the Russian Federation were seized at a post office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A high school teacher has been exposed secretly filming up the skirts of female students, after a teenage pupil bumped into a whiteboard and found a hidden mobile phone pointed at her.

Physics teacher Eric Wong, 28, will be sentenced next week after admitting to two charges of filming a person's private parts without consent at Cammeraygal High School at Crows Nest on Sydney's north shore.

Court documents said NSW Police officers found up to 300 videos and 90 pictures of girls in school uniform in his classroom, including 'up-skirt' photos and images focused upon their breasts.

The Sydney Morning Herald, citing a police fact sheet, reported that video examples included Wong '(walking) up next to or behind the female students and whilst talking to them or observing them undertaking their science experiment…. discreetly positions his mobile phone in position to film private parts.'

Mr Wong's LinkedIn profile shows he had worked as a chemistry and physics teacher for the NSW Department of Education for six years and graduated from the University of Sydney.

Leith Dianne Woods was on trial in the WA District Court defending claims she committed multiple child sex offences, including indecently dealing and sexually penetrating the 16-year-old while she was a teacher at a regional school in 2012.

The court was told the pair first met outside of school when the girl was in Year 10 and Woods was a former coach for the Swan Districts Football Club's women's team.

Woods became her teacher at school later that year.

Brennan, Clapper to Testify Before Weaponization Committee on Hunter Biden Laptop Letter

Two former top intelligence officials will testify this month before the House Judiciary Committee’s weaponization of the federal government panel about the statement they signed in 2020 discrediting the bombshell story about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper will appear before the panel in behind-closed-door interviews on May 11 and May 17, respectively, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Breitbart News.

Brennan and Clapper were two of the most well-known signatories on the infamous statement that 51 former intelligence officials issued in October 2020, weeks ahead of the last presidential election. The statement cast doubt on a New York Post story about then-candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

The Post’s story, written by now-Breitbart News Political Editor Emma-Jo Morris, revealed damning information about the Biden family’s business dealings based on information found on an abandoned laptop of Hunter’s that the Post had obtained.

The story had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” Brennan, Clapper, and 49 others wrote at the time, while acknowledging they had no evidence to support the false notion.

Revelations of the pair’s forthcoming testimonies come after another signatory of the statement, former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell, testified last month to the panel that now-Secretary of State Antony Blinken had prompted Morell and others to author the statement.

Blinken at the time was serving as a paid senior adviser to the Biden presidential campaign, and Biden later relied on the misleading statement in a presidential debate as a way to dismiss the Post’s story.

Biden said during the October 22 debate:

Look, there are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what this, [President Trump’s] accusing me of is a Russian plan. They have said this — this has all the characteristics — four — five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he’s saying is a bunch of garbage. Nobody believes it except him and his good friend Rudy Giuliani.

The testimonies will occur in the form of behind-closed-door transcribed interviews, which both the panel’s Republican and Democrat members are able to attend.

In addition to the interviews with Brennan, Clapper, and a number of others, the Judiciary Committee will question Mark Pomerantz, a former prosecutor in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, on May 12.
