US presidential candidate condemns Kremlin drone attack
Washington needs to stop the “deranged” escalation of the Ukraine conflict, said RFK Jr.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Thursday denounced the drone attack targeting the Kremlin, which Moscow has blamed on Washington. The Democrat challenging President Joe Biden for the presidential nomination also reminded Americans how his uncle helped prevent nuclear war with the USSR.
“Imagine how we would respond if Russian-backed forces launched a drone strike on the Capitol. We must stop these deranged attempts to escalate the war,” Kennedy tweeted.
“After successfully defusing the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John Kennedy warned against ever again forcing Russia to choose between national humiliation and nuclear war. We should heed his advice,” he added.
The 1962 standoff almost resulted in a shooting war between the US and the USSR, involving atomic weapons. It was resolved when Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev agreed to a withdrawal of Soviet nuclear missiles from Cuba and US missiles from Türkiye.
RFK Jr. announced his presidential candidacy last month, somewhat leveraging his family name as the nephew of President Kennedy and son of his brother Robert. He outlined his position on US-Russia relations in an interviewpublished on Wednesday, arguing that Washington has repeatedly lied to Moscow and trampled its “red lines.”
Kennedy also accused the US establishment of sacrificing hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian lives in a proxy war against Russia, while condemning the Russian “invasion” and noting that his own son had volunteered to fight for Kiev. Washington needs a leader who can think like JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis and “put yourself in the other guy’s shoes,” he said.
Two drones were disabled by Russian air defenses while attempting to strike the Russian president’s residence early on Wednesday. President Vladimir Putin was elsewhere and no one was injured in the incident. Kiev has officially denied any responsibility.
The Kremlin described the incident as an attempted assassination and said Russia reserved the right to retaliate against the perpetrators at a time and in a manner of its choosing. On Thursday, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed Kiev’s denials as “laughable” but said the true culprits were overseas.
“We know full well that decisions to carry out such terrorist actions are made not in Kiev, but in Washington,” Peskov told reporters.

Ukraine (Whines &) labels EU bank ‘sponsor of war’
Kiev claims Hungary’s largest lender is reluctant to leave Russia
The Ukrainian National Corruption Prevention Agency (NCPA) has designated Hungary’s OTP Bank an “international sponsor of war”due to the preferential lending terms the bank was allegedly providing to the Russian military, the agency claimed on Thursday. (NCPA was created by Soros to attack those going against corruption in the country)
According to the watchdog, the Hungarian lender continues to operate in Russia and “serves more than 2.2 million customers and is represented in more than 1,850 settlements” in the country.
OTP, which is Hungary’s largest commercial bank and Central Europe’s largest independent lender, is also one of the 50 biggest banks in Russia, according to the NCPA.
Kiev’s anti-corruption agency has accused the lender of providing “preferential lending conditions to [members of] the Russian military,” including deferred payments on loans.
According to NCPA’s press release, OTP Bank is the 24th institution that the agency has designated an “international sponsor of war.”
Last year, OTP said it was winding down corporate lending in Russia in compliance with international sanctions and was also considering a possible withdrawal from the Russian market.
In 2021, OTP’s Russian and Ukrainian businesses accounted for 15.8% of its consolidated net profit, according to the lender’s data.
Ukraine’s central bank earlier accused several European banking groups of being reluctant to exit Russia. In March, the regulator’s spokesperson claimed that some EU lenders, including OTP, were still developing their business in the sanctioned country.

German police investigate media that reported Zelensky plans
A Berlin newspaper was accused of “betrayed secrets” by revealing the Ukrainian leader’s upcoming visit
German authorities on Thursday opened a “betrayal of secrets” probe into a newspaper report about a possible visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which quoted an unnamed source within the Berlin police.
Berlin Police Chief Barbara Slowik denouncedthe anonymous official as “damaging the reputation of the Berlin police in such a shameful way,” at home and internationally.
“The fact that newspaper headlines are given higher priority than the reliability of the Berlin police and the trust placed in us is in no way tolerable,” Slowik said, adding that she has asked the state police to investigate the case as “betrayal of [official] secrets.”
Police did not name the outlet in which the unnamed official was quoted, but the French news agency AFP identified it as Berliner Zeitung. The story allegedly contained “classified details” of the security operation being planned to safeguard the Ukrainian leader.
“At no time did the Berlin police officially provide any information that endangered the state visit,” the department said in a statement, explaining that their press office “only confirmed the impending operation in response to inquiries based on previous media reports.”
Berliner Zeitung had reported on Wednesday that police were preparing for a visit by Zelensky in mid-May. The Ukrainian leader was in Helsinki at the time. On Thursday, he resurfaced in the Netherlands, as part of his European tour to drum up support in the conflict against Russia.
Zelensky’s already twitchy securityhas been elevated after Wednesday morning’s drone attack on the Kremlin. Moscow declared it a “premeditated terrorist action” and an attempted assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin, warning Kiev that it “reserves the right to retaliate in a manner, place and time of our choosing.”
Ukraine has denied any knowledge or participation in the attack, just as it had with the attacks on the Crimean Bridge, or the assassinations of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky and journalist Darya Dugina. The Ukrainian postal service quickly issued a stamp design showing the Kremlin in flames, however. (Arrogant idiots always gloat)
