Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton Will Wear Rainbow Helmet to Miami Grand Prix in Protest of Parental Rights in Education Law
Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton will wear a rainbow helmet in the Miami Grand Prix to protest Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law.
Hamilton, F1’s only black driver, regularly wears a rainbow helmet when racing in countries with controversial LGBT laws.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Hamilton compared Florida to Saudi Arabia, where same-sex sexual activity is illegal.
“I stand by those within the community here. I hope they continue to stand firm and push back. I’ll have the rainbow on my helmet. It’s no different to when we were in Saudi,” Hamilton said.
When asked about if he thinks F1 should boycott the state, Hamilton said that decision is not up to him.
“It’s not for me to decide something like that,” Hamilton said. “I did hear and have read about some of the decisions that have been made in government here and I do not agree with it and I do not support it. I really do continue to stand with the LGBTQ community and I’m wearing a rainbow flag on my helmet this weekend and I just really want to continue to support the community here and let them know I stand with them and I hope they continue to fight against it.”
“It’s not the people of Miami that are making these decisions, it’s the people in government and that’s the issue,” he added. “I think, hopefully, all I can do – the sport is going to be here whether I am or not – but the least I can do is just continue to be supportive and just being here and having that on my helmet, hopefully that speaks well to the subject.”
F1 drivers are prohibited from speaking about social justice issues at events.
The state legislature passed the original Parental Rights in Education bill, or HB 1557, in March 2022.
Under the policy, teachers cannot provide lessons on “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to elementary school-age children in third grade or younger. Teachers are prohibited from discussing the topics “in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”
The law has been nicknamed “Don’t Say Gay” by opponents, despite the word “gay” not appearing in the text at all.
The law currently applies to public school instruction up to third grade, but under a new expansion ready to be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, it will prohibit this type of instruction through eighth grade. It will now also include charter schools and private pre-kindergarten.
In addition to expanding the grades that the law applies to, the bill states that “it shall be the policy of every public K-12 educational institution that is provided or authorized by the Constitution and laws of Florida that a person’s sex is an immutable biological trait and that it is false to ascribe to a person a pronoun that does not correspond to such person’s sex.”
It will also make it easier to have age-inappropriate books removed from school library shelves.

In a recent interview with Sam Bushman of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), Retired Sheriff Richard Mack reveals how, as a Board member of America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLDS), he realized that renegade AFLDS Board members had launched a vendetta against Dr. Gold, with which he disagreed. His interview is below.
Mack describes how, in December 2021, he agreed to become a Board member of AFLDS because he “loves Dr. Gold and what she did standing for health freedom in front of the U. S. Supreme Court.” (22:30)
Later, things began to go awry, and he realized he had become part of “an animosity that was aimed at Dr. Gold.” (23:45) He admits he was influenced by rogue board member Joey Gilbert who abruptly turned against Dr. Gold shortly after she was released from a politically-driven J6 incarceration. Mack recounts that the more he learned about AFLDS, the more he realized this organization was “Dr. Gold’s corporation”, “Dr. Gold’s brainchild”, and Dr. Gold was “the one who raised the money.” (24:00)
After several months, Mack realized that the Board faction with which he was associated was “now using the money that [Gold] raised to crucify her publicly.” (24:20)
Sheriff Mack wanted to act with “honor and honesty.” Although Pastor Jurgen agreed, others convinced them to slander Dr. Gold publicly and attempt to forcibly remove her from AFLDS in court. Joey Gilbert, did in fact, file a lawsuit against Dr. Gold in Florida’s Middle District, but that suit, which was based on provable falsehoods, was dismissed by a federal judge.
To counter this damage and revert the organization back to its original mission, Dr. Gold was then forced to sue three individual Board members in Arizona, where the nonprofit was originally incorporated: Joey Gilbert, Pastor Jurgen Matthesius, and Sheriff Richard Mack. (24:45)
Sheriff Mack elaborates in his April 7th, 2023 statement addressed “to whom it may concern”:
“I took the position [as an AFLDS Board member] because I honestly felt I could help bring both sides together. I made such recommendations to all our way-too-many attorneys, other staff and to the Board of Directors. None of them were interested. I warned them several times that litigation would hurt us all and destroy us financially. My warnings fell on deaf ears.”

The editor of Guardian Australia, Lenore Taylor, has been forced to correct 'incorrect' information about Sky News Australia – the second correction about the network published in one week – during a podcast billed as a discussion on the 'consequences of lies'.
Guardian Australia’s editor, Lenore Taylor, has been forced to correct the record after false claims about Sky News Australia were spread in a Guardian podcast about misinformation.
Ms Taylor was a guest on The Guardian’s podcast ‘Full Story’, in an episode titled ‘Fox News and the consequences of lies’, where she falsely claimed Sky News Australia was the broadcaster of a program which ran on an entirely different channel.
The podcast reported on an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) ruling where Ms Taylor made the claim “a very right-wing evangelic Christian broadcasting operation” program featured on the Sky News Australia network.
“Interestingly there was also this separate finding against Sky, in regards to a US show, from a very right wing evangelic Christian broadcasting operation, which they seem to have just broadcast through the Sky News Australia network and which was ruled to have breached accuracy rules,” she said.
The former Sydney Morning Herald correspondent and former chair of the Walkley Board who has worked for Guardian Australia since it launched has had to walk back the ‘incorrect’ comments in a correction published to The Guardian’s website on Friday afternoon.
“This podcast was amended on 5 May 2023. An earlier version of this podcast referred to adverse findings by the Australian Communications and Media Authority having been made against Sky News Australia in respect of programs containing misinformation concerning Covid-19. This was incorrect.
"The programs were broadcast by Foxtel Cable Television Pty Limited on the Daystar channel,” the correction reads. The Guardian also amended the episode to remove the false information.
