Mexican President to Show China Proof of Fentanyl Smuggling In Response to China’s Denial

On Friday, the President of Mexico stated that his country would send China with evidence of illegal fentanyl shipments from China to Mexican drug cartels. This statement came after China denied that any such smuggling was taking place.

It was recently discovered that the synthetic opioid responsible for hundreds of daily overdose deaths in the United States was shipped to Mexico from China in a container that was intercepted in the Pacific port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated.

“We already have the evidence,” said Lopez Obrador.

Obrador wrote to Xi Jinping back in March, requesting assistance in reducing the influx of fentanyl.

In response, the Chinese foreign ministry asserted that no fentanyl was being illegally transported between China and Mexico.

On Friday, Obrador told reporters that he would be sending the same appeal for assistance to Beijing.

“In a very respectful manner, we are going to send this information to reiterate the request that they help us,” he said during the press conference.

BBC reported:

Mexican Navy Secretary Rafael Ojeda said the container intercepted in Lázaro Cárdenas had packages weighing 34-35kg (75 pounds) with traces of fentanyl and methamphetamine hidden in fuel resin. The cargo had left the Chinese city of Qingdao and passed through Busan in South Korea before reaching Mexico.

Fentanyl is up to 50 times more powerful than heroin. The US Drug Enforcement Administration says 67% of the 107,375 US deaths from drug overdoses or poisonings in 2021 were linked to fentanyl or similar opioids. Fentanyl is linked to more deaths of Americans under 50 than any other cause, the DEA says.

The US authorities blame Mexican drug gangs for supplying fentanyl to users across the US. Last month three sons of drugs kingpin “El Chapo” – members of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel – were charged in the United States with fentanyl trafficking, but only one of them is in custody. Their father Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán is serving a life sentence in the US.

President López Obrador has said fentanyl is not produced in Mexico but bought by the drugs gangs from suppliers in Asia.

Last month Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said “there is no such thing as illegal trafficking of fentanyl between China and Mexico”.

“China has not been notified by Mexico on the seizure of scheduled fentanyl precursors from China,” she said. Drugs listed in schedules are subject to various official restrictions.

Mao Ning said the widespread fentanyl abuse in the US was a problem “completely ‘made in USA'”.

Jill Biden and Hunter’s Daughter Show Support and Solidarity For Ukraine with Colors of Their Outfits at King Charles III’s Coronation

Jill Biden on Friday arrived in London for King Charles’ coronation while her feeble husband stayed behind.

Joe Biden skipping King Charles III’s coronation – and choosing to send his trashy wife in his absence – broke a century of precedent a historian told The New York Post.

Hunter Biden’s daughter, Finnegan, joined Dr. Jill in London on taxpayer dime.

Dr. Jill arrived to London in $1,150 Dior slingback heels (she forgot her pantyhose again) and a bright pink outfit.

Jill and Finnegan attended King Charles’ coronation at Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

They coordinated their outfits with the Ukrainian flag.

Dr. Jill and Finnegan showed their support and solidarity for Ukraine with colors of their dresses at King Charles III’s coronation.

IRS Whistleblower Will Share His Allegations Against AG Merrick Garland Lying to Congress

White House scandals spokesman Ian Sams issued a statement in April denying Joe Biden was behind the political interference in the investigation of First Son Hunter Biden.

In April an IRS whistleblower accused the Biden administration of interfering in Hunter Biden’s ongoing criminal investigation. The statement by Sams came just hours after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre declined to comment on the whistleblower complaint.

The whistleblower exposed a deep coverup of the Hunter Biden investigation that involved Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The New York Post reported on Thursday night the Attorney General Merrick Garland IS the “senior” Biden official mentioned by the whistleblower who is preventing Hunter Biden from being criminally charged.

On Friday the legal counsel for the IRS whistleblower told Just the News that his client will share his allegations with Congress.

Just the News reported:

The legal counsel for an IRS whistleblower who has alleged that the Department of Justice has been working to undermine an investigation into Hunter Biden said Friday that he expects his client “will be able to share his allegations with Congress.”

In late April, Just the News reported that an IRS whistleblower was alleging that federal prosecutors had engaged in “preferential treatment and politics” to prevent tax charges from being filed against the president’s son.

The whistleblower’s allegations appear to contradict sworn testimony from Attorney General Merrick Garland that Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who has been heading up the investigation, had full authority to pursue the case without fear of political interference.

Speaking on the “Just the News, No Noise” television show on Friday, Empower Oversight President Tristan Leavitt, who is representing the anonymous whistleblower, revealed that congressional leaders have received the allegations with interest and are likely to hold hearings to air his client’s claims.

Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith “has identified that their committee on House Ways and Means is committed to thoroughly hearing these allegations, and so we look forward to a process,” Leavitt told host John Solomon and cohost Amanda Head.

13,000 Evacuated As Over 100 Wildfires Burn Across Alberta

More than 100 wildfires, some of which are classified as out of control, rage across the western Canadian province of Alberta on Saturday morning, prompting officials to evacuate 13,000 people.

As of 1130 ET, there are 102 active wildfires in Alberta, of which 35 are classified as out of control, according to data from the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard.

On Friday, Stephen Lacroix, the managing director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, told reporters the wildfire situation in the province was "evolving and extremely fluid."

"Many communities are affected by the fires with over 13,000 Albertans evacuated from their homes … we are working with Federal, provincial and municipal partners to deliver emergency support throughout this evolving and extremely fluid situation," Lacroix said.

Here are some of the scenes from Alberta.

Nigerian Senator, Wife Jailed in UK for Organ-Harvest Plot

A senior Nigerian politician and his wife were handed prison sentences Friday for conspiring to transport a street trader to the UK as part of an organ-harvesting plot.

Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, and his wife Beatrice were convicted in March of conspiring to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old man to be a kidney donor for their sick daughter.

Ike Ekweremadu, 60, was sentenced to nine years and eight months by a judge at London’s Central Criminal Court. Beatrice Ekweremadu, 56, was jailed for four and a half years and 51-year-old Dr. Obinna Obeta, described by prosecutors as a medical “middleman” in the plot, received a 10-year sentence.

The case was the first to convict suspects of an organ-harvesting conspiracy under the UK’s modern slavery laws.

Passing sentence, judge Jeremy Johnson said that “people-trafficking across international borders for the harvesting of human organs is a form of slavery.”

“It treats human beings and their body parts as commodities to be bought and sold. It is a trade that preys on poverty, misery and desperation,” he said, telling the defendants: “You each played a part in that despicable trade.”

Prosecutors said the couple was behind the recruitment of the man at a Lagos street market, and that they arranged for the victim to provide a kidney to their 25-year-old daughter, Sonia, in an 80,000-pound (nearly $100,000) transplant operation at a London hospital.

They said the victim, who was transported to London in February 2022, believed he was being taken to Britain to work. When he discovered the truth, he fled and went to police.

Meanwhile a doctor at the Royal Free Hospital had become suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the proposed operation, and decided it couldn’t go ahead. The Ekweremadus then tried to find more potential donors in Turkey, prosecutors said.

Kidney donations are legal in the UK, but it’s a criminal offense to pay someone for doing so.

The victim, who can’t be named for legal reasons, told the trial that he did not agree to donate a kidney and “would never” have done so.

“My body is not for sale,” he said.

The victim, who now lives in the UK, said members of his family in Nigeria had been visited and told to “drop” the case.

Pakistan switching to yuan to buy Russian oil – media

The nations agreed a major oil deal earlier this year

Pakistan is likely to pay for shipments of crude oil from Russia in Chinese yuan, local media reported on Saturday, citing government sources. The first cargo of 750,000 barrels is expected to dock as soon as in June.

An unnamed official from the Ministry of Energy told The News International that the transaction would be facilitated by the Bank of China.

The sources haven’t provided details about the mode of payment or the exact discount that Pakistan will receive, saying that making the information public is not in the interest of either buyer or seller.

“Russia will provide URAL crude in the test cargo and most probably Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) will be tasked to refine the Russian crude,” the official said.

Other sources told the media that Pakistan has agreed a per-barrel price of around $50-52, compared to the G7 price cap on Russian oil of $60 per barrel.

In December, the EU, G7, and their allies introduced a collective ban on Russian seaborne oil exports, along with a price cap of $60 per barrel. Another embargo banning almost all imports of Russian oil products, as well as introducing price caps on diesel and other petroleum products, kicked in on February 5.

In January, Moscow and Islamabad reached “conceptual” agreements on supplies of Russian oil and petroleum products to Pakistan. The deal is expected to provide relief to cash-strapped Pakistan, which is facing a balance of payments crisis and critically low foreign exchange reserves.

Police Get a Green Light to Use Force Against Unarmed Individuals Who Have Already Surrendered or Complied

“The old police motto to ‘protect and serve’ has become ‘comply or die.’”

(TRI) The U.S. Supreme Court has once again refused to hold police accountable for using force on unarmed individuals who have already surrendered or complied with police orders. Despite a series of high-profile incidents involving the use of unnecessary and excessive force by police against unarmed individuals, the Court declined to narrow the scope of qualified immunity granted to officers who assault non-violent suspects who have ceased to resist arrest.

Attorneys for The Rutherford Institute and Cato Institute had filed a joint amicus brief before the Supreme Court in Salazar v. Molina, challenging a lower court ruling that essentially gives police a green light to punish and harm suspects solely based upon their initial nonviolent resistance or flight. The legal coalition warned that the ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which granted qualified immunity to a police officer who tased a non-violent suspect in the back after he lay down to surrender, undermines public safety by discouraging suspects from surrendering or complying with police commands.

“The old police motto to ‘protect and serve’ has become ‘comply or die,’” said constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of Battlefield America: The War on the American People. “This is how we have gone from a nation of laws—where the least among us had just as much right to be treated with dignity and respect as the next person (in principle, at least)—to a nation of law enforcers (revenue collectors with weapons) who treat ‘we the people’ like suspects and criminals.”

In March 2014, around 2:00 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy in Zapata County, Texas, tried to pull over Juan Carlos Salazar for speeding. However, Salazar accelerated and led police on a high-speed chase for approximately five minutes. After two vehicles pulled out in front of Salazar and blocked his way forward, Salazar stopped his car, got out, raised his hands, and then lay face-down on the ground with his arms above his head to surrender. There was no indication that Salazar had any weapon or was violent. But within seconds, a sheriff’s deputy ran up and fired his taser at Salazar’s back while he was still lying prone on the ground.

‘Grim reaper’ spotted at King Charles’ coronation: ‘Who’s he looking for?’

Who invited this creep?

Eagle-eyed Twitter users spotted what appears to be a cloaked figure scurrying in the background of King Charles III’s coronation, likening the unknown individual to the grim reaper.

A person wrapped in hooded, black robes carrying a long rod, akin to a scythe, was caught dashing in front of the golden arches within the cathedral Saturday.

“Anyone else just notice the Grim Reaper at Westminster Abbey?” a person wrote on Twitter, grabbing 2 million views.

“I noticed him! Who’s he looking for?” one person responded.

“Anyone else see the Grim Reaper make an appearance at the Coronation?” tweeted another, as users quipped it could be Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, in disguise. She was reported to be staying home in California.

The footage even reached TikTok, where one at-home viewer scored 8.8 million views on the “reaper’s” quick cameo.

“NAH IT CANT JUST BE ME THAT SAW IT,” the caption read, in part.

“Diana getting her revenge,” offered one viewer.

“Dianas invite defo arrived,” joked another.

“Lizzy came back with backup this time,” chimed in someone else.

“Lizzy wants her crown back,” agreed another.

Bill Barr warns of ‘chaos’ and ‘horror show’ if Donald Trump is re-elected

Former Attorney General Bill Barr issued a stern warning about the possibility of former President Trump — his ex-boss — returning to the White House.

“It is a horror show, you know, when… he’s left to his own devices,” Barr told the City Club of Cleveland in Ohio on Friday, Fox News reported. “If you believe in his policies, what he’s advertising is his policies, he’s the last person who could actually execute them and achieve them.”

The nation’s former top lawman said even if you agreed with Trump’s ideas, the former president did “not have the discipline” to put them into effect.

“He does not have the ability for strategic thinking and linear thinking or setting priorities or how to get things done in the system.” Barr continued. “He will deliver chaos, and if anything lead to a backlash that will set his policies much further back than they otherwise would be.”

Despite being under indictment and facing multiple state and federal investigations Trump remains far and away the 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner, with a yawning lead in polls and large pool of early endorsements from party leaders.

U.S. To Fast-Track $500M Military Package To Taiwan: Report

The United States is reportedly fast-tracking a $500 million military aid package to Taiwan as top officials grow concerned about the pace of Chinese aggression against the island nation.

The Biden administration is planning to use authority that it has relied on to expedite aid to Ukraine, according to Bloomberg. The Defense Department will take from stockpiles of U.S. weapons and ammunition under the Presidential Drawdown Authority to give to Taiwan.

The package would be the first sent to Taiwan using the drawdown authority. The Biden administration is looking to streamline U.S. aid to Taiwan because of assessments that China is undeterred in its ambition to retake the island nation.

The 2023 National Defense Authorization Act allocated $3 billion in annual military aid to Taiwan, according to Defense News. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the Senate Armed Services Committee in March that the Pentagon intends to send $1 billion in aid to Taiwan with the Presidential Drawdown Authority.

The Biden administration has already sent tens of billions of dollars-worth of aid to Ukraine using the fast-track authority since Russia’s invasion last year. Between January 2022 to February 2023, the United States has committed nearly $80 billion in aid to Ukraine, according to a tracker at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. About $48 billion of that aid is military, $4 billion is humanitarian, and $27 billion is economic.

Diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington have grown strained in recent years, souring even further after a Chinese spy balloon was identified over Montana and floated across the continental United States in February before the U.S. military shot it down over the Atlantic Ocean.

The Chinese foreign ministry called the balloon saga “totally accidental” and expressed “strong discontent” at the U.S. shooting down the spy apparatus.

“In these circumstances, for the United States to insist on using armed force is clearly an excessive reaction that seriously violates international convention,” Beijing said in a statement. “China will resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprise involved, and retains the right to respond further.”

While the U.S. and China have grown increasingly hostile, China and Russia have made moves to strengthen their ties. The cooperation between Beijing and Moscow has fueled concern that the world is moving closer to broader instability and conflict, according to Bloomberg.

Ohio Democrat Senator Took Thousands Of Dollars In Donations From Pharma Companies At Center Of Opioid Crisis

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) took hundreds of thousands of dollars from three drug companies at the center of the opioid epidemic in the U.S.

According to FEC financial reports cited by the New York Post, Brown raked in more than $200,000 from political action committees associated with Cardinal Health, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen since 2003. The three pharmaceutical giants paid out a $26 billion settlement to settle thousands of individual lawsuits from states and local governments. Ohio is also one of the states hardest hit by the opioid epidemic.

According to FEC filings, Brown took in a total of $144,500 in contributions to his campaign and leadership PAC, America Works PAC. He raised $85,000 from Cardinal Health, $56,500 from AmerisourceBergen, and $1,500 from McKesson. The latest donation was a $2,500 donation from Cardinal Health on September 21. The New York Post further reported that he took in $54,100 from lobbyists who worked for the three pharmaceutical distributors, including $5,600, the legal maximum, from a McKesson lobbyist in 2020 and again in 2021.

Separately, individual employees donated another $40,025. Cardinal Health Chief Information Officer Mark MacNaughton was a frequent small-dollar donor. Former Cardinal Health CEO George S. Barrett donated a total of $15,400 between 2011 and 2019, all in large amounts. Theodore Frank of McKesson donated $1,000 to his 2018 campaign. Rita Ersfeld Norton of AmerisourceBergen gave him $1,000 in 2017.

Together, Cardinal Health, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen account for 90% of the U.S. supply chains for drugs and medical supplies. But the companies have allegedly been complicit in the proliferation of opioids; the New York Post reported that for more than a decade, the three pharma giants failed to track suspicious orders or increases in opioid use among purchasers, in spite of doctors potentially criminally overprescribing the drugs.

The three companies, along with Johnson & Johnson, settled a $26 billion lawsuit with 49 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and thousands of municipalities in February 2022. In a joint statement in February, the three companies announced that, beginning on April 2, 2022, they would pay out more than $19.5 billion over the next 18 years: Amerisource is set to pay out $6.1 billion; Cardinal Health, $6 billion; and McKesson, $7.4 billion. The settlement dealt with 46 of the 49 states; Alabama, Oklahoma, and Washington State refused the settlement. West Virginia settled previously. The Cherokee Nation also settled separately, and the remaining Native Americans had reached an agreement in principle at the time.

At U.N.’s Request U.S. Funds Program to Support Displaced LGBTQI+ Refugees, Asylees

The U.S. will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars—and up to $1 million—to support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) refugees and asylum seekers in two or more countries. The goal, according to the Biden administration, is to create global coordination, advocacy, and knowledge-sharing on protecting and assisting refugees that identify as LGBTQI+. It is worth noting that the government’s official Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) buries the real purpose of the allocation by classifying the grant as “Humanitarian Research.” The money will be disbursed by the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM). The U.S. is financing the initiative at the request of the United Nations (U.N.) to promote evidence-based decision making on priority protection, enhance tools to improve the agency’s performance and encourage other “humanitarian stakeholders” to follow recommendations.

To receive taxpayer dollars nonprofits and institutions of higher education must submit proposals that respond to several research questions involving LGBTQI+ persons, according to the grant announcement. The first one is, “what are best practices for the ethical, safe, and confidential collection, management, and reporting of data on displaced LGBTQI+ persons?” The second question asks, “what are the experiences and needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Queer (LGBQ) women, trans men, and intersex persons in situations of displacement and in humanitarian contexts, and what are best practices for reaching and assisting them?” That is followed by “what is the intersectionality between the health (including mental health) needs of LGBTQI+ persons and displacement?” Finally, the State Department asks potential grant recipients “what are best practices for assistance to meet these health needs?”

The U.S. was essentially directed to launch the project after a U.N. probe determined that displaced and stateless LGBTQI+ persons remain significantly under-identified and under-documented in humanitarian response efforts. The U.S. is already the U.N.’s largest donor to the tune of $12 billion, but the famously corrupt world body specifically called on Uncle Sam to invest in further research to identify best practices and develop guidelines on working with displaced and stateless LGBTQI+ persons. The U.S. government was also directed to undertake research on the intersection of health and forced displacement of LGBTQI+ persons and safer data collection methods. “The experiences of LGBTQI+ persons in displacement are not homogenous, and, as such, the best practices and policy responses to address their protection concerns and access to assistance and durable solutions will also not be homogenous,” according to the State Department, which stresses the need for the new program by revealing that most research overwhelmingly focuses on “the experiences of cisgender gay and queer men and trans women.”

The Royal Family’s 800-year relationship with Britain’s Jews, in 7 historical tidbits

As the UK’s chief rabbi and Israel’s president attend King Charles’ coronation this Shabbat, a look at the ties that have historically bound the Crown to its Jewish subjects

When Queen Elizabeth II’s seven-decade-long reign ended with her death at 96 last September, her son, Charles, immediately became King.

On Saturday, however, King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, will be formally crowned at Westminster Abbey.

He’ll be the 40th monarch to be crowned at the abbey in a line that stretches back 900 years to William the Conqueror’s coronation on Christmas Day 1066.

And Britain will do what it arguably still does best: put on a diamond-drenched, ermine-laden and golden-hued royal show topped with all the pageantry and ceremony, pomp and circumstance and ancient traditions it can muster.

It’s a Christian service – largely unchanged for the past 1,000 years – in which the King will take the oath, be “anointed, blessed and consecrated,” and have St. Edward’s Crown, which was made for King Charles II in 1661, placed upon his head.

But there’ll also be some Jewish details — such as Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis participating in the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Shabbat morning, a Jewish tailoring firm providing uniforms, and three Jewish composers penning new music in the king’s honor — befitting the community’s close and comfortable relationship with the Royal Family.

The Long-Feared Eviction Tsunami Is Here

Pandemic-era protections are gone and rental assistance has dried up. Eviction filings increased by nearly 80 percent last year compared to the year before.

Now, however, the protections are gone and the dam has burst. “Numbers are up everywhere,” said Peter Hepburn, associate director at the Eviction Lab and an associate sociology professor at Rutgers University, Newark. In the 10 states and 34 cities that the Eviction Lab tracks, eviction filings increased by nearly 80 percent last year compared to the year before.

The wave is here, and Hipolita Bernandez is struggling not to be pulled under by it. Her husband, who, like her, is undocumented, was detained two months ago by immigration authorities. That’s left her without his income as a groundskeeper for private homes. Her own income has also taken a hit: She makes food and sells lunch plates to workers, but she made many of those connections were through her husband.

As a result, she hasn’t been able to pay her $890 monthly rent for the two-bedroom apartment in Houston where she lives with her three children for the last two months. Her landlord hasn’t responded just by sending her eviction papers; her electricity is included in her rent, and the landlord cut it off. One day, the landlord sent workers to put a lock on her door, although she threatened to call the cops if they did and they left. To put together enough money to pay what she owes and hold onto her home, she’s been searching for work as a cleaner and going to churches to get food from their pantries.

INSANITY: Biden Regime to Give $332.5 Million Tax Dollars To Left-Wing Non-Profits & Democrat Cities To Help Settle Illegal Aliens to US

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the National Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program would distribute $332.5 million in humanitarian relief to areas of the United States that are providing temporary shelter to illegal immigrants awaiting immigration proceedings.

The money will be distributed to 35 various local governments and nonprofits.

More than 6.3 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

“Today, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program’s National Board announced the allocation of $332.5 million to assist communities receiving noncitizens released from custody as they await the outcome of their immigration proceedings,” DHS said in a news release.

“This allocation, through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program-Humanitarian (EFSP-H) program, will go to 35 local governments and service organizations. This is just one component of DHS’s comprehensive, multi-agency plan to manage increased encounters at the Southern Border and support communities when the Title 42 public health Order lifts.”

“This first round of funding was focused primarily on the needs of border communities due to the urgencies they are confronting. Several interior cities also received funding. The City of New York received the most of any interior city by a significant margin given its challenges,” it added.

DHS has announced that later this year, through the Shelter and Services Grant Program, an additional $360 million will be made available for humanitarian aid.

Supreme Court grants release of high-risk paedophile amid lack of prison rehab programs

A high-risk paedophile will be released into the community without having undergone rehabilitation treatment due to a lack of individualised programs for offenders in the South Australian prison system.

Key points:

The paedophile refused to attend group rehabilitation sessions while in prison

Individualised treatment is not available to paedophiles while in custody

There was a greater likelihood of the man receiving "appropriate rehabilitation" in the community, the Supreme Court has been told

In the South Australian Supreme Court, Justice Julie McIntyre said the man — who has completed his sentence — would not be able to access the 15-month group course at the in-prison Sexual Behaviour Clinic (SBC) until late 2023 or early 2024.

The court was told that the man refused to participate in group sessions, and there was no option to do individual treatment within the prison system.

"It is highly regrettable that the rehabilitation options available to him in custody are so constrained," Justice McIntyre said in her decision to release him.

In April 2019, the man was jailed for procuring a child to commit sexual activity and breaching a previous bond for possessing child exploitation material.

He was given a 38-month sentence with a non-parole period of 24 months.

Once he completed his sentence, he was deemed to be at "high risk of reoffending" and was placed on a two-year supervision order so he could be monitored in the community.

He breached that order by failing to comply with his reporting obligations, and was arrested.

The paedophile was released again in August 2022, but he breached a second supervision order for making death threats against corrections staff in March.

This prompted Attorney-General Kyam Maher to apply to the Supreme Court for man to remain locked up to ensure the community was protected.

Forensic psychiatrist Dr Narain Nambier told the court he found the paedophile was in "complete denial" about his sexual interest in children and posed a high risk of reoffending without treatment and rehabilitation.

"Dr Nambier said that he appeared to consider himself a victim of his life circumstances and appeared unwilling to cooperate with any form of treatment, particularly sex offender treatment," Justice McIntyre said when summing up.

Profits before people: Corporate greed set to continue

FOR MANY AUSTRALIANS, the post-pandemic economic outlook is dire, with the cost of living skyrocketing but wages remaining comparatively stagnant, on top of rising unemployment and a housing crisis. The less fortunate among us are facing crippling poverty and homelessness.

In the meantime, the RBA, which managed to keep interest levels at record lows throughout the Morrison regime, has suddenly become trigger-happy, lifting rates at every available juncture (barring one) since Labor came into power last May.

Then there are the corporations that pocketed millions in JobKeeper subsidies designed to keep people employed, sacked staff anyway, paid their CEOs eye-watering bonuses and then, far from demonstrating the requisite 30 per cent downturn in turnover, posted massive profits.

The combined effect of excessive JobKeeper subsidies, together with the previously maintained, rock-bottom interest rates, also pushed inflation three percentage points higher than it needed to be, according to new research.

At the same time, however, some companies are posting record profits while simultaneously bemoaning any government policies aimed at easing soaring cost of living pressures.

This week, we saw Pharmacy Guild president Trent Twomey actually moved to tears over the Federal Government’s proposed changes to the rules governing the cost of prescription medication. According to Twomey, despite this latest move not yet being implemented, it is responsible for two pharmacies going under and probably the end of life as we know it. Oh, and also, apparently, Labor Party senators and MPs "don't give a shit".

Unfortunately, Twomey wasn't quizzed about the fact that pharmacies were one of the few sectors to remain open during the pandemic. Nor did he volunteer information on the peak body's earlier admission that the COVID crisis did not harm their businesses even slightly and actually increased overall profits, all while many still pocketed JobKeeper payments.

The Albanese Government's (GP-backed) changes to PBS medications will lower costs and improve quality of life for many vulnerable Australians subsisting below the poverty line, by reducing pharmacy visits from an average of 12 to six times a year for chronic disease sufferers, benefiting the most vulnerable Australians and creating $1.2 billion in savings for patients.

Reducing the number of pharmacy visits for those with chronic illnesses is hardly likely to cripple the levels of profit Guild members continue to enjoy and is a far cry (pardon the pun) from the billions in assorted Government subsidies and protections doled out to the industry over many years, of which JobKeeper is only a small part.

However, Twomey also did not pause his teary outburst to illuminate us of the Government's assurance to the Guild that any savings will be invested directly back into pharmacies or that, regardless of this assurance, the Guild will continue to fight the move, anyway.

Of course, the pharmacy sector is not alone in crying poor, pocketing government handouts but then raking in the money.

As previously reported on IA, Harvey Norman, Crown Resorts, Seven West Media and News Corp were among the many huge organisations that enjoyed massive JobKeeper handouts without the requisite downturn in revenue.
