He was a professional and very high quality individual with many friends, and very few enemies. My warmest condolences to his family. John will be greatly missed!

Look who’s missing. Alongside President Putin, the leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Belorussia and, last but not least, Armenia will participate in the Victory Parade on May 9 in Moscow on Red Square, celebrating the defeat of the Nazis. By launching waves of attacks against Ukraine on the eve of the parade, Putin is turning the holiday into a loyalty test and an endorsement of his war effort. But one leader will be conspicuously absent from the parade: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. He was invited but won’t attend. Team Biden should sit up and take notice, especially after it invited Armenia to its Democracy Summit, snubbing Azerbaijan. Clearly, it is Pashinyan, not Aliyev, who stands with Putin. Your periodic reminder that Armenia is a satellite of Russia and an ally of Iran.
