California Launches ‘Snitch Hotline’ to Report ‘Hate Acts’ Including Name-Calling

The state of California has launched a ‘snitch hotline’ that people are supposed to use to report ‘hate acts’ including name-calling.

This is the sort of thing you expect to hear about on a liberal college campus, not in a massive state with tons of problems.

California is experiencing shrinking population for the first time in its history as residents flee for other states and this is what they’re focusing on?

The Blaze reports:

California launches new snitch hotline to report ‘hate acts’ and ‘hate incidents’ — including ‘name calling’

California has launched a new hotline for residents to report “hate acts.”

Last Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and the California Civil Rights Department announced the launch of CA vs Hate. Through the hotline, Californians will be able to snitch on their neighbors for committing “hate acts,” which the service explicitly states do not always include violence.

“A hate incident is a hostile expression or action that may be motivated by bias against another person’s actual or perceived identity,” the website states. “Perpetrators may be motivated by different discriminatory biases, including, but not limited to; bias based on race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender, including gender identity.”

Some examples of “hate incidents,” according to the website, are “refusing service,” “derogatory name calling,” and bullying.

The new hotline, Newsom explained, is “an unequivocal message that hate will not be tolerated” in California.

“We stand firm for a California for All and it is important that we hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and provide resources for those individuals victimized by hate crimes,” he said in a statement. “Now, Californians have another tool to ensure that not only justice is served, but that individuals have access to additional resources to help deal with the lingering wounds that remain after such a horrendous crime occurs.”

Blinken sent Russian disinformation claim to organizer of Hunter Biden laptop letter, email shows

Blinken has tried to distance himself from origins of discredited letter but his email shows he delivered evidence for key passage that turned out not to be true.

As a Biden campaign adviser, Secretary of State Antony Blinken emailed to the organizer of the now-discredited Hunter Biden laptop letter the key news article used by 51 U.S. intelligence experts in fall October 2020 to falsely insinuate the computer's contents were Russian disinformation, according to documents obtained by Just the News.

The email from Blinken to former acting CIA Director Michael Morell is set to be made public as early as Thursday in an interim report by the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. Thst report among other things concludes the now-infamous laptop letter was a political operation to benefit Joe Biden that was disguised to look like an intelligence security warning.

The report, which corroborates earlier reporting by Just the News, also shows that as Morell gathered former ex-intelligence officials to sign the letter and put their name behind the unsubstantiated claim of Russia interference he also boasted to some that the effort was buoying the Biden campaign and its chances of defeating then-President Donald Trump in the fall election.

"The more former intelligence officers the better," Morell emailed a former CIA officer he was sharing the letter with in hopes of getting people to sign. "Campaign will be thrilled."

But the congressional investigation's most impactful findings involve Blinken, now America's top diplomat,

Just the News reported last month that testimony gathered by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan revealed that Morell organized the letter to benefit Joe Biden and that his role was "triggered" by a call from Blinken in October 2020 shortly after the Hunter Biden laptop emerged in the New York Post and efforts began to censor stories about it.

Since that revelation, Blinken has tried to minimize his role, telling reporters it was not his idea to do the letter without challenging the veracity of Morell's account.

The new email shows Blinken played a key role one evening in mid-October 2020, delivering a USA Today article that would eventually be quoted in the letter in the one passage that suggested the Biden laptop was Russian disinformation. The email was sent a few hours after Blinken called Morell.

The subject line of Blinken's email at 10:53 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2020 read: "A tabloid got a trove of data on Hunter Biden from Rudy Giuliani. Now, the FBI is probing a possible disinformation campaign."

In his testimony to Congress, Morell confirmed he received the email from Blinken.

The committee report, slated to be released soon, is expected to note that Blinken included a reference to the Biden campaign's rapid response director.

"Notably, at the bottom of Blinken's email was the signature block of Andrew Bates, then-Director of Rapid Response for the Biden campaign," the report reads. In that role, Bates "was charged with defending" then-Vice President Biden "and his team against attacks on the campaign trail, while also employing an aggressive offensive strategy against President Trump and his team."

China Retaliates After Canada Expels Its Diplomat Over 'Political Interference'

Canada and China have mutually expelled diplomats in tit-for-tat moves after Canada first booted a Chinese diplomat based in Toronto, Zhao Wei, which happened Monday.

The Canadian government has accused him of political interference, allegations first revealed in a leaked report written by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). The CSIS report "found an accredited Chinese diplomat in the country had taken efforts toward targeting opposition lawmaker Michael Chong and relatives who may be in China." Beijing has called it "lies".

"The alleged targeting took place after Chong sponsored a motion to condemn China’s treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority group," according to CNN. "The intelligence was first reported by Canadian newspaper the Globe and Mail earlier this month."

The episode comes following widespread reports as well as accusations from Western officials that Chinese intelligence and diplomatic officials have engaged in intimidation campaigns abroad, aimed at political dissidents and their families.

In Chong's case, he was apparently targeted in an intimidation campaign due to his having spent years spearheading Canada’s legislative efforts slap an official label of "genocide" on China's human rights abuses, especially connected with treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed to hold China accountable, telling reporters on Tuesday, "we will not be intimidated. We will continue to do everything necessary to keep Canadians protected from foreign interference."

Beijing was swift in its retaliation, with the foreign ministry responding Tuesday by decrying the "smear campaign against China" rooted in "ideologically based political manipulation” that is "nonsensical" and "lies".

Biden Admin Creates New Disinformation Office To Oversee The Rest

With the Biden administration elevating disinformation to a national security threat, as codified in its first-of-its-kind National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, published in June 2021, new government (and non-government) offices dedicated to fighting foreign disinformation are cropping up everywhere.

To oversee organizations like the Pentagon's new Influence and Perception Management Office and at least four organizations inside the Department of Homeland Security alone, the Director of National Intelligence has created a new office - the Foreign Malign Influence Center, The Intercept reports.

In testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee Thursday, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines for the first time mentioned the creation of the Foreign Malign Influence Center, or FMIC. “Congress put into law that we should establish a Foreign Malign Influence Center in the intelligence community; we have stood that up,” Haines said, referring to legislation passed last year. “It encompasses our election threat work, essentially looking at foreign influence and interference in elections, but it also deals with disinformation more generally.”

Established on September 23 of last year after Congress provisioned funding, the FMIC was only announced publicly after The Intercept inquired. The group, operating under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), 'enjoys the unique authority to marshal support from all elements of the U.S. intelligence community to monitor and combat foreign influence efforts such as disinformation campaigns," according to the report.

That said, it isn't just monitoring foreign threats… as the FMIC is also authorized to monitor "the public opinion within the United States."

"What we have been doing is effectively trying to support the Global Engagement Center and others throughout the U.S. government in helping them to understand what are the plans and intentions of the key actors in this space: China, Russia, Iran, etc.," said Haines, who made clear that the effort to counter disinformation has expanded beyond just elections and Russia.

"The threat to U.S. democratic processes and institutions from foreign malign influence is persistent and dynamic," according to an undated FMIC fact sheet noted by Just the News. "Informing efforts to counter it requires constant attention, a whole-of-government approach, support from the private sector, and engagement from the public."

More via Just the News,

Though its name starts with "foreign," FMIC's congressionally determined objective includes protecting American "public opinion," suggesting the potential for policing domestic narratives.

Journalism participants in an Aspen Institute exercise before the 2020 election, intended to prevent the spread of "hack-and-dump" disinformation from foreign governments, were explicitly told their suspects were "foreign or other adversarial entities," meaning domestic sources.

"It's the basic rhetorical trick of the censorship age: raise a fuss about a foreign threat, using it as a battering ram to get everyone from congress to the tech companies to submit to increased regulation and surveillance," Twitter Files journalist Matt Taibbi wrote Friday. "Then, slowly, adjust your aim to domestic targets."

EU country arrests 26 people for celebrating Victory Day

Marking anything other than “Europe Day” in Latvia is now a crime against democracy

More than two dozen residents of Latvia were arrested on Tuesday for violating the law against celebrating the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany. The EU and NATO member police even seized a “Russia” jacket from a man in a wheelchair, and arrested another for wearing Soviet medals in public.

By 11:30 pm local time, Latvian police reported a total of 26 arrests, 38 misdemeanor citations and four criminal cases, according to the news outlet Delfi.

While most of the cases were recorded in Riga, the capital, multiple arrests also took place in Daugavpils. In one incident, a senior citizen described as “looking too young to be a veteran of WWII” showed up wearing a jacket with Soviet medals. When police told him to take it off, he resisted arrest.

Five people were arrested for laying flowers with “symbols of military aggression” at the Freedom Monument in the Daugavpils Victory Park. They were charged with “public use of symbols glorifying militaristic aggression and war crimes.” In the same park, police forced a man in a wheelchair to remove his jacket because it said “Russia.”

Two Russian-speaking men were detained at the Dubrovinsky Park in Daugavpils after giving an interview to TV3. Their sin was expressing the opinion that the fascists had returned to power in Ukraine, with EU support.

Last month, the Latvian parliament banned Victory Day celebrations as “belittling and undermining the values of Latvia as a democratic and national state, including the division of society, the glorification of war, military aggression and totalitarianism, as well as a false interpretation of historical events.”

Latvians nonetheless turned out in droves to lay flowers at cemeteries and memorials. Most of the arrests and citations involved placing flowers at “prohibited places,” where Soviet monuments once stood before the government in Riga had them destroyed.

Along with its Baltic neighbors Estonia and Lithuania, Latvia joined the EU and NATO in 2004. About a quarter of its 1.8 million residents are Russian-speakers, who often face discrimination. The Baltic states used to be part of the Russian Empire until 1918, and of the Soviet Union in 1940-41, and again between 1945 and 1991. The Baltic republics have insisted that the Soviet period amounted to illegal occupation, and have glorified those who collaborated with Nazi Germany as patriots.
