McCormick: What can we do as a collective, as communities, outside of government? The empowerment of the people.

Judge Lung: Gov't is not always the solution. I think of a church in Colorado that hosted an anti trafficking organization with survivors. I was astounded by the lack of education about human trafficking by the community.

Don't just find out about the problem but be a solution. I appreciate you bringing up a faith-based approach.

McCormick: There is a bigger power than the gov't for sure.

Hounakey: The more we prioritize caring for people, loving people, the better. It is those people in Grand Rapids, Michigan in my community who saw my potential. They say they love God, they did what is best for me.

Leading in order to serve people.

McCormick: I am worried about legislation with unintended consequences. Vast numbers of children being harmed on way to our border. 80% of women being raped who are migrating here because of our bad policy.

What we have failed to legislate has lead to 100,000 women being raped each month.

And 85,000 children in our custody are missing

What we are doing is causing harm. In government, what have we caused?

Murray: Prevention is key. The key vulnerabilities and addressing that - period poverty leads into different manners of abuse. I know women who have been willing to sell their bodies just for sanitary products. Equip NGOs to address those vulnerabilities.

McCormick: We mean well but there are real consequences to bad policy. I do not disparage anyone who wants to pursue the american dream. But there are predators and these migrants are being preyed upon because of our horrible border policy.

There will be more death and rape because of our disasterous policy.

Smith: 85,000 missing unaccompanied minors.

Radewagen: How has human trafficking changed in the human trafficking. How did covid and ukraine war affect human trafficking

Vandenberg: La Strata suggested that paths are created for migrants to come into a country and work. Needs to be a thoughtful consideration what people need to wait for war to end, asylum to be granted.

The people who are highly vulnerable need to be protected.

Programs that make them less vulnerable are the way to stop trafficking.

Judge Lung: Covid was a massive issue. When you take away access to school and church and everything that connects to community then you can't get information out about human trafficking.

School counselors, nurses, can investigate but covid and everything was locked down, then human trafficking is amplified because of isolation. Massive impact and a tragic shame.

Hounakey: In India and Ghana, NGOs are helping women learn skills to learn a living without having human trafficking.

I am a woman born in Togo. It is a disadvantage because I am not allowed to go to school.

Financial empowerment helps fight desperation. Total desperation for food, water, - children will do anything to survive the next hour.

What we are doing to fight for morality?

Murray: Girls are almost disposable. This is a huge problem we need to address from the prevention angle.

No online learning in a lot of world. No electricity. Children were sent to work. That has been normalized now and NGOs still fighting this from Covid.

If we come together as a community we can fight human trafficking.

Smith: we invite anyone who has information about human trafficking to call our hotline

Smith: military during George W. Bush did a EO about prostitution UCMJ. (military were visiting Juicy Bars) it was amazing how well it worked. All because of a tip. If you know anything please tell us.

The Honorable Cindy Dyer: Trafficking has changed in last few years: Covid, Ukraine, Climate change, diminished access to justice have contributed to risky waves of migration and increased online sexual exploitation of children.

The State Departmentโ€™s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (the TIP Office), which I have the honor to lead, is advancing the United Statesโ€™ global efforts to combat human trafficking through a โ€œ3Pโ€ framework โ€“ the prosecution of traffickers, the protection of victims, and the prevention of human trafficking. We address the 3 Ps collectively by objectively analyzing government efforts; engaging in strategic bilateral and multilateral diplomacy; targeting foreign assistance to build capacity of foreign governments and civil society; and advancing federal anti-trafficking policies through interagency coordination. We also partner with international and civil society organizations, human trafficking survivors, and the private sector to advance the fight against human trafficking. It is this โ€œfourth Pโ€ for partnership that strengthens the effectiveness of the other โ€œ3Psโ€ in the fight against human trafficking.

Our most recent TIP Report included narratives for 188 countries and territories, and its introduction focused on the importance of engagement with survivors of human trafficking. The TIP Report is one of our most powerful tools to encourage governments around the world to improve their anti-trafficking efforts. Ensuring it remains accurate, objective, and effective is among my highest priorities for the TIP Office.

Johnny Walsh: USAID supports stand-alone C-TIP projects as well as integrating C-TIP

interventions into our wider development portfolio using the 4Ps framework. 4Ps of Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnerships

USAIDโ€™s approach is survivor-centered and trauma-informed

Smith: USA is included in the TIP report: have we stopped screening migrants for human trafficking in the usa?

Dyer: I share your concern for the children. The challenges of irregular migration and offering lawful migration pathways are a key way to address vulnerabilities. Many of these individuals are fleeing utter desperation. At Dept of State we are protecting the vulnerable. I have to defer to DHS on whether the migrants are being screened.

Smith: Do we have any idea of how many of these migrants are trafficked? (coyotes, cartels)

Smith: D.R. Congo - Chinese Communist Party owns the cobalt mines for electric vehicles & children are enslaved to mine the cobalt, which is sent to China for processing.

12 and 13 year old kids being sold for a meal.

Dyer: PRC has a lot of influence in DR Congo. Not just children. We are using interagency task force and forced labor task force to look at goods made with forced labor.

I have a phone call so taking a break
