Judge Paulus Van Der Sloot died in 2010 (or just exited stage left?)
Father of Suspect in Aruba Case Is Arrested
The Associated Press
June 24, 2005
ORANJESTAD, Aruba, June 23 - The father of a Dutch teenager already in custody in connection with the disappearance of a young Alabama woman was arrested on Thursday and identified as a suspect.
Paul van der Sloot, 52, a justice official on the island, was arrested after he and his wife, Anita, left the prison where his son, Joran, 17, is being held, Mrs. van der Sloot said.
Searches have produced no trace of Natalee Holloway, 18.
The authorities have described all five men currently in custody in the case as suspects. But it was not clear if each was suspected in Ms. Holloway's disappearance or if some were suspected only of a lesser crime, like withholding evidence.
Joran van der Sloot has been in custody since June 9, along with two Surinamese brothers, Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18. Steve G. Croes, 26, a disc jockey on a party boat, is also in custody.
Father of man in Aruba mystery dies
ORANJESTAD, Aruba, Feb. 11 (UPI) – Paul van der Sloot, the father of a man questioned in the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway on the island of Aruba, has died, officials say. He was 57.
The father of Joran van der Sloot was at the Tierra del Sol estate playing tennis Wednesday when he collapsed and could not be resuscitated by emergency service staff, Expatica reported.
Paul van der Sloot, an Aruba lawyertraining to be a judge, had been repeatedly questioned
(training?)
"My intuition as a researcher told me that Mr. Van der Sloot knew more about it, but wanted to protect his son, which is natural. His attitude struck me as tense, for instance when I referred to Natalee being dead. His response was,'Who says she's dead? There is no evidence'"

Peru’s government announced Wednesday that authorities issued an order allowing van der Sloot, who has been serving a 28-year prison sentence in the country, to be temporarily extradited to the U.S. to face federal charges stemming from an alleged plot to extort money from Holloway’s mother.
In 2010, van der Sloot allegedly offered to reveal the location of her body to Beth Holloway for $250,000, according to the Justice Department.
A federal grand jury indicted him on charges of extortion and wire fraud over the alleged scheme.
Van der Sloot’s attorney Maximo Altez told The Associated Press he plans to fight the order.
