the main reason is that schools are government institutions and because of the idea of the separation of church and state, people have sued to have these books banned.
Interesting. was not aware of that detail will have to look into that. But, my own ignorance of it somewhat mirrors the general populace especially those that still say we are a democracy. So even if it is not enshrined as you say, there have been legal cases that rely on this very concept. There are also examples of where that line is crossed, such as the gay bakery fiascos.
the easiest answer is that if someone has control of a religion and said construction of the heavens can be shown to be more relative to that vs what modern science says the system loses some control. It would also cause people to question what else is true, part of what keeps society in order is the belief that the society is in order. The bigger question that people in this debate lose sight of is that it does not matter what the shape is because no one really knows, and we can at least tell that by the inconsistencies and lies by the mainstream at every level. It is better to say something is up let's investigate than just assuming you know what you think you know.
