No doubt the Templars found the tribe of John the Baptist in their journeys to the Holy Land. Not that long ago, the Gulf Wars inadvertently displaced the small remnant few who still lived in Iraq. Perhaps ISIS did not kill them all in Basra. I pray. Oddly enough, Catholic missionaries who met them as early as the 1600's left them alone. Wonder why? Most of their Priests (tarmida) died in the cholera outbreak in the late 1800's, as they still baptized in the running waters just as John the Baptist did. in my estimation what Writings we have are purposely written to conceal the larger secrets they know. We find remarkable remnants of Christ's message contained in these works. It is thought that Jesus and John the Baptist were cousins. Hence Jesus of Nazareth.

Nasoreans. That is what ISIS calls Christians.

Imagine that! But the tribe of John the Baptist are followers still of John, and believe in no outside affiliation. Jesus, instead opened the door to the Gentiles.
