Emotional faith
Meteorologists like to talk about the feeling temperature. But there are more emotional situations and things.
The disciples said to Jesus: "Therefore we believe that you came from God." Jesus answered them: "Do you believe now?"
βJn 16, 29-33
There is also emotional faith. A person who goes "regularly" to church and to the sacraments often feels that he is religious and has great faith.
Perhaps it was in this context that TomΓ‘Ε‘ HalΓk once came up with the idea that our faith is sometimes too great. Especially the emotional one. It needs to be reduced to a grain of mustard (Lk 17, 5-6), and in this way to match the emotional and real state.
The letter of James boldly challenges: "Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith by my works." (James 2:18) The disciples showed their faith muscles. They knew Moses and the Prophets. They walked with Jesus. They were believers. But when it came to breaking bread, they put their feet on their shoulders.
Only later did they understand that the mustard seed of true faith is more than the tons of emotional faith. And then things started to happen - they healed, gave hope, resurrected. The same is still happening today. With some real faith. Happy dayππ»
