Former LAPD officer accused of sexually assaulting four children dies in custody
A former Los Angeles police officer accused of sexually assaulting four boys, including family members, died in custody Saturday night, according to law enforcement officials.
Paul Razo, 46 — who was charged this month with eight counts of lewd acts upon a child — died at Los Angeles General Medical Center, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
Razo was undergoing treatment “for a pre-existing medical condition,” according to a statement from Lt. Michael Gomez of the sheriff’s homicide bureau. He did not answer questions on whether Razo was undergoing a procedure when he died at 7:24 p.m.
Gomez noted that an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of death.
Razo, who worked for more than 25 years at the Los Angeles Police Department, was arrested May 10 by detectives with the sheriff’s special victims unit. He was accused of sexually assaulting four boys, believed to range in age from 9 to 13, at his Covina home. Two of the boys were his relatives, according to the L.A. County district attorney’s office; the others were the sons of a woman he dated and reportedly regularly spent the night at the home.
L.A. County prosecutors alleged that the assaults took place between 2006 and 2017, when Razo was a member of the LAPD. He left the department in April.
Razo had been awarded the department's Medal of Valor for saving a man from a burning car in July 2016 in Glendora.

Mike Tyson claims that Jamie Foxx suffered a stroke in April 2023, leading to his hospitalization.
During a recent episode of the PBD podcast, Tyson disclosed that the “medical complication” happened while filming his forthcoming Netflix film, Back in Action.
The former boxer expressed that, while he doesn’t have all the details, he knows that a stroke sent him to the hospital. “He’s not feeling well. They said a stroke. I have no idea what happened to him,” Iron Mike said of the 55-year-old. “Hey, listen, we can’t anticipate our next breath. We don’t know when we are gonna die. … After we leave, this bad stuff can happen.”
Tyson, 56, then spoke about why fans and the general public have less information regarding Foxx’s current condition. “If we don’t know about it by now, they don’t want us to know,” he hypothesized.
Along with his impending Netflix movie, Foxx, né Eric Marlon Bishop, was also set to portray the “Baddest Man on the Planet” in a biopic series. However, his casting has hit a roadblock due to his hospitalization. As a result, the New York native asserted that the biopic’s status is now in limbo.
“Well, it was a possibility. I don’t know what’s going to happen now. But, you know, it’s a strong possibility because, Jamie’s closer to my age, so in order to do him, they were going to do what they did with Benjamin Button. They were going to make him look younger.”
Foxx’s daughter Corinne initially shared that her father had suffered a “medical complication.” “We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” the 29-year-old wrote in a statement. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers…The family asks for privacy during this time.”
In early May 2023, his daughter updated the public on Jamie’s condition, revealing that the actor had been discharged weeks ago. “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild,” she typed in her IG story. “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickle ball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”

Rolf Harris, disgraced entertainer, dies aged 93
Rolf Harris, the children’s entertainer and convicted paedophile, has died at the age of 93.
His family said in a statement he "recently died peacefully surrounded by family and friends and has now been laid to rest."
The disgraced performer, who was jailed in 2014 for a series of sex assaults on youngsters, died of neck cancer and “frailty of old age” at his home in Bray in Berkshire on May 10.
Harris had been one of the UK’s most popular entertainers with a career spanning more than 50 years, but his reputation was left in tatters when he was unmasked as a serial paedophile who had carried out sickening attacks on children.
The crimes, which dated back to the 1960s and carried on until the 1980s, took place while he was at the height of his fame.
Grooming of 13-year-old
He was initially arrested as part of the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Yewtree investigation into historic child sex abuse in March 2013, and charged in August of that year.
His trial heard how one of his principal victims was a close childhood friend of his daughter Bindi, whom he had begun grooming when she was just 13.
He molested her for the first time during a family holiday to Hawaii and Australia in 1978.
His other victims included a teenage waitress he fondled during filming of the ITV show Star Games in Cambridge in 1978 and a child actress he attacked in 1986.
A further six women gave evidence as supporting witnesses for the prosecution, telling how they had fallen foul of Harris's unwanted advances.
One was just 11 when he mounted his attack after declaring he would be the first to give her a tongue kiss. Harris also assaulted a mother and daughter moments apart at an art presentation.
Described by prosecutors as a Jekyll and Hyde character, Harris was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault and jailed for five years and nine months.
Sentencing him at Southwark Crown Court, the judge, Mr Justice Sweeney, told Harris: "You have shown no remorse for your crimes at all. Your reputation now lies in ruins, you have been stripped of your honours but you have no one to blame but yourself."
In January 2017, Harris stood trial for a further seven alleged sexual assault offences, but was acquitted of three charges and the jury failed to reach a verdict on others.
He faced a retrial in May that year, but again the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
Harris was released on licence in May 2017 and became a recluse at his riverside house in Bray, Berkshire.
