U.S. military support: Nuremberg train station to become safer
More police officers, including from the U.S. Army, are to help make Nuremberg's train station safer. In terms of security, Nuremberg's station recently scored very poorly in Germany.
Nuremberg's main train station is to become safer. To this end, the city has announced a package of measures. Joint patrols by the state and federal police are to be deployed more frequently again and reinforced on weekends by the military police of the American armed forces. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is also deploying more security forces.
Round table on security situation in Nuremberg
The measures were agreed at a top-level meeting between the city of Nuremberg, the federal and state police, DB and the city's public transport authority, to which Nuremberg's Lord Mayor Marcus König (CSU) had invited due to recent significant increases in crime figures. "The figures for 2022 from the crime statistics of the Federal Police, which together with Deutsche Bahn is responsible for security at Nuremberg's main train station, prompted me to bring everyone to the table."
U.S. military also patrols the station
Because of an incident involving U.S. military personnel stationed at Grafenwoehr, the U.S. military police have offered their temporary assistance. In the incident, U.S. soldiers had injured a federal police officer after visiting a discotheque when the officer tried to mediate a dispute between them.
The press spokesman of the 7th Army Training Command Grafenwoehr, André Potzler, said at the meeting: "The members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families greatly appreciate the hospitality in the region and have enjoyed coming to Nuremberg for decades. When an incident involving U.S. military personnel occurred a few weeks ago, Brigadier General Joseph Hilbert reacted immediately. […] In consultation with German authorities, he ordered a patrol of the main train station by U.S. military police to support German security forces."
