As a Floridian, I can tell you exactly how it goes…once the insurance company decides to leave the state, they start making ridiculous demands to continue the policy. Oh, you have a roof with 50 year shingles and its only been 13 years? Sorry, there arent enough granules. So maybe you get a new roof, what choice do you have? Then they say, OK, but your electrical panel is outdated, you'll need a new one if you want to keep your insurance. So you get a new one, what choice do you have? OK, but your water heaters are too old, you'll need new ines if you want to keep your insurance, so you get new ones, ehat choice do you have? Your garage doors arent reinforced, your windows are not hurricane proof, you have no shutters, your roof has no hurricane straps, your plumbing under the sink has no shut off valves, and on and on and on…before you know it, your paying $8000.00 a year for what used to cost you $2000.00. bye, bye house, hello tent city…sorry you paid 20 years on a 30 year mortgage…
