VIDEOS show drones being hit near Moscow

One of several unverified clips depicts an apparent UAV explosion mid-air in the area west of the Russian capital

Several Russian media outlets released videos on Tuesday showing what appear to be drones being destroyed or crashing during an air raid on Moscow.

SHOT Telegram channel uploaded an unverified clip of a drone buzzing the area west of Moscow, which then exploded mid-air. The outlet added that five aircraft were downed in that area alone.

Later, SHOT released a video of what looks like debris from a drone being cordoned off by law enforcement officers in southwestern Moscow. The channel claimed that it was a drone that had crashed into a 30-floor residential building, adding that it was armed with three cumulative charges that failed to explode.

Mash Telegram channel released a video filmed in the area west of Moscow, featuring what appears to be the sound of an explosion, followed by several quieter pops.

Another unverified video published by Baza Telegram channel shows what looks like a drone crash in Moscow Region, accompanied by the sound of a loud explosion, followed by a plume of smoke rising in the distance.

The Russian Defense Ministry blamed Kiev for the attack, saying the raid involved eight drones. According to the ministry, all of the aircraft were neutralized, while three deviated from their intended targets.

On Tuesday morning, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the drone attack resulted in minor damage to several buildings, adding that no one was seriously hurt. He also noted that the authorities temporarily evacuated residents from two apartment blocks hit by the aircraft.

People who witnessed the drone attack in the southwestern part of Moscow and had been evacuated from one of the buildings said the only thing they heard was the humming of an engine, followed by the sound of glass breaking.

Moscow attacked by drones – mayor

UAVs damaged several residential buildings, prompting evacuations, Sergey Sobyanin has said

Multiple drones attacked the Russian capital on Tuesday morning, damaging several buildings, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has said.

Sobyanin ordered the evacuation of residents from two apartment blocks that were hit, according to messages posted on Telegram.

The mayor, citing data from the city medical services, said that no residents of the buildings hit by the aircraft were seriously hurt. He added that two people requested medical assistance at the scene, but no one had to be taken to the hospital.

Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov wrote on Telegram that “several drones” were shot down by air defenses as they were flying towards the city.

Telegram channel SHOT posted an unverified video of what it said was the destruction of a drone mid-air.

The attack comes after two Ukrainian drones unsuccessfully attempted to strike the Kremlin earlier this month. Moscow accused Kiev of attempting to assassinate Putin and vowed retaliation.

Kiev has denied responsibility, with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky saying, “we don’t attack Putin or Moscow.”

China rejects Pentagon meeting request

The US has been trying to arrange a face-to-face conversation between Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu

China has rejected Washington’s proposal that their respective defense chiefs meet this week, the Pentagon said on Monday. The news comes amid a renewed diplomatic spat between the two countries.

“Overnight, the PRC informed the US that they have declined our early May invitation for Secretary [Lloyd] Austin to meet with PRC Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu in Singapore,” the Pentagon said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal, referring to the People’s Republic of China.

“The Department believes strongly in the importance of maintaining open lines of military-to-military communication between Washington and Beijing to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict,” the statement read.

The WSJ cited an unnamed US defense official as saying thatChina’s dismissal was “an unusually blunt message.”

According to the report, the Pentagon had wanted the meeting to take place on the sidelines of theannual Shangri-La Dialogue security forum. Li will speak at the event as part of his trip to Singapore from May 31 to June 4, the Chinese Defense Ministry said.

The Pentagon said last week that attempts to establish contacts with their Chinese counterparts in recent months have failed.

The Financial Times reported this month that Beijing told Washington that there was“little chance” for a meeting between Li and Austinbecause of thesanctions placed on the Chinese defense minister over his alleged role in the purchase of Russian weapons. Li was appointed to his current position in March, replacing Wei Fenghe.

Last week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry cast doubt on the sincerity of Washington’s willingness to engage in dialogue while simultaneously “seeking to suppress China through all possible means” and imposing restrictions on Chinese officials and entities.

At a summit in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this month, the G7 released a joint statement with alitany of accusationsagainst China, including “economic coercion,” human rights abuses, and the inciting of tensions in the Taiwan Strait. Beijing accused the US-led group of countries of trying to impose their will on others and meddling in China’s domestic affairs.

Zelensky pledges imminent counteroffensive (he whines “soon”)KEK

The Ukrainian president’s remarks come after reports that further Western support for Ukraine depends on battlefield success

Kiev has set the dates for a counteroffensive against Russia, President Vladimir Zelensky said on Monday. Ukrainian officials have been talking about the move for several months now, withWestern media warning that failure could result in Kiev losing support from its international backers.

Speaking in a video address released on Telegram, Zelensky shared details of a military conference in which a number of senior military commanders provided reports. The meeting revolved around “not only… the supply of ammunition, not only the training of new brigades, not only tactics, but also… the timing,” according to the president.

“This is what is most important. The timing of how we will move forward. We will. The decisions have been made,” he said, without providing any details on when and where the counteroffensive will kick off.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian officials issued conflicting statements on the much-hyped counteroffensive. Last week, Mikhail Podoliak, an aide to Zelensky, stated that the push “has been going on for several days now.”

However, Kirill Budanov, who heads Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, said the counteroffensive will begin soon, adding that Kiev has gathered “the necessary minimum of weapons” required for the attack.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin warnedthat the long-planned push“will only lead to bloodshed and further escalation of the conflict,” while condemning the West’s “irresponsible” campaign to prop up Kiev with weapons.

In late March, General Mark Milley, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, voiced skepticism about Ukraine’s planned offensive, warning that Kiev would have ahard time “kicking every Russian out” of the territoriesit claims as its own.

His remarks were followed by a New York Times report last month saying that Ukraine has no guarantees of acquiring “big gains” – and should the results turn out to be underwhelming, Ukraine’s Western backersmight press Kiev into peace negotiations with Moscow.

Durham to Conservatives: Fuhgeddaboudit. 1/2

John Durham delivered the wronged Right an unmistakable punch to the gut.

Bob MaistrosMay 25, 2023

Conservatives thrilled at longtime antagonist Jake Tapper’s response on CNN to the too-long-awaited Durham report: “Devastating” for the FBI.

Right thought. Wrong target.

The report was “devastating,” all right. But for the FBI? Not so much.

FBI Director Christopher Wray hasn’t resigned, once the standard response to such scathing indictments. Unlawfully leaky sieve and former FBI Director James Comey? Still walking about. Lying Andrew McCabe? Got his pension reinstated. The bureau? Fully funded and advancing its massive, multi-gazillion-dollar new complex.

Hence we got the PR equivalent of a raspberryto Durham from the G-men (and women): “Reforms? We don’t need no stinkin’ reforms.”

The report is absolutely devastating, though . . . for conservatives. It is devastating for those who predicted the probe would reveal “the crime of the century,” per Donald Trump. It’s devastating for those who believed it would result in “many indictments,” as his Director of National Intelligence insisted. And you are surprised beyond measure if you believed, per Fox News’ Sean Hannity, that it would “Blow wide open” the “deep state.”

Rather, Durham delivered the wronged Right an unmistakable punch to the gut: fuhgeddaboudit.

You can’t touch J. Edgar’s heirs, nor their collaborators in the Biden and Obama White Houses, the Justice Department, or CIA. Nor the scumbag collection among Fusion GPS and “pee-tape” fabricators Christopher Steele, Igor Danchenko, and Charles Dolan. Especially not any of the Clintonites.

Not to mention the media, who, in a true circle of hellions, reported on outlandish investigations, with their coverage leveraged to justify further illegal intrusions.

So, yeah. That crowd conspired, concocted, connived, contrived, and yes, colluded with the best of them. They—knowingly, mind you—zagged instead of zigged in order to suppress scrutiny of Hillary & Company’s diplomatic payola and “plan” to falsely incriminate a campaign opponent.

And purposely zigged rather than zagged in hamstringing Team Trump when, the special counsel asserted, “neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion.”

But, as Roger Kimball lately expounded, conservatives knew all that—yet longed to see what Bill Barr’s hand-picked avenger would do about it, and when.

Durham’s answer: Essentially zip. Zero. Zilch. Nix. Nada. And never.

In fact, everyone is missing the report’s primary point. It was never meantto detail various offenders’ misdeeds, misconduct, and malfeasance, but to explain why the special counsel couldn’t effect justice or accountability.

The bottom line: The forces of evil can’t be stopped in this way. Not with prosecutions. Nor with guidelines. Not with reforms. Not after catching them in hand-in-the-cookie-jar lies, engaged in book-cooking and “confirmation bias”—Durham’s polite term for “partisan witch hunt.”

As has been asserted in this space, “lawfare,” and even law enforcement, only runs in one direction today. And that direction is not rightward.

Take Durham’s extended apologia on the paucity of prosecutions in his executive summary:

If . . . the outcome of the Special Counsel’s investigation leave(s) some with the impression that injustices or misconduct have gone unaddressed, it is not because the Office concluded that no such injustices or misconduct occurred.

Translation: “I caught these rogues red-handed, and wanted to come down on them like a ton of bricks mixed with fire and brimstone.”

[T]he law does not always make a person’s bad judgment . . . a crime (nor) criminalize all (political campaigns’) unseemly or unethical conduct . . . Finally, in almost all cases, the government is required to prove a person’s actual criminal intent . . . The Office’s adherence to these principles explains, in numerous instances, why conduct deserving of censure or disciplinary action did not lead the Office to seek criminal charges.

Translation: “But I’m a real prosecutor and won’t trump up imaginary offenses or massively overcharge like the January 6 hacks.”

[E]ven when prosecutors believe that they can obtain a conviction, there are some instances in which it may not be advisable to expend government time and resources on a criminal prosecution . . .

Translation: To win, our side must bring open-and-shut cases.

[J]uries can bring strongly held views to the courtroom in criminal trials involving political subject matters, and those views can, in turn, affect the likelihood of obtaining a conviction . . .

2/2

Translation: And we can’t even win open-and-shut prosecutions against these guys given D.C. jury bias. You think I’m further besmirching my record with another sure-loss case?”

[N]ot every injustice or transgression amounts to a criminal offense, and criminal prosecutors are tasked exclusively with investigating and prosecuting violations of U.S. criminal laws.

Translation, and the key point: Many transgressions chronicled ran afoul not of the law but rather five “Ps”: accepted practices, policies, protocols, propriety and principles.

Transporting us directly to Durham’s ultimate conclusion, speaking to the possibility of reforms but actually hanging over the entire current state of affairs in America:

[M]eeting (the Justice Department’s and the FBI’s) responsibilities comes down to the integrity of the people who take an oath to follow the guidelines and policies . . . designed to ensure the rule of law is upheld . . . The promulgation of additional rules and regulations . . . would likely prove to be a fruitless exercise if the FBI’s guiding principles of ‘Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity’ are not ingrained in the hearts and minds of those sworn to meet the FBI’s mission of ‘Protect[ing] the American People and Uphold[ing] the Constitution of the United States.’

Durham’s efforts fell with a thud because the entire cohort of progressives and deep state fellow-travelers have tossed aside, and trampled underfoot, all five “Ps.”

Those concepts were established and once upheld to constrain government’s fearsome might and reach. This is why they are lodestars for conservatives but roadkill for progressives on their scorched-earth, Shermanesque march to complete woke control of the levers of power.

Durham’s report thus further illustrates the reality this correspondent recently reflected upon:“[A]ll meaningful avenues to counter mendacious, monolithic misrule by out-of-touch elites remain stubbornly blocked.”

Including not just a weaponized justice system but also the executive branch, corporate America, the culture, Congress, and even elections.

And by the way, on the last: who can say that, having gotten away with conspiring an effective coup against a sitting president despite an in-depth, bare-all federal investigation, that “cabal” didn’t complete the act by purloining the 2020 vote, which wasn’t so probed?

Want to stop it all from happening again, within the current system—and current configuration of America?

To repeat: fuhgeddaboudit.
