I grew up on a commercial fishing vessel and this was something my father had done when we were caught in a very very dangerous storm. He taught us all to do this IF we ourselfs were ever caught in a storm.

The only way out alive is to steer straight into the waves and hit them dead on… as to not to roll the boat over and capsize.
