That's true, but some of the oldest clubs also allow British-made motorcycles as well. This wasn't really an issue for a long time because all the British manufacturers went out of business. When Triumph motorcycles returned to the USA, circa 1998, there was some salt flowing because a retired club President declared them "club legal" when they looked more like a Japanese bike than old school British.
